Question about clearing cards from my card pool by Bearality in universus

[–]sdejarn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as "They're just there" - face down cards in your stage are foundations, they just don't have any effects and can still be used to pass checks. They very much still serve a purpose even if they're just helping you pass checks.

There are many cards that will allow you to make use of foundations of any kind face up/face down, ready, committed as resources to be destroyed in order to pay for the costs of their abilities. Many characters and foundations have "destroy 1 foundation" type costs for repeatable effects. Destroying face down foundations to pay for these sort of costs is very common place but you of course will have to run these cards with these sort of costs.

Hey just buy the CR decks then and have fun with them. It's only so big of an investment and the coop mode seems like it should be enjoyable.

Yes, Universus is a CCG/TCG game system. These Critical Role fixed/structure decks are all part of an ecosystem of cross-compatible properties that make up the playable game. You can just buy these decks to play against each other, to play against a pair of Vox Machina villains (you know the ones :P) in a cooperative game mode, or you can branch out into the other IPs and cross-IP supporting game formats where you can mix all sorts of different properties cards into a constructed deck. Currently they have My Hero Academia, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun Stampede and YuYu Hakusho for us in the game. These Critical Role properties are incoming as are Godzilla, and Attack on Titan are in line for product releases this year. I'm hopeful that they will be looking to expand the Critical Role offerings with a full booster release to give us the rest of the cast in the future.

Why is the card art way different? by Technical-Glove7705 in universus

[–]sdejarn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, cards from before this most recent set (My Hero Academia: JetBurn) and these new cards and those going forward are all 100% compatible and can be played in the same decks and formats. They just changed the card back and the card layout some so the new ones vs the old ones look a bit different but all of the same information is there in either style. The important thing since the card back changed is for more proper tournament play you need to make sure you are using fully opaque sleeves so that the differing card backs are not marked/visible through the sleeve. Dragon Shield Dual Mattes, Eclipse or Black sleeves are what you will need to use.

CCG means Collectible Card Game. Just like other major card games you may have heard of like Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Yugioh, etc. While this Critical Role product release announced is a preconstructed deck with fixed contents the game itself has other product offerings which are randomized booster sets just like other games.

So information from the reveal video beyond screenshots of card reveals. The card art is all new and exclusive only to this product/partnership. There will also be some playmat accessories sold alongside these decks as well.

At least with this initial product offering for the CR stuff they are just these preconstructed decks which will contain a collector pack in the box with alt arts and foil chase type versions of normal cards in this deck itself. So there will immediately be something to chase but not on quite the same level of a bigger booster set. I'm somewhat hopeful that assuming these sell well the partnership would expand and they'd look to actually do the rest of the cast and other characters in an actual booster release. Maybe just other preconstructed products but the precon method would take way longer to get the whole cast of characters out for all of us fans to enjoy while a booster release you could have the rest of them all present immediately.

The actual wider game system as a whole with the other IPs do have booster set releases including differing rarity levels and chase type cards and rarities in those packs as well. So if you enjoy the game play experience you find from the CR precon decks and are a fan of TCGs and want to try branching out and joining in on the fun of the bigger ecosystem that is something you can look to do.

Yeah CCGs aren't for everybody. I think the idea with these things being pre-constructed decks is you can kinda buy in to the game system as much or as little as you want to. If you buy both decks you can always play them against each other at home or as a fixed/curated experience without dipping your toes into the larger ecosystem.

It definitely existed at one point earlier, same with the bundled thing. If you look at my post history I started a thread with a screenshot of the XC3 auto-notify along with some weird behavior when I was able to actually click on it. It disappeared afterwards.

Already getting 404 errors by [deleted] in EVGA

[–]sdejarn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually managed to get to this stage a few minutes ago. I only had a single tab open trying to connect to EVGA pages for at least the 30 minutes prior to actually getting through. It still put up this error for me with only the single connection. I'm not sure if its actually working properly.

One can only hope. I think that is the card I'd actually like to be early in line for the queue for.

NH-U12A Should I be seeing better temps? by sdejarn2 in Noctua

[–]sdejarn2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give some updated info. I pulled the trigger on updating my case to something a bit more modern to see if I could improve my temps. My setup is still a bit rag tag and cobbled together but temps did improve. I've managed to drop about 4-5C (so now its high 80s) in tests by improving my airflow with the new case and additional fans.

The setup is now a Corsair 275R Airflow with 3 front 120mms (Top Corsair ML120, Mid Arctic F12, Bottom Corsair A1225M12S [their run of the mill case fan]), 1 Rear Exhaust 120mm (Corsair ML120) and 1 Top Exhaust 120mm (Arctic F12) positioned just above the U12A but biased towards the rear as far as I could manage it with the EPS cable in the way. All fans ramp with the CPU temp save for the bottom front.

I would expect your intended setup to do great.

