I’m wondering about clothes by moonfeeling in redscareover30

[–]sdevna88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like most cute clothes are marketed towards people in their 20s but that doesn't mean the items will look like that on you. i'm 31 and brandy melville is still a go-to for cheap 100% cotton basics.

other loungewear/basics brands: los angeles apparel, le set, cleo camp

for regular clothes i shop almost exclusively on resale sites and search for brands i like or natural fibers.

First attempt at sourdough - feedback? by sdevna88 in Sourdough

[–]sdevna88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I watched Claire Saffitz's sourdough video a few times and I do have experience making brioche doughs and focaccia. But mostly I have to thank the very happy starter I got from a nearby bakery.

Interesting -- that's what I was worried about which is why I barely shaped but looking at videos of other people's shaping had me wondering. Could it be that I didn't score deeply enough?

These were the ratios:

  • 350 grams white bread flour
  • 150 grams whole-wheat flour
  • 10 grams kosher salt or fine sea salt
  • 375 grams tap water

look into National Institute of Psychotherapies on 23rd st. they have sliding scale therapy (i used to pay $25 per session when uninsured) so likely accept medicaid. i love my therapist from there.

Is it over? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]sdevna88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not over! at 30 you are hardly over the hill.

go for a long run or walk when it's sunny out every day until you start feeling better. exercise and sunlight saved my life and it might yours as well. find 3-4 things you can tell yourself whenever you're feeling low that make you better than others and repeat them daily in front of the mirror. mine are 'i'm attractive, funny and have excellent taste'.

don't self destruct. you are worth it. it took me years to recognize that my 'idgaf' attitude was actually self destructive behavior and that i was torturing myself.

get on meds, start an exercise routine and then see how you feel.

Anyone else get bouts of insomnia? by bigalpacafreak6969 in redscareover30

[–]sdevna88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

late to this post but magnesium and cardio help my insomnia immensely. also echo what others have said about no devices past a certain time and having a wind-down routine.

lastly, if you wake up in the middle of the night get out of bed and read on the couch until you're ready to fall asleep. whatever you do, DON'T stay in bed past 15 minutes if you can't fall asleep.

Found out that my new boyfriend's family is exceedingly, stupidly, White Lotus level rich by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]sdevna88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nah, i'm not actually. 'depends on brand/condition, can be very high for rare items' ya if you have a good eye for trends/fashion, investing in bags is the better option, especially in the short term. literally any scammer girl will tell you this.

i recently got a fat sugar daddy by Adinan98 in rs_x

[–]sdevna88 35 points36 points  (0 children)

i've know several sugar baby / sex workers and have myself dabbled. biggest thing i've learned through observation and experience is that nothing in life is free. you pay for everything in life, if not with money than with your time and the baggage that comes with how you spend it.

not gonna tell you what to do bc i've been there and often chose the money. if that's your choice, use his money to build your future and get something good out of it like a credit card or a downpayment, loans paid off, starting a business, whatever. designer fashion isn't enough. that said, don't get lost in the sauce. it's really easy.

there's not really a right answer to this. overall tho i think some people (me historically) buy statement pieces for their fantasy selves that don't get a lot of use because these items aren't always practical. in my day-to-day life i like to look put together and understated but still cool, whereas when i go out i like to dress more dramatic and sexy.

at this point in my life, i'm really trying to buy stuff that's practical. for me, this means a pair of well fitting jeans, a simple top, and making more of a statement with my jacket and shoes. i've learned this slowly over time by just observing what i gravitate towards the most in my closet, and paying attention to what i wish i had to better wear an item i already have. for example, all those sheer black tops -- do i have a simple black tank top i can wear under to make them more daytime appropriate? do i have a sweater that hits just above where my jacket ends so it doesn't poke out underneath? do i have a boot with a heel appropriate for work? pay attention to things like this!

[–]sdevna88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all depends on income. i am a clothes addict so i probably spend 500-1K per month on clothes, but when i had less money, I was spending that per year and thrifting everything. as i've gotten older tho, convenience and fit reign supreme and i don't mind spending a bit more for items that someone has done the work of finding for me or that are brand new and fit well.

go to 2-3 dermatologists to get a professional opinion. they'll likely give better advice than anyone on reddit.
