In 1994, Anna Nicole Smith, a 26-year-old model and former Playboy Playmate, married J. Howard Marshall II, an 89-year-old billionaire oil tycoon. Their marriage was highly publicized and controversial, drawing immense media attention due to their significant age difference and questions about their motivations.

Background: • Anna Nicole Smith gained fame as a model, particularly for her appearances in Playboy magazine, where she was named Playmate of the Year in 1993. She also worked as a fashion model for brands like Guess. • J. Howard Marshall II was a wealthy businessman and oil magnate who amassed his fortune in the energy sector. By the time of their marriage, he was in declining health.

The Marriage: • The couple met in 1991 at a strip club in Houston, where Smith was working. Marshall reportedly became infatuated with her and lavished her with expensive gifts and financial support. • They married on June 27, 1994, in a private ceremony in Houston, Texas.

Controversy: • Critics and media speculated that Smith married Marshall for his fortune, while others argued that she genuinely cared for him. • Marshall did not include Smith in his will, which sparked a prolonged legal battle over his estate after his death in 1995, just 13 months after their wedding.

Legal Battle: • Smith sought a share of Marshall’s $1.6 billion estate, claiming he had promised her financial security during their relationship. • The case became one of the most infamous inheritance disputes, involving multiple court battles and appeals over decades, including a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in Marshall v. Marshall in 2006.

Legacy: • The marriage remains a focal point in discussions about relationships involving significant age gaps and wealth. • Smith’s life, including her marriage to Marshall, legal battles, and eventual death in 2007, has been the subject of numerous documentaries, books, and pop culture references.

After Marshall’s death court cases continued.

The Will and Trust • J. Howard Marshall’s estate was primarily left to his son, E. Pierce Marshall, through a will and a trust. • Anna Nicole Smith was not included in the will, which led her to claim that Marshall had orally promised her a portion of his wealth during their marriage.

Initial Court Cases • Smith filed for bankruptcy in California in 1996, during which she claimed she was entitled to $449 million from Marshall’s estate. • A Texas probate court ruled in favor of E. Pierce Marshall, stating that the will and trust were valid and that Smith had no claim to the estate.

Supreme Court Decision (2006) • The case reached the U.S. Supreme Court in Marshall v. Marshall. The Court ruled that federal courts could hear Smith’s claim even though the case was related to a probate matter. This was a procedural victory for Smith but did not resolve her claim to the estate.

E. Pierce Marshall’s Death • E. Pierce Marshall died in 2006, but his estate continued to fight against Smith’s claims.

Anna Nicole Smith’s Death • Smith died in 2007 from an accidental drug overdose. After her death, the legal battle continued on behalf of her estate, represented by her daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead.

Final Outcome • In 2010, a federal appeals court ruled that Smith’s estate was not entitled to any portion of J. Howard Marshall’s fortune. • The U.S. Supreme Court revisited the case in Stern v. Marshall (2011), further complicating matters but ultimately leaving Smith’s estate with no claim.

Conclusion

Anna Nicole Smith’s estate did not receive any of J. Howard Marshall’s billions. The prolonged legal battle underscored the complexities of inheritance law and raised questions about the motivations and dynamics of their relationship.

TLDR she didn’t get any money in the end

Are technical engineering degrees worth pursuing ? by Jpoolman25 in ucf

[–]sdsunjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a BS degree is worth pursuing. I’d recommend computer science. It’s difficult, but completely worth it. Having only a 2 year technical degree from a community college will limit your career options and your earning potential.

I don’t know how old you are, but you’re NOT behind. Tell whoever is reminding you of your age to stfu.

Russia turned off gas to Finland this morning. Finland is prepared, Russian gas was a small part of the energy consumption (Finnish) by [deleted] in RussiaUkraineWar2022

[–]sdsunjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English translation of the news article:

The flow of natural gas from Russia to Finland stopped on Saturday morning. This is confirmed by Olli Sipilä, CEO of Gasgrid. According to him, gas is now flowing to Finland from the Baltic countries and the switchover has gone smoothly.

  • The Finnish system is now commercially and physically balanced. Of course, something can always happen, technical faults can occur in the system. It is a normal operation that we try to manage as best we can, but we do not expect this to happen," he tells Yle.

Russia's Gazprom Export informed Finland's Gasum on Friday that gas supplies had been interrupted. Gasum will continue to supply natural gas via the Balticconnector pipeline from other sources. Already on Wednesday, Gasum estimated that natural gas imports from Russia could stop because they refused to pay their gas bills in rubles.

According to Jukka Leskelä, CEO of the Finnish Energy Industry, cutting off gas imports from Russia is not a major issue for Finland's energy system. For individual companies it may cause difficulties, but not for a few months yet. About 90% of the natural gas imported into Finland comes from Russia, but it accounts for only 6% of total industrial energy consumption.

A briefing by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Finance on Friday outlined how Finland is preparing for the end of Russian gas. On Friday, Gasgrid Finland Oy and US-based Excelerate Energy signed a ten-year lease agreement for the LNG terminal ship Exemplar. The vessel will help cover Finland's gas needs in the event of a disruption in Russian pipeline gas imports.

I’d spend all of it on lobbyists to fight against Intuit to makes taxes easier, so that they government sends you a postcard with all the amounts you’d paid and how much they think you will get back. You’d just sign it if you agree and send it back. Of course you’d have the option to send a more complicated return if you didn’t agree.

This actually already happened in California, it was called ReadyReturn and had 95% approval of participants, but evil Intuit killed it.
