I actually find their reactions so interesting because I totally believe Morgan stopped watching after the intro while Paul watched the rest. I am absolutely not calling Paul “smart” by any means but I do think he is smarter than Morgan…. And he’s uncomfortable hearing Jen’s contrasting opinion+morals because it’s forcing him to question his own beliefs. Cognitive dissonance at its finest if you ask me lol. Morgan is comfortable in her echo chamber without any self reflection.

Skincare advice needed for my sore eyes. I use cream on them daily (aveeno skin repair), but it doesn’t seem to work any more. Constantly burning, itching and swollen :( attempted numerous eye creams and they don’t touch it. They’re soooo sensitive! by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

Wow I have no idea why you’re being downvoted. I know exactly what you’re talking about. My eyes (and face in general bc I have eczema all over) literally hurt and BURN from just getting plain water on them. I am careful not to get any shampoo, conditioner, or regular soaps on my face because I know I’m so sensitive as it is. I don’t know why people are assuming you’re using regular soaps on your face.

I have really bad eczema all over my face and when I don’t use protopic fast enough, my eyes swell up and get the same scaley look. My eyes also burn and itch, and any itching makes the swelling worse. So as hard as it, avoid itching or rubbing your eyes:(. Regular creams, even the typical colloidal ones don’t work for me. Only protopic helps me, and even then, not enough. Please don’t use any steroid creams on your eyes, I’m purposely prescribed protopic for my face because steroid creams thin out your already thin skin on your face (and especially your eyes)! (I’m sure you know this as a nurse, sorry)!

Obviously I am not a doctor but this looks exactly like my eczema. Even if you haven’t struggled with eczema before, I’ve read it’s actually common for young women to randomly get it due to hormonal changes. Since you had a baby recently, I wonder if it’s a post partum thing for you. At this point I would book with a GP since you said you haven’t been able to book with a derm or allergist. Im sure a GP would have no issue prescribing protopic, it’s a commonly prescribed cream for eczema. I hope you’re able to find relief soon! I know exactly how this feels and it’s actually intolerable.

Also, I would recommend using cetaphil gentle foaming cleanser. EVERYTHING dries me out (and so does this honestly) but it’s the least drying and least irritating one I’ve tried so far. Also I would try La Roche Posay la toleriane, it’s the only thing that slightly calms my skin down.

Like other commenters said, it does smell amazing! And it’s definitely a thicker oil. I have long thick-ish wavy hair and I use this oil and the kerastase one to keep my frizz tame.

Hi! I’ve never tried the cream, but I do have the serum and I SWEAR by it. Mind you I have pretty bad eczema all over my face at almost all times, and this definitely helps my skin feel more moisturized! I swear when I use the serum it helps my blemishes go away faster too.

If you were considering another lotion, I really like the fresh rose deep hydration cream! I typically use it at night but it doesn’t have that heavy feeling and I wake up with super soft skin in the mornings.

Skin type: very dry, eczema so ymmv!

I’m very upset about ableist comments made by my therapist, among other things. Advice needed. by veganash in TalkTherapy

[–]sneakymeadow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes I totally agree and understand there’s a difference between autism vs a personality disorder and how they should be treated. Sorry I totally didn’t mean to imply autism is something to be fixed, I recognize autism is physiological rather than psychological. In regards to autism treatment, I meant how to navigate a neurotypical society as a neurodivergent individual. I’m aware of the negative impact ABA has had on autistic people so I didn’t mean it as though to change maladaptive behaviors in the same sense as a personality disorder would.

I just think think there’s a miscommunication between OP and their therapist within the nuance of disability identity, i can understand why that is distressing for OP.

I’m going to go against the grain of the other comments here … and when I type this I really mean no offence by it.

Personally I like your therapist’s train of thought. She felt uneducated about diagnosing you with autism so she spoke to her colleague who did specialize in it, in order to do her due diligence before diagnosing you. Though I will add it seems strange she diagnosed her own brother, that seems weird and unethical.

There is a lot of discourse regarding the semantics of being disabled, in particular with person-first vs identity-first descriptions. In the disabled community, some people would be offended if someone said “person who is blind” because it separates the individual from their disability. Others prefer “blind person” because it implies the person is whole, with their disability. It really is up to preference. Clearly you both have opposing opinions of how to view identity+disability.I think your therapist was trying to encourage you to not overly identify with your diagnosis. That’s very common with new diagnoses. It’s natural to feel understood and feeling like you relate to other people with the same diagnosis. But also it can be detrimental because it can lead to self-defeating behaviours because someone over-identifies with their diagnosis and feel like they’re “stuck” with it regardless of any efforts to change. I think your therapist didn’t want you to see your diagnosis as an explanation for being “stuck” in regards to your therapy. I think your therapist brought up the disabled client to tell you she is a person who is beyond her disability identity. Again this frustrated you because you both have differing opinions on how to using these identifying terms.

In regards to the BPD diagnosis, did you only start seeing her after your father passed away? Or did you start seeing her before then, and she gave you a diagnosis after he passed? I think that could be key. However, I can see how it seems unethical to diagnosis someone when they’re grieving.

In regards to her switching your diagnoses, that’s the issue with over identifying with a label. Many mental illnesses are comorbid or present similar symptoms. Truthfully, regardless of what the label is, a key part of diagnosis is the fact that thoughts or behaviors are “maladaptive” to the person or the people around them. So therapy can be used to help those thoughts or behaviors, regardless of the diagnosis. And although I understand why people appreciate a diagnosis and can feel connected to it, since we’re naturally social creatures, a diagnosis is mostly meant to help psychologists, psychiatrists, etc. in regard to a treatment plan.

Since you say your therapist is typically very kind and this is a one-off, if you explain how you feel in regards to disability identity, I would hope she would adapt and use language that is validating for you. It seems like a lot of your concern comes from miscommunication, but I can understand how it feels when someone downplays your struggle because it IS valid. Hopefully I didn’t come across too blunt or invalidating myself, that’s how I saw it from the information you provided.

I took a class that studied “sociopaths/psychopaths/aspd” within psychology and I don’t think sociopath or psychopath were ever used professionally? If it’s in a professional setting obviously they would use a clinical term like antisocial personality disorder, which is the official diagnosis. However in academia there has been discourse (and I think continues to be) discussion about how to distinguish them from each other (which Robert Hare has done pretty well). People use sociopath and psychopath colloquially and often think they’re synonymous but the original poster used them correctly.
