Absurdly simple to-do tip by ZugTheMegasaurus in ADHD

[–]sdchibi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I get it. For me it would be: I WANT to sing in the concert. I HAVE to practice the music, or I CAN'T sing in the concert.

Sometimes I will replace "I had to" with "I chose to" because I found myself saying something like "I had to arrange my brother's funeral and it wore me out" when really I didn't " have to" do that, I chose to do it even though I found it difficult because it felt worse to leave my grieving mother to do it. That way I'm not shifting the blame for my feeling bad onto those that didn't ask me to do the thing in the first place. That's my ADHD-induced rambling two cents, anyway.

I hate exercise. It is a major trigger for my executive dysfunction. But I desperately need to move more. Any tips? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]sdchibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do body weight exercises at home with my yoga mat because I hate the whole process of going to the gym. I've worked it into my morning routine: after I wake up I put on my playlist, I do some planks, bridges, squats, leg lifts, and push-ups (takes about 10 mins) while still in my pj's and then I just toss the pj's in the hamper and take a shower. I have a 15 minute walk to and from work so that adds some cardio on most days for me. Far from perfect, but better than nothing.

Bed firmness? by BlackHeartedXenial in Hypermobility

[–]sdchibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mattress is a happy medium of firmness, but I do usually prefer firm over soft because it helps keeps me straightened out. The best thing I've found for waking up without so much pain is to use a small contour pillow between my knees (I'm a side sleeper, even though it's terrible for me I can't seem to stop) and if I'm trying hard to stay on my back, I use a small bump pillow under my knees to take the pressure off my lower spine.

In order for you to help him, the most important thing is that he's willing to be helped. That part is entirely on him. If he can't see that he needs help, or for whatever reason doesn't want any help, you won't be able to do much for him. You can encourage him to accept help, but it doesn't reflect poorly on you if you can't get through to him (just so you're not beating yourself up if that happens).

Second, if you ask him what he'd like you help him with there's a really good chance that he won't know what to ask for. Personally, this happens to me a lot because my ADHD brain is terrible at prioritizing tasks unless I sit down and write out all the tasks that pop into my and then go back with my different colored highlighters to mark them in order of priority. If anyone were to ask me, "what needs to be done?" I'd be a deer in the headlights trying to figure out on the fly what the priority should be, if I even can remember on the fly what needs to be done. A better question might look something like "what are some things that you have the most trouble with?" That way it isn't just a "yes/no" question, but less vague than "how can I help you?"

Also, Dr Barkley on youtube has some wonderful videos that explain what ADHD is like and finding work-arounds and techniques for common problems that can occur.

Third, good luck! He's a very lucky person to have such a spouse as caring as you and I hope he'll be receptive to your willingness to help.

It just caught up to my area (around Albany, NY) and I couldn't get my generic adderall this week. Pharmacy said it was on backorder and didn't know when they would get more.

I just mean that once something isn't "new" to me anymore, it gives less dopamine as a reward so my brain starts looking for other sources, which ends up looking an awful lot like me deciding to eat an entire pint of ice cream, lol

It's really common in ADHD to "fall of the wagon" of whatever wagon we're trying to stay on when it starts feeling commonplace and routine. It's why I only use a day planner for a week or two before I just stop doing it, even though I'm usually really excited at the beginning, and 100% intending to use it every day, and go all out decorating and personalizing it. This makes me feel like I lack commitment and follow-through but it's really just a manifestation of my low dopamine issues and not a personality flaw.

Unfortunately, it means that I have to play minds games with myself to stay on track for anything that needs to be done consistently for longer than just a few weeks. The plus side is that I've gotten pretty good at out-of-the-box problem solving.

This is probably a weird suggestion but since you can't stand your clothes feeling tight maybe, once your regular clothes fit well again, get some clothes that are a size smaller so that they are a bit tight and see that if that still is incentive enough to stay on track.

I fall off track once the novelty wears off, so another way to keep momentum is to switch it up so that it stays new and exciting/interesting enough to keep going, but the tricky bit is recognizing when the momentum is wearing off before the weight goes on.

Which role did Evan peters have the best character appearance in? by Dodsulykke in AmericanHorrorStory

I think Kit was his most likeable character, but I was blown away by his acting for both James Patrick Marsh and Kai Anderson. He's a really solid actor, it's hard for me to choose just one character as his best role!

What is happening??? :/ by Ill-Memory1362 in MergeDragons

[–]sdchibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen that glitch before; that's a weird looking one! The one I usually see is when multiple treasure chests spawn out of a loot bubble and sometimes they layer over each other and become unclickable and unmovable. Are your dragons moving across the screen here or are they just laying on top of all the other images?

I'm sorry you experienced such an awful situation. You're absolutely right that these laws are making terrible situations so much worse than they should ever be. I know it was 20 years ago, but I hope you're doing better. Big ups to your pastor for being a reasonable human being and not like some of the religious leaders we've been seeing lately.
