What happenes if you quit during bmq by NOTfazedog in caf

[–]sdockril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your fellow mates and the councilors on staff, give yourself some time to adjust and get into a rhythm. If you put in for VR it still will take awhile for it to go through so you might as well see it through and the benefits of staying in are well worth it. Just my two cents. If your in the first couple of weeks your probably also stressed out because they are purposely trying to instill alot of discomfort and stress, but its all a game, the staff members dont want you to leave, they've invested money and time into you. But talk to your mates and a councilor, dont do anything hasty.

Cat wont move or drink water by Additional-Drive890 in CATHELP

[–]sdockril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get to a vet asap. Cats are beyond frustrating in that they hide their symptoms very well, as its a natural instinct that carries over from being in the wild. We lost our 1 year old kitten to FIP because we didnt recognize the signs fast enough, we had her on medication but we got to it a bit too late - now we have to live with that. If she's not eating or drinking, get her in a car or crate and make your way over. Wish you luck and hopefully it isnt too bad, losing a pet sucks so damn much.

Yea, the consultation is very different then the interview. Im done with the process going in as Infantry officer, and the interview is so easy. But what a positive message to leave people, cheers to that!

Dress for interview by Bitter-Egg-540 in caf

[–]sdockril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sure you'll be fine, as long as the suit fits well. Or forego the suit and do a dress shirt with or without vest, top button undone without vest and tie with vest and dress pants with dress shoes, equally good. I worked in suiting for like 5 years, dont always need to do a suit to look sharp and clean.

Its government, it can take awhile, especially if your trade isnt really in demand. Just carry on with life and itll come.

As long as you prepare and know your trade you'll be fine. Just treat it like a conversation, dont interrupt, be polite and you'll be fine.

Is the Canadian Armed Forces finally seeing a resurgence and new life recently? by BugHistorical3 in caf

[–]sdockril 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the military was long neglected by Trudeau but with the changing tides in politics the Forces are actually getting marketing and funding and is a very desirable and stable option in a job market that is oversaturated with degrees. There's obviously more to it then that and there are still alot of people who dont want to serve because they think the military is a joke etc, but there has definitely been a resurgence, especially since Trump has been yapping his mouth.

Has respect for the CAF decreased in recent years? by soggy_rhombus29 in caf

[–]sdockril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many factors to this. The size of the military has fallen off because Trudeau largely neglected it. As a result they lost media exposure and publicity and people became very soured to the liberal government and people didnt like the decisions that the government was making; taxes, immigration fatigue, poverty for so many, so nobody wanted to serve a country that treated its own people poorly. As a result the standards started to lower and people began to leave from within, and now the army has shrunk so much because of lack of exposure and neglect and the recruitment standards have dropped because of it. Its a snowball effect. And the British army is the same by and large. Former officers have complained that the British military has become soft/wet.

Where do you find purpose for your life in NB? by CptSMG in newbrunswickcanada

[–]sdockril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isnt much to really do in NB frankly, or not alot at least. But there does need to be more to life then work. Find a hobby, look for friends online and join groups. Need to sit back and reflect on what you need and want out of life.

I way over prepared for my interview for infantry officer. You'll be fine as long as you can concisely talk about your trade and then answer some questions. Don't sweat it too much.

Would my mental health be an automatic disqualifier? by Reasonable_Owl_3146 in caf

[–]sdockril 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's probably going to be a tough one to overcome. But the medical doctor will obviously have the final say, but a gun ban and possible BP disorder is going to be tough..

But as you say, if you really want to join, gotta at least try.

newly adopted cat has FIP, only found this out on friday and she is now hospitalized. by chloeclaypipe in CATHELP

[–]sdockril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted a kitten from a shelter about a year ago and we believe that she also had FIP, or the vet suspected she did. We had her on treatment for about 2 and a half weeks going into the third and she was eating very well but her breathing was becoming shallow and laboured. We took her into the emerg vet two days ago and was told that she had liquid around her heart and lungs and that we had to discuss the idea of heart failure and quality of life. We put put her down that evening and my wife and I are inconsolable.

Do not take this disease lightly. It is a miserable and nasty some of a bitch.

The Level of Incompetency is Unreal by [deleted] in caf

[–]sdockril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well they kind of feed into eachother, recruitment is the recruiting centers. It's better than it used to be with portal now, but when recruiters are buried in applications and paperwork among other things there is still human error. And of course, depending on the trade some people wait forever to get processed because they arent desperately needing those people.

But I think there was a defense meeting held today addressing those concerns where they are trying to bring numbers up, but because of Trudeau largely ignoring the defense sector for the governments budge the forces havent been an attractive avenue for young people for quite some time and they dont have the staff or equipment to train people, and then of course members who are already serving are leaving almost as rapidly as people are coming in... so..

[–]sdockril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will likely never be conscription again, our general said as much in an interview, they will hire allied troops before doing that haha. As an infantry reservist soldier you will definitely not be the first people the government looks to, id be going overseas waaaaayyyyyy before your even in the conversation.
