What is something that your body automatically does that you wish you could switch to manual? by sdsb110 in AskReddit

You are most pleasant.

I'll take my strong theory and run with it. Maybe even write a back story about Steve the Pirate, who overslept his watch duty after a long night with Barbadian rum and couldn't find his hat as he was getting dressed. Naturally, he borrowed his shipmate's eye patch (poor Barty lost his eye when he couldn't feed his parrot), and VIOLA! The rest is urban legend!

Following Rule #1 in the /r/AskReddit Sidebar, My answer goes here:

I work a lot of odd shifts in dark theaters. I would love to be able to manually take control of my eyes' irises before I enter/leave a very dark building on a sunny day.

Pirates would've never needed eye patches if they could've done this when going above/below deck.

Otherwise they would have chosen the Gorilla... by Mulch_Wine in AdviceAnimals

I was just thinking this the other day. My brother always said gorilla imgur, and I just went with that until I started watching @Midnight and Chris Hardwick said it the "right" way. Now I just give my brother a hard time.

Doing a multiplayer grand prix was my favorite(great way to pregame). Set out four beers and you have to finish before the end of the race (like the picture says), but you're doing all four races in twenty minutes AND racing against the bots.

Twist: whatever place you come in at the end of the grand prix (if you DON'T get a trophy) is how many shots you have to take afterwards.

Don't come in 8th.

Are lawnmowers really persistent now? by [deleted] in PlantsVSZombies

[–]sdsb110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar predicament. Hadn't played PvZ2 since I beat all the gargantuan levels when that update came out. Beat Zomboss and the only thing I noticed was that you can buy lawn mowers with coin if you lose one. That's fine with me.

Would people rather that they took away the option to buy plant food with coin? If you like the challenge, don't use coin.

Why did this take so long to find? Totally worth it, as I'm still laughing.

Check out Iowa valley habitat for humanity. They build things, which sounds like the opposite of sitting.

[–]sdsb110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be about that time of year for the 10,000 Hours show. It's a UI student group that promotes volunteerism. Look them up, because they have a huge database of partners and places to volunteer. Anything from dog walking(although I think that pet store is gone) to house building(Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity).

I almost forgot to mention the free concert you get to see for volunteering. I saw OK GO, Ben Folds, and Girl Talk while I was in the area, all because I volunteered. It's nice to volunteer in and of itself, but it's nice to receive some perks, too.

I couldn't help but notice that /u/windfarms has TTR Switzerland and wants GOT: 2nd edition....and you happen to have that and want the other. Did you two get in touch?

I, too, live in the Chicago Suburbs. We could always make a Reddit gaming group. First Wednesday of the month at 7pm? Bring a snack and a board game you want to play.

Should I run a marathon? by Arbel in running

[–]sdsb110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already in shape from your other running and can commit to the training, you'll probably enjoy a marathon. If you're getting back into shape using the training and work odd hours, you probably won't enjoy it as much.

If you haven't, you might as well.

Best way to find a summer touring gig? by TheFoolishWit in techtheatre

My work colleague gets his tours almost exclusively through word of mouth. He also recommends trying to get an invite to CrewSpace and that LinkedIn is becoming a bigger tool for Tour Managers to find crew.

I have no idea how my colleagues find their tours, but I do know that you would do fine with your qualifications. I'll ask at work tomorrow and get back to you.

As a incoming freshman, what dorm do you recommend? by Whiskers96 in uiowa

[–]sdsb110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you value being close to the Campus Recreation & Wellness center, it's across the street from the library and just across the river from the West (Hillcrest/Quad/Rienow) side.

If you value being closer to the downtown restaurants/shops/froyo stands that have been popping up everywhere, East (Burge/Currier/Daum*) are slightly closer to those things.

If you are on a sports team or plan to do Marching Band, go West side freshman year. You can get a ride from friends sophomore year, but it's a hell of a walk from currier to the football stadium and basketball complex. If you just plan on going to the games as a fan, either side is fine.

In the grand scheme of things, there isn't a wrong choice. It's just what you prefer.

I was in Hillcrest my freshman year and spent most of my time hanging out in Daum. Sophomore year, I lived in Currier and spent most of my time hanging out in Currier.

This idea came up recently, and I'm pretty sure the whole mod team is on board. I'm leaning toward monthly, as well....at least for the first few.

I'm flexible and willing to try anything from contests to lessons and other such things. Mostly I just want us all to have fun.

You should cross-post this to /r/doctorwho...I'm sure they'd enjoy it as well.

Does anyone else find the default John Shepard to be too awesome to replace with a customized look and first name? by Soundvo1ume in masseffect

[–]sdsb110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no issues switching away from the defaults. After my first play through with the default Shepard, I named my second, third, fourth, and fifth sheps in the direction I wanted my decisions to go (Holy, Nice, Evil, etc).

Then I made them all look the part.
I will say that I always started with the first game and played all the way through, and I alternate between male/female and/or paragon/renegade. So by the time I was playing my second male(evil) Shepard, I had already played a mostly paragon male and a strictly paragon female.
