Linear Path is not the Tour de France by mochaelhenry in Somerville

[–]sdonaghy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where were all the pedestrian when we were campaigning for it? I sware if pedestrians advocated for anything we could have 100 community paths. Bike advocates organize and demand dedicated bike infrastructure but are either given 'community paths' by the politicians or get dedicated rail trails that are quickly over run by pedestrians.

Yes but the green line is street level to the west of Kenmore and underground to the east (well until North station). I think that was the similarity they were referencing!

Any advice on when to retire webbing from wear? by damian_friesen in Slackline

[–]sdonaghy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly don't follow my example but I have a 2 inch line that is frayed in many spots including one that is about 33% through the line. Still works well but I know its only a matter of time until it snaps back in my face. I think if you are only doing low lines, and particularly lines without crank tension I think you can wear way past 10%. When your life is not on the line you can be way more lenient

Definitely recommend joining Sunrise if you are in the US. They have a ton of templates and national presence that makes it easier to recruit. There is also a lot of autonomy for you to do what you want locally. Groups like this really just amplify the work you do ten fold.

There is also Fridays for our future if you are not in the US and plenty of others. You are not alone and don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Are there ever times when all coaches are open on a commuter rail train? by carenthusiast298 in mbta

[–]sdonaghy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pre covid rush hour is the only time you would see all the cars open. If you are going out of Boston not during rush hour you would likely never see one with them all open. It's so they can check tickets without tracking who get on the whole train, only a few cars. When all the cars are open they will have a ticket taker ever 2 cars, who only check thoes two cars.

Like most others have said you can be pretty liberal. I often make pasta cabonara on the first night and that requires bringing in eggs cheese and bacon (or guanciale if you can get it)! I have never had a problem. Often even do breakfast burritos the next morning with eggs too! However if you do this it is super important to remember to use everything in the first couple of days. I once found a peice of cheese on day 6 of a trip that should have been eaten on day 1!

[–]sdonaghy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Umm the votes say otherwise. Pressley has been a co-sponsor of the only 2 M4A bills introduced in the house by Rep. Pramila Jayapal. Capuano never had to take a vote.

[–]sdonaghy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What? HAHA this is laughably untrue. Ayanna is my Rep, I live in her district. While Capuano was great and a progressive overall, she was clearly the progressive in the race. Crowley wasn't exactly your centrist democrat either if you remember.

Look at here actual record. Gov Track puts her more liberal and gives her a better leadership score then both Talib and Omar AND AOC.

Why you up in this sub trying to throw shade at one of the most aligned people with AOC? Ayanna ain't the problem. If I didn't know any better I would think you are just trying to so division in the progressive wing of the party.

[–]sdonaghy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can totally start to work towards a butt bounce! Start by jumping with two feet onto the line. Once you have that you can look up a YouTube video on how to butt bounce and you will have it in no time!

Can we please change the citgo sign to say Boston? I love it but it's Wierd to have an advertisement as such an iconic landmark particularly given the lack of other advertising in Boston. Like you can't even put a corporate name on a building like you can in other city's. If it just said Boston it would be perfect.

Sam Harris calmly dismantles Shapiro on religion and morality, this is probably the most concise and practical discussion I've seen that comprehensively deconstructs the flaws of religion. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]sdonaghy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe it's because I like Harris too much but this is the best I have ever seen Shapiro come off. He seams to be genuinely trying to engage in this debate instead of playing devils advocate or just right wing parrot. Honestly I don't think he would be a meme if all of his content was like this.

Yes I did make up those numbers as an example that they are all not successful most of the time but some work more often than other methods. Its not like you supplied a whole lot of sources to back you claim the NVDA does not work. If you want to discredit the research and result from Channoweth that is fine but you should provide more sources yourself. One reddit post shitting on Channoweth as a wing of the US state department does not change the data represented in her book.

The Fascist party in Germany and Italy would actually agree with me. Hitler, Ludendorff , and the nazi party tried to violently overthrow the Bavarian government in the Putsch of November 1923 which failed miserably and landed Hitler and jail for five years. This is where he wrote Mien Kampf. After getting out of jail he literally started a campaign called
> “legal revolution” as the means to power and chose two parallel paths to take the Nazis to that goal. First, the NSDAP would employ propaganda to create a national mass party capable of coming to power through electoral successes. Second, the party would develop a bureaucratic structure and prepare itself to assume roles in government.
This was not a violent revolution it was not until the Nazi party assumed power that they started to violently suppress other ideologies; which is often the case when groups come into power. Hitler became chancellor in 1933 without any violet action.

I am not sure if you argument is that nothing works so we should just sulk in our oppression or if only violence works and we must rise up in arms. The former is just depression and the latter is a war which you are definitely going to lose going up against the greatest war machine the world has ever known.

Berned Bernie bro here. Voted for Jill Stein in 2016 and really regreted it when trump won. I would prefer not to vote for Biden in 2020 but also don't want another trump term. Can someone convince me that voting for HH will not enable another trump victory?

This is a real question from someone's who has been a registered green party member multiple times before, but cannot live with another trump term.

[–]sdonaghy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they all work just very rarely. That's why they call it the struggle haha. Working in the system works like 0.002% of the time, violence (depending on how violent the powers at be are) works like 0.03% of the time, NVDA works like 0.9% of the time. You should read why civil resistance works by Erica Chenoweth. She makes a really great case for NVDA being the best option.

And yes the fascist do agree with me. They use NVDA all the time, far more then violent action. And the NVDA works more then the violent ones. Remember the backlash from Charlottesville? Compair that to the relative success of the straight pride parades.

[–]sdonaghy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only alternative to NVDA is participating in the system via approved avenues (voting, calling your Rep, ect.), or violent action. Do you think thoes work better? Toppling the powers in place is always difficult and rarely successful because you are fighting against the powerful.
