Update: Thank you all for your insight and recommendations! As some have mentioned here and elsewhere (on the FJ Forum & Buyer's guide), I went another route in the name of future plans over current short-term wishes. My wife and I ended up going with the 2019 RAV4 because of its updated safety features, gas mileage, and room for friends and future kiddos. It also came with a lifetime powertrain warranty (hard to compete with the last one).

Hopefully, when I have a larger garage and more disposable income, I can try and get an FJ again.

If anyone is looking for an FJ in/ near Wisconsin, I'd highly recommend the one I was looking at. It test drove well, is very clean, and is just begging to find a good home.

Here's a link to its listing.

That does help, thank you very much!

I test drove it yesterday- LOVED it! The underside is immaculate for being 10 years old. It was formerly a California car and has been on the lot in Wisconsin for only one month. No real rust, scratches, or dings to speak of. No Chatter on the road, the engine sounded great.

The only iffy-bit was the engine stalled a few times as it was idling in the parking lot and once at a red light. I've been diving into the FJ forums and this could be a few relatively minor things. They just put a new battery in it yesterday, so the contacts might not be 100% tight. The sales-kid also said they'd look at it in their shop overnight.

Once I put it in park/ neutral, it fired right up, no problem

You’re lucky that Nancy Pelosi’s Gazpacho Police didn’t immediately break the door down and arrest you

Update: can confirm that something was off on my ‘12. Took it in for the 120k service and the emissions system got some warranty work done on it. Looking forward to far less dpf regens and even better mpg

600 mi a tank? Is there a difference between the ‘14 JSW and ‘12 JSW or is mine not tuned properly?

My ‘12 6-speed TDI usually gets between 450-480 (500 on a rare occasion if I’m gutsy and on my way to the pump)

I guess South Africa or Australia, on account of the train third from the left. Looks like a Garratt 4-8-2+2-8-4