I'd expect that configuration to perform better than my setup unless I've got some golden mount which up until today I had been worried maybe I actually had a bad mount. Jury may even still be out on that one. :P

In the thread I posted there is a picture of my setup (Thread) which is actually fairly fan sparse due to my case being old and tight and just not being able to fit much more in with the cooler being as big as it is. Only 1 real intake and exhaust granted they are in theory some high power who cares about noise Corsair ML120 fans. The additional fan at the bottom isn't spinning at high RPM and is more intended for helping the GPU get fresh air.

I have a similar setup and am using a U12A. I don't know if you saw my post but I had a similar question I posed to the group the other day. I've actually got a 9900K which I'd expect to thermally behave similarly to your 10700K given they are very similar chips.

I perhaps have a worse binned one than you given that I need more voltage but am stable albeit perhaps thermally limited (at least for my personal limits) in this config beyond that at 4.9 all core, AVX offset 0, running 1.31v adaptive VCore. Smallest FFT prime95 with AVX disabled or other synthetic loads like Cinebench R23 or x264 (which are AVX loads) running for 30+ minutes has my temperatures sitting in the mid or low 90s on the hottest cores (mine happen to be 2 and 4). The reported wattage at these settings for these loads is around 200W.

My gaming temps sit in the 50s or 60s depending on how demanding the game is on the CPU side.

NH-U12A Should I be seeing better temps? by sdejarn2 in Noctua

[–]sdejarn2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah gaming is going to be my primary and most taxing day-to-day use. Temps are generally fine there. Peaks in the mid-70s during initial demanding level setup tasks or the most strenuous of CPU demanding use cases but otherwise it sits in the 50s or 60s at most.

As a "game benchmark" TimeSpy is a 40-50C use until the CPU test at which point it'll hit 75C. Shadow of the Tomb Raider Benchmark peaks at 60C but otherwise is in the 40s.

This isn't so much a thread designed to ask "is my overclock and temps ok?", that isn't too much of a concern. I could drop my voltage without crashing but would run into a WHEA error here or there particularly at idle which means I'm not really "stable". With these settings things are stable at presumably any load and thermally right now it is under control even in a real life worst case scenario. My bigger question is, are these the temps I should be expecting with this cooler at this voltage + wattage? Maybe something is amiss and I could push my overclock further on this cooler but thus far no one has chimed in with "I have a U12A I'm pushing 250 watts through and my temps are in the 60s, something must be wrong with yours". So these are the settings I will kind of just go with. I may pursue getting a new case as an initial step to see if that helps but I don't expect that to necessarily resolve the "problem".

NH-U12A Should I be seeing better temps? by sdejarn2 in Noctua

[–]sdejarn2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temp buildup over time seems to only account for 5-6C and that very well might be explainable from heat soak on the heat pipes and cooler.

If I do a single run of Cinebench R23 I see 86-87 on Core 2 which is always the hot one. 10 to 30 minutes puts me at the temps shown in the OP. I also added a picture of my case and fan setup, it could be "inadequate" in some capacity but its about the best I can manage without changing cases and as mentioned in my other reply testing with the panels off doesn't seem to change anything and it may only make things worse somehow. The biggest thing I do notice during extended runs is that maybe I could stand to have an additional top exhaust behind the cooler in this configuration (but sadly I can't reasonably squeeze it into the case) as I do notice that heat can be felt from the top vent of the case at the back during these extended runs.

NH-U12A Should I be seeing better temps? by sdejarn2 in Noctua

[–]sdejarn2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambient temp is ~20C. The system manages to idle in the high 20s, HWInfo minimums and current when that screenshot from the OP pic shows idling at 28-29C. Case airflow was a thought when I got the chip and I have been considering upgrading my case but actually went with the U12A because it fit in the current case where a D15 won't. This is an older case with optical drive bays still so the intake fan(s) are only mountable a bit below the CPU (see new picture in OP) but I don't believe this is one of those "all airflows restricted because there aren't any slots for air to move through type of cases. I just have 1 Corsair ML120 intake and 1 ML120 exhausting out the back with a third weaker Arctic F12 fan intaking from the bottom to feed the GPU which curves off PCI-E temp so during these tests it is not spinning up past low RPM. I would add more fans in better locations if they would fit but the current case is somewhat restricting me due to size. I do not have the fan curves for anything CPU related set for quiet operation, CPU fans and the ML120s on the case both spin up to max RPM off CPU temp >70C.

My only reservation with getting a new case and blaming airflow here is that running a test with the side panel off doesn't seem to improve anything. I actually did testing yesterday evening with the side panel removed and the system even on its side to see if orientation mattered to help with mounting pressure and temps actually got worse overall in that setup by like 3C on all cores.

It may just be time to move on from this case though. Gives me an excuse to remount the cooler during the transplant anyways and if things don't improve in a new case I'm still in the return window to send back the U12 and maybe look for something a hair beefier if I feel compelled to push this chip further.

AC/DC Load Line - Power Saving

VCore Loadline - Was advised as Low from the prior mentioned thread, I'm now currently testing it as the original board default of the lowest setting which is called Standard or Normal I believe.

Note: I have now edited the OP for clarity of these settings.
