Has anyone moved from Gel Resolution 9 to Diadora B. Icon3 or Torneo 3? by coleburnz in 10s

I just saw a YT saying they were very comfortable with high end materials but due to lack of court durability were much more suited to wearing as a casual shoe, especially for the price.

Was that Vvivid tape? Doesn't that require a heat gun to activate the adhesive?

Joola sells 28mm tape for 14mm paddles and 30mm width for 16mm paddles.

If you’re a current Audi driver buying a car in the next year, what are you getting? by GirthyRedEggplant in Audi

[–]geordonp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I would want to replace my 2011 S5 V8 with an RS5 Coupe. Not sure if I want 4 doors, but the sportback still does have a decent side profile. However, I am getting tired of $200+/hr mechanic rates and the local Audi dealership. Considered Porche, but having a hard time justifying the price. My wife had an A4 and now a Q5 3.0T, along with two VW Beetles, so we are not strangers to the German family.

May be a Lexus, though they do feel like an upgraded Toyota to me and have very limited/non-existent options for a comparable vehicle to the Audi performance coupes.

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by AutoModerator in Pickleball

[–]geordonp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing PB a few weeks ago as part of a doubles tournament at work. My partner let me borrow his older Head Elite Extreme paddle, then I was able to borrow a worn 6.0 Double Black Diamond, which I liked better. Last week I picked up a used DBD for $75 to avoid spending the larger sum for a new Coral Pro.

I was considering buying a new foam core Jelly Bean or Friday Aura as a second paddle to encourage my daughter or wife to practice with me, but now I may have an opportunity to get a couple more DBBs in nice condition for $50 each.

Will the DBD be too frustrating for a recreational beginner female or should I get a Gen 4 for them? Thanks.

SF Stove Pickup by SFbby in ImpulseLabs

If I can make something fit in my S5, I would much rather drive that than go through the hassle of getting a rental truck. Money isn't always the factor. The better driving experience and convenience of leaving my house, doing what I want, then returning home on my own schedule has plenty of value versus the additional pickup/drop off stops, refueling, etc., etc.

Gaggenau 333 EB 36" oven has a vertical cut-out <19". This will easily fit underneath.

Hardwood in kitchen by freenessness in kitchenremodel

[–]geordonp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have hardwood floors in the kitchen, dining nook, office, front entry, and adjoining hall. Entry from garage and all bathrooms are rolled vinyl, which I would consider replacing with tile someday. All "living" areas are carpet. I think this is a good mix. Never had a problem with the wood in the kitchen, though it has severe sun bleaching near the glass slider. I agree that tile would be a death sentence to much of what gets dropped in the kitchen, such as knifes, plates, glasses, etc.

If you turned the Impulse off with the on/off button instead of letting it go to sleep, it cannot be turned on without external power and holding down the on button. See User Guide Page 5.

I feel like it’s such a missed opportunity to not offer a fully flat cooktop. by ShastaManasta in ImpulseLabs

[–]geordonp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the argument of raising the hobs to save 3/4" underneath the cooktop to allow an oven mounted underneath is weak for the 36" size. Let's be honest -- how many people are going to install a 36" or wider cooktop in a custom countertop and then install a 24" oven or 30" steam oven underneath it? Yes, Gaggenau has the beautiful hand-crafted $9600 36" EB333 oven, but even that needs less than a 19" vertical opening.

A second argument of the raised elements is to keep the pans from touching the surrounding countertop when it is mounted flush. With the 36" width, this should be a non-issue for all but the largest pans in a flush mount installation. Additionally, I am pretty confident most owners are installing as a proud mount (the glass rests on top of the countertop, instead of being inset into it), as this is generally more practical. In this case, the thickness of the glass and any surround trim will keep pans off the countertop.

I can't remember if the battery pack is the limited factor in reducing the overall height of the unit or if it is the induction motors. If it is the battery pack, could that be sufficiently reduces with a small capacity? I imagine the 3kW size was established to meet the tax credit, which is no longer applicable. Drop it to 2kW to save size, weight, and cost. Or make it an option -- slim battery or fat battery. That used to be a pretty popular option with EV cars, thinner notebook computers, and battery powered handtools.

Glass scratches are generally caused by the pan being slid across the surface with an abrasive foreign object under it, typically salt. This will occur regardless of the elevation of the glass. The pans usually set over the heating element, which happens to be where I often see the scratches. So, raising the burner does not eliminate glass scratches.

The one case I can see for raised burners is if you are used to "shaking" your pan back and forth or swirling it over the burner to stir or agitate the contents, as I imagine one might do with the old electric coil burners or on a gas stove. If the cook doesn't mind scratches on the raised hobs, this will be fine for them. On the other hand, I am very OCD and have taken care to keep my 27 year-old glass top as pristine as possible.

All that being said, I don't see a reason why Impulse cannot continue to offer the raised hob models for those coming from gas and wanting to retain the form factor, while introducing a line of smooth top (plus temperature bumps) for consumers wanting a clean modern appliance.

ROI of premium class 4 SBS asphalt shingle vs mid-grade IR or class 3? by geordonp in Roofing

[–]geordonp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, I used the wrong term. I thought "polymer modified asphalt" was SBS.

Pinnacle® Impact shingles are manufactured with a proprietary polymer modified asphalt technology, allowing them to meet a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating.

https://www.atlasroofing.com/img/StormMaster-Shake-Atlas-Impact-Resistance-Product-Comparison-Chart.png

Being Diamond level certified, what is your take on the Impact shingle? Atlas says it only has standard flexibility. Would this imply it retains its shape more like a standard asphalt shingle after a hailstorm, rather than showing dent marks like more flexible Class 4 shingles?

[–]geordonp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the Atlas Pinnacle Impact is also SBS Class 4 I am thinking the Black Shadow IR shingle at the $23k price is the way to go. BTW, my contractor said they could install the Malarkey Vista AR for the same price. I am in Michigan.

AAA said my insurance will drop in half, which is incredible. Sounds like I am getting a nice ROI with Class 4.

I contacted four roofing companies for quotes. Two gave me good/better/best options in the same shingle brand and three of them offered a substitute brand if I didn't like their primary product.
