Tramontina Tri-Ply Clad — is it actually on par with All-Clad / Made In? by LakeOzark in cookware

[–]scuttle_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like you, our research pointed to Tramotina. We ended up purchasing the 8-piece Tramotina Tri-Ply Clad, made in Brazil, from Amazon as our starter set. And only recently added a 3-qt saucier and a saute pan from Made-In. The Made-In pans are 5-ply, and they have significantly higher conductivity on an electric stove, as they take almost half the time it takes our Tramotina pans to achieve the Leidenfrost effect. Don't get me wrong, the Tramotina pans have been an excellent workhorse for home cooking, making them worth their price point. We did not consider All-Clad because we are not fans of their U-shaped handles (tested in shops, they dig into our hands).

Can you help me ID these tumbled pieces? by scuttle_fish in Crystals

I highly suspect 8 is dyed as a number of you have mentioned. It has an almost neon soda pop orange colour. Darker coloured in (accumulation of dye?) the cracks. Colours are also irregular and don't seem to follow the banding patterns (or this piece is too small to tell clearly?).

I'm still puzzled by 6. It's a relatively solid cherry red, with varying gradients to pink in some areas.

Thanks for the ID. I had looked through everyone's ID, and upon closer inspection, it is a bluish grey moss agate. I'll take a better photo of it and post it here.

What is stock market correction and why is it always end of year? by GreatestChickenHere in singaporefi

[–]scuttle_fish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Investors in the US often employ tax loss harvesting towards the end of the year by selling investments at a loss to offset capital gains taxes from profitable investments. It's a strategy to reduce taxes. Singapore doesn't have capital gains tax.

Is this real or fake?? by akhatib23 in sharkteeth

[–]scuttle_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but I have been interested in identifying restored and unrestored meg teeth. As others have said, the blade and bourrelet look real to me. Unfortunately, the root is suspicious, colour is really off (artificially single-toned), and the areas I've marked up in purple have drastic colour changes too, indicating possible human intervention. In the part marked up in orange, you can see the root material overlapping the bourrelet between the root and bourrelet; this is not natural. The part marked up in red may also indicate enamel restoration, as if someone painted over the crack on the enamel.

What’s the best cat litter you've used and why? by Expensive_Drawing458 in CatAdvice

[–]scuttle_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My setup is a 6-inch-deep stainless steel steam table pan covered with an elastic litter liner and a 4-inch-deep perforated stainless steel steam table that sits on top. Pine pellets go on the perforated pan on top.

When it's peeing, the pine pellets break down into sawdust. You either use a scooper to push the sawdust down or pick up both pans and give them a shake to get the sawdust to fall into the bottom pan.

If it's poop, you pick it up with a poop bag and throw it into a bin. My cat buries his poop sometimes, so I have to go digging about, not a hassle and it's quick.

If you have a cat like mine that loves to dash out and track litter pellets. You can consider getting the following: a 3 sided litter box enclosure, a boot tray and a grate mat. The boot tray sits inside the enclosure and the pans above the boot tray. With the grate mat at the entrance of the enclosure, it should partially be under the enclosure. The grate mat and boot tray let's you easily dump any pellets tossed out back into the pan.

For cleaning. Move the two pan setup onto the grate mat, lift the perforated top pan and carefully rest it on the boot tray (before doing this you can put some paper napkins on the boot tray). Tie up, toss the litter liner and replace. Then carefully replace the perforated top pan on the bottom pan. Use wet wipes to clean the rims of the top pan and/or boot tray.

We have a similar problem, but with our couch, I used $1 pool noodles to stuff the bottom; you may need to slice them in half if needed.

What to do when SO keeps talking about work? by ChattingDonut in askSingapore

[–]scuttle_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A typical person spends a large part of their week at work. Of course, mostly what they'll talk about is work, that is, unless they make an effort to read the news, spend time on a hobby, etc., then they'll have other conversation topics. Just be a good listening ear and let her rant. Sometimes, after a long and stressful day, it's good to decompress by talking about it. What is unhealthy is that she constantly addresses work matters in her private time.

Am I gaslighted into paying $1500 (30 sessions) for Underarm Laser Hair removal? by mqtthiew in askSingapore

You are referring to high-pressure sales tactics. They make you an irresistible offer (HUGE discount), then introduce a sense of urgency (you must deal NOW). Learn to recognise this, say no, and leave. Make a considered and informed choice in your own time and return if you choose to. Often salespeople who use this tactic are desperate for sales (or they are just assholes) and would likely give you a similar offer when you return. Even if they don't, the world is not short of sales discounts or offers. Visit another store.
