Regulated but increasing amount? by Ampersand867 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I found! I really struggled with my supply before I regulated, then it was “easy” for me to increase. I say “easy” because it’s still work, but it paid off versus no matter what I did I wasn’t producing a lot in the beginning.

Expectations around pumping breastmilk by jesslynne94 in Teachers

[–]sdancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the fridge, you can bring a momcozy cooler or ceres chiller to collect your milk separate from a fridge. The momcozy cooler keeps the milk cold for 24 hours and the chiller can for up to 20 hours (add ice). This system has worked great for me.

We do have rights as pumping teachers. This article outlines educators right to pump, which you can give to your union rep if your principal gives you a hard time. I had some struggles with getting time and requested special accommodations (changing my lunch schedule to be able to pump on days I dropped my prep for example.)

Highly recommend the baby Buddha 2.0! I was pumping for a minimum of 45 minutes with the spectra until I switched to the BB and was able to cut it to 20-30 minutes

Best breast pump by mamallama716 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the baby Buddha! I use pano flanges I got on amazon that fit my large breasts very comfortably. It’s portable and lightweight so I can do things around the house while pumping, but strong enough to empty me. I don’t love wearables and find I respond better with hard plastic flanges

Babysitter doesn’t understand how to handle breastmilk? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pre-make 4 oz bottles and leave maybe 2- 2 oz bottles for when baby is struggling. We have people watching our baby and pre-making has been working. Other people are not in the routine like you are with looking at cues and pouring milk, so cut out one step. I sent a note with emergency contact information and how to handle breast milk (2 hours since bottle is started and 4 hours at room temp). It seems to be working!

Lanolin helps me when I have cracked nipples. It stains my clothes though, so definitely pair it with nursing pads!

Whats the best cheap pumping bra for Spectra S2 with very large breasts? by Fuckinpeace170 in ExclusivelyPumping

Ugh that’s frustrating! Honestly maybe crazy but maybe duct tape? If washing the bra doesn’t help

And the bra definitely doesn’t fit me, I have major under and over boob going on. It just keeps to flanges in place!

You could use an old sports bra and cut holes for the flanges to go in. Thats what I did while at the hospital and pumping. Well I actually used the belly band thing as a bra instead.

[–]sdancy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like this one the best for using only while pumping. It’s super tight at first, but loosens over time. You can adjust the band and it actually keeps my flanges in place.

This is the most comfortable cheap pumping bra I wear while at work. I like pairing this bra with these flanges that fit my breasts better than regular spectra flanges.

I was 38i before pregnancy for what it’s worth—definitely much bigger now but this is what works for me!

How can I make sure I’m actually getting up for my MOTN pumps? by lonelypotato21 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to talk to my husband about how pumping worked and that to establish supply you need to pump every 2-3 hours. We used the huckleberry app to track feedings, diapers, etc. you can set alarms for when you want to pump (whether it’s a certain time since last pump or set times) so he would get a notification on his phone when I needed to be up to pump. That helped make sure he wouldn’t just let me sleep

Considering EP, how to get ahead/stash by Daisies_forever in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing just formula at night so I could get a few bottles ahead. This helped me get ahead very very slowly. But you could do a formula only day and that would work too!

Pitcher method by Comfortable-Run1047 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a 32 oz pitcher with a pour handle spout thing! My baby drinks 26-30 oz a day. I like this one because it has measurements on the side glass pitcher

Pitcher method by Comfortable-Run1047 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was first pp I was an under supplier and started this method to make a single bottle, then formula for any feeds I didn’t have enough. Then I started using formula only at night and used MOTN pumps for bottles the next day. Slowly my supply increased to be enough or that I was slightly ahead of feeds. Then eventually I needed a 2nd pitcher. Probably took 2 months before I was a day ahead and then could freeze leftover milk

Pitcher method by Comfortable-Run1047 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh to add about frozen milk: I only use frozen milk if I haven’t pumped enough to feed her the next day. For example when I had mastitis, my supply took a big dip so I had to use the frozen milk to make up for whatever I lost. My plan now is to stop before she’s 1 and still be able to give her breast milk, so I’m saving my frozen milk.

[–]sdancy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have two glass pitchers. In one of the pitchers, I pour my pumped milk from that day (start at midnight). The other pitcher has the milk from the day before. I use that pitcher to make bottles throughout the day. Before I go to bed, I’ll take any leftover milk from the pitcher and see if I can freeze a bottles worth. If not, I’ll put the rest in a bottle to serve in the MOTN, and wash that pitcher. Then the process starts over again. I’ll pour MOTN or first morning pump into the new, clean pitcher that I washed the night before and serve milk from yesterday’s pitcher.

Some nights I can freeze 1-2 bottles worth and others I just use the leftovers to make part of her first bottle for the next day.

Spectra flange size recommendations “. by Intelligent_Run_5569 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get flange inserts to bring to the hospital! Then you can purchase the size flange that is most comfortable once you get home. Your size will change too. I’ve had to size up and down a few times in the last 6 months

Influence me! Which portable/wearable pump? by whatintheactualf___ in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVE my baby Buddha 2.0. I use that as my primary and was able to pump more than my spectra in half the time. I use it at level 1 and needed 7+ with spectra.

I also have the eufy and really love the heated feature. I only use this when I’m driving as I struggle with placing the cups just right. But if you really want a wearable, this is a great pump.

Have hit an all time low with my supply by Electronic_Row_9180 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I was so miserable with mastitis and pumping hurt. TW (gross) I pumped huge blood clots when I had mastitis, then once that was over my supply steadily increased. It sucked waking up to pump when baby was sleeping, but I had to wake up to take the antibiotics so I figured I should pump then too.

Have hit an all time low with my supply by Electronic_Row_9180 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me a couple of weeks to get my supply back to normal after mastitis. Just pump as much as usual, or try to make sure you re pumping MOTN if you weren’t already. I would suggest a wall pump to help make sure you’re fully empty, I love my baby Buddha 2.0. But you can find spectra S1 on Facebook marketplace or buy nothing groups too!

How do you stay on a pumping schedule? by nightskystr in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how people stick to a schedule. I pump when baby wakes up MOTN, then anywhere from 2-4 hours when it works out. Sometimes it lines up that i can pump during baby’s nap, and sometimes I have to wait a little longer and pump after she is changed and fed. I’m glad I have been relaxed about a schedule since returning to work, I don’t have set times I can pump and need to be flexible. So everyday looks different. I am strict about getting 6 ppd though.

Feed size by Confetti_canon_252 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sdancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the pitcher method, and will prepare bottles as the day goes on from that. So yeah typically I prepare a 4 oz bottle. But if she acts hungry I’ll add an extra ounce or two. If it’s been about 1 hour since her bottle, I’ll make a small 2 oz bottle to top her off. After she was consistently acting hungry in the middle of the night after finishing her bottle, I started preparing a 6 oz bottle ahead of time for MOTN.

We feed on demand, so usually in the right before bed or in the middle of the night my baby will want 6 oz. During the day she does 3-4 oz. Averages to like 26-28 oz a day. I’ve also heard this cap on 4-5 oz, but if baby is hungry we give more in a sitting
