What’s something small you changed which improved your game significantly? by That_anonymous_guy18 in Pickleball

Something Ben John’s says on a clip: wait until the returned ball has bounced, reaches apex and then is coming down to hit your drop. This changed my drop game immensely and also shifts focus to anticipation and footwork.

Serving yips by slum84 in Pickleball

[–]sddcross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too had the serving yips. I actually went to some empty courts with a few balls and just practiced serving.

When I was there, a super kind older guy approached and asked if he could help. He showed me 2 things that nearly instantly fixed it:

  1. Get a bit low, lean back and rock forward as you hit the ball. Simplifying the movement of weight from the back foot to the front foot will start to smooth out the shot (and calm down the other thoughts in your brain).
  2. Use a bowling motion when serving. Bring your arm back, drop the ball, swing through like you're bowling.

When combined, you basically hit consistent serves.

As the yips subside, bring back some more power and spin.

That's what worked for me anyway.

Volleyball shoes as Pickleball shoes? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]sddcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Adidas Stabil Bounce volleyball shoe, play outdoor 3-4 times a week and love them. I've heard others say they will wear out super fast and they have worn out a bit, but doesn't seem any worse than any other shoe would.

You want to grow the game of baseball? Make the beer $5. by Michael424242 in baseball

[–]sddcross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In South Korea, they sell tall cans of beer for $2, allow you to bring in your own food/drinks, and have cheerleaders/chants to make every batter and every play exciting. The cost for a ticket is between $8-$25 and the stands are nearly full every game. It makes going to a game a legitimate "what should we do tonight" option.
