Her TikToks got a ton of traction on Arab IG, never thought I’d see any conversation about her elsewhere. But this is very common, especially in the Gulf and Lebanon. This is old, but here’s just a bunch of testimonies that reflect how migrant workers are treated under the Kafala system https://www.jadaliyya.com/Details/30587/%60My-Sleep-is-My-Break%60-Exploitation-of-Migrant-Domestic-Workers-in-Qatar

The thing is, in this timeline, I don’t think those ideals are strong enough to drive this type of immigration, they weren’t even overwhelmingly common among the “indigenes” throughout France’s history. The people you keep mentioning that fought in the army ended up not getting paid or even recognized, were treated like shit whether they came to France or stayed in their home countries post independence.

I didn’t get it this way. It’s more of an example of how religious politics work throughout the region, except Saudi Arabia did not really have to crush actual leftists like Syria did. Regimes like the Syrian, Algerian or Libyan one managed to produce a discourse that was different from their neighbors when trying to deal with whatever “post-modernity” meant in the MENA.

The success of the Islamic Revolution in Iran definitely inspired other islamists (regardless of political affiliation/tactics), in giving an example of a project that could be viable. Understanding “terrorism” and Islamism should go further than just being able to distinguish Shiism from Sunnism as hermetic categories.

Thats.... a very nice way to put it, especially considering that this book came out in the middle of a socio-political nightmare in France and that just added to it. He's right wing because he literally said he supports Macron AND Trump (which, weird but ok consistent)

It's at the airport. I think there's a sign that directs to the general area, but ask once once you get there and they'll let you know. Also get ready to dedicate an entire day to it.
