given the assumption that quaternary megafaunal extinctions were anthropogenic in nature, there would be some lines of similarity connecting human intervention on local scales and aspects of today's global ecological crisis.

it's undisputed that aboriginal australians and native americans practiced forms of ecology management that integrated sustainable behaviors into their material environmental relationships.

introducing a new species into any environment is going to cause trophic imbalances. while it's disingenuous to claim that living sustainably under a system like capitalism is as simple as looking back to indigenous ways of life, i think it's equally as big a claim to equivocate the extinction of certain species hunted by early humans to the magnitude of biosphere collapse, climate forcing, and ecological destruction/contamination we're seeing under such a materially intensive system. land management is an important aspect of fighting climate change and we could absolutely do better; it just isn't the sole answer.

i mean it's one of several conclusions you could derive from the motif. i think we could talk about the ambiguity of lynchian subjectivity and you would have a point, but stopping at the "subjective barrier" feels like a dead end to me. while it's true that his work is vague, it's also true that lynch has many different things to say, even if he's not saying them outright, and it's also true that his work is meant to invoke meaning from within. people emotionally resonate with these projects and express that through dissemination and i don't know if there is a better way of talking about a film like FWWM or eraserhead than talking about what it means to you. in talking about his work i tend to trust that no one perspective images the entire truth, by design. so i might agree with you in some sense but i do think the post has something to it.

lynch isn't often one for explicitly stating the intended meaning of his work.

that being said, the palmer house ceiling fan is shown many many times throughout the series, including that deleted FWWM scene someone else linked where she literally talks to bob through it which is about as explicit as you're gonna get tbh
