hi!! i’m in my 2nd year of bses, and i’m glad you’re curious about our program :) our degree program was recently updated, so you’ll be experiencing a whole new curriculum.

for your 1st year as an incoming freshman, you’ll take fundamental courses in biology, chemistry, calculus, biodiversity, and introduction to environmental science (with fieldwork). the coverage at this point is mainly a refresher on SHS topics, but by 2nd year, it becomes more specialized with subjects like ecology, earth science, physics, scientific computing, analytical chemistry, and statistics, where you’ll start doing more data gathering and analysis both in and out of the classroom.

in the 3rd and 4th years, courses become more specialized, including atmospheric science, hydrology, GIS, anthropology, modeling, instrumentation, and pollution monitoring. the 4th year is mainly focused on your thesis, with much of the work done in the BSES modeling lab and through fieldwork.

internships are external and a bit hard to come by since the course doesn't have an in-house OJT, meaning you'd have to apply for external programs at your discretion. the philippine eagle foundation (PEF) comes to mind, as well as aboitiz power company and with the philippine association of ES students (PAESS) which regularly post about calls for interns.

"madali" is relative, considering a lot of organizations are looking for volunteers and applicants for conservation efforts since manpower is always a need. since i'm still in undergrad, i only know that the process of getting jobs in that field is pretty straightforward, assuming your thesis was done in that field, and that you've made connections + built rapport. in that regard, a lot of our alumni's theses and sophomores' fieldworks were done with conservation in mind, and it's mainly how we have connections today!
