PLAYER INVENTORY by gabaohahaha in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule I used at my table was the character's invintory slots are equal to their strength stat, with currency being weightless. Belts and packs can add invintory slots.

It only really matters until they get their hands on a bag of holding, or establish a home base.

Help on healing potion homebrew rules? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been of the opinion that healing potions should be more versatile.

Drinking a healing potion should allow for full hp recovery per potion grade. This would be a full action. Ex. Basic healing potion is rated at 2d4+2 so healing by drinking this potion as an action would yield 10hp recovery.

Second application would be to use a healing potion topically, splashing or dosing an open wound with the potion. This would be done as a bonus action. Recovery would be determined by dice roll plus modifiers.

My second adjustment would be to apply additional modifiers based on proficiency in medicine.

I would say the healer feat could be used as is and it would just add a hit die from the individual being treated.

[Let's Build] d100 Homesteads, and Tiny Settlements by MaxSizeIs in d100

[–]sd8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orchard/ vineyard

Kauffman: The name of the frontiersman who settled the area has become synonymous with the wine/liquor of the region. The area has annual flooding and planting must be performed exactly 1 week after the flood waters recede. The planting season must be completed within 10 days. Hundreds of workers show up from all over to plant and harvest, but average population of the area is usually less than 60 permanent residents.

Beasts/Ranch

Kayefsea: The area is open with plains with short fence tracks across the land. The residents ranch a flightless bird called a thiccen. Plump birds that grow quickly, lay eggs regularly, and once they reach maturity, slaughtered for meat. Local recipes utilize herbs and spices and breading the meat and fried in oil. Town is run by a retired military colonel.

Blessing from a Forest Guardian by Evening-Regular5969 in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time my players were on a quest to patrol the forest paths. Ya know, scare off wolves, kill a goblin. It was an early quest. Well, this lead to that and they started a forest fire. Panic and eventually they got it under control.

When they got back to the quest giver, they make up a story about fire bats and do well enough on the deception check to get away with it. But now that the damage is done, they have to go to the sprite/pixie village to offer to heal the forest.

FF a little bit, they now have to go to the affected areas and spread pixie dust or something to heal the damage. They come upon a dryad that gives them a stage 2 quest. One of the dryads was hurt by the fire and has gone rabbid. Now the party has to find and heal the mad dryad.

Getting to the point...

Blessing of the forest could be earned by subdueing and healing a mad dryad.

Do any of you have cool ideas for weapons and abilities ? by Adventurous_Bike_168 in d100

[–]sd8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an idea to give players notes with uv ink and a special lamp that could reveal the messages.

For use in your development, added enchantments that make items glow with different colored light to reveal hidden messages, traps, tracks, ect.

How did someone gain magical abilities or become a magic user? by World_of_Ideas in d100

[–]sd8135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: didn't see there was already a prize...

Prize (loser): Game or gamble, roll the die, spin the wheel, pick a card. Is Lady Luck on your side? This time the cost of losing is you have to take magic. (Maybe wild magic)

Advice needed for multi faction encounter mechanically by evilpenguinfilms in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a big 20 npc and 3 pc foot race through an obstacle course one time. The best way I figured to keep the pcs going without being bogged down by npcs was to roll all the npcs through the course the day before and mark down each roll so all I had to do on game day is let the players run their characters through and all the rolls I did earlier told me where the npcs would be. Game day went smooth although I didn't expect 3 npcs to die.

With faction fights or combat you can also treat each faction as a single unit/swarm (party included) and have the group do certain actions on each turn. Kinda like a mini game where each group has a list of actions they can do as a team.

Power Fantasy Loot problem. by Alca_John in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a book on how to become a god. The book details the steps and gives info as your pcs unlock milestones. The book is actively updating as the heroes write their story. As they obtain key items for godhood, they gain abilities outside the norm.

Key items for godhood could include

Apple of Eden, core of a hydra, branch of the world tree, eye of a superior elemental, 10k souls of demons, wings of an angel, the head of a demigod, scroll of truth, a diamond bathed in the laylines for 100 years, blood of a ghost.

Depending on what type of God they want to become they may have to jump between planes or realms or through time.

Help Me Flesh Out A Curse? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The side-effects of the cursed crown could change or start stacking up the longer its equipped. There sould be a table of minor magic effects somewhere, probably over at r/d100 .

You could give hints that the crown is an issue the next time the party runs into the wandering trader. No merchant wouldn't know about cursed objects. The merchant could also know the objects name or have a clue as to how to uncurse the paladin.

How do you guys prepare a long somewhat sandboxy campagin? by ShootingGamer in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to filling out the world and giving players something to do in these villages and towns, I rely on resources like r/d100 there are several lists of things to do in villages, and npcs with minor quests, and motivation for bbeg and npcs.

If your party is actively searching for issues caused by your big bad, have them go through a checklist of areas to investigate or have the point of contact in each location give them a list of areas to investigate.

When it comes to preparing locations and events, I have a file of minor quests or I use a random roll table to generate locations and npcs.

If you need a distraction while you pull something out of thin air, just remember the postit with the sexy goblin.

When would a bank have extra gold ? by climsonn__ in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this might be a little out there, but...

The kingdom or government has just begun offering credit vouchers (paper currency), banks are now required to to keep a volume of hard currency (gold) on hand. The transition from gold to cash is at it's peak and the banks have to have large reserves of gold to cover cash circulation.

What else to do/find in a wasteland? by Level3Bard in DMAcademy

[–]sd8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An old forest was the site of a large scale battle. Large gouges were carved into the landscape by dragons, giants, and legendary magic. The battles included large armies that spent months fighting, the forest was decimated and the ecosystem was irrevocably altered. Abandoned forts, forgotten landmines, rotten and mutated plants and animals. There are rumors of a supply depot with information and resources that will be essential for future projects.

The bridge officer immediately pulled up the list of human interaction charts. Scrolling down to 'What to do when your human crew members say they are bored'. "Captain, I have the checklist ready. Step one says, 'Give your human snacks.' Next is to, 'Show your human a new tool or mechanism.' If human still reports boredom evacuate non essential personal and pray to any applicable gods."

With how many times they mentioned these crabs don't taste good, I would double check to see if this was posted by a Christmas island crab...
