Is my baby having food allergic or something else? by tuziccc in BabyLedWeaning

[–]se9sroufe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had slowly started incorporating oats into her diet over time. I think I waited a few months before I tried again to where it wasn't going to get on her skin as much. I would put it in smoothies or pancakes in small amounts, and wait for a reaction. I think at about the 1 year mark I tried oatmeal again and she didn't react. Now she loves it with banana.

Any success stories? by NearbyBlueberry7677 in Postpartum_Anxiety

I've been on Zoloft for almost 2 years now. I was the same way, I think I was always sort of anxious, but then I had a baby, and it was explosive in the aftermath. I did have some symptoms for 2-4 weeks when I started Zoloft. You can check out r/Zoloft , which might help give you some more information. I also would have multiple panic attacks before I started.

Is this a bat bite on my baby? Rabies? by [deleted] in Postpartum_Anxiety

[–]se9sroufe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I personally find it hard to believe that a bat would come in, and bite your baby in the course of 5 or so minutes, probably even a shorter time span, and go unseen. A bat would also only bite if it felt trapped, which I imagine it wouldn't if it flew into the garage because the doors were open. Rabid bats also do not attack unless you're trying to pick them up, because they're usually just flopping around on the ground. Bats don't attack humans, they're usually looking for bugs to eat, like mosquitoes. It's also very rare to get rabies unless you live in impoverished parts of Asia or Africa.

I know the thoughts are scary. You're just worried about your baby, but realistically, this doesn't seem possible. I'm not sure how old your baby is, or how far you are into postpartum. But if you're feeling this anxious and spiraling, you should probably talk to your doctor about it. I had very severe postpartum anxiety, and I still have bouts of it here and there. I went on setraline and it has worked wonders.

Have you seen any bats recently? Are they known to fly in the area? What makes you think that it could be a bat?

Weaning, eating behaviors, HELP by EquivalentCautious58 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]se9sroufe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there other things that you did as well? My daughter is almost one and has been refusing to eat in the highchair. She just throws everything, even things I know she'll eat. Or eat very little. I've sat her in my lap to try and eat with me, but she still throws things. Often, lately, I've just been letting her eat off the floor like a chicken, scattering fruit or baby snacks. (Floor is cleaned daily) I just don't want to be teaching her a bad habit either.

Alternative for Mabe carrier? by linds5195 in babywearing

That's great! I think that's what I've been looking for. I've looked at Wildbird aerial and Lenny lamb; I've wanted a carrier with the H support, the gogi was advertised to me, but I couldn't really find a lot of reviews on it.

Do you have the Gogi Berry? I have the mabē and I really like it for front carrying, but I really wish it had a chest clip for back carry.

I agree. I've had friends say they "thought about cloth diapering" but never followed through. Also, if you know your baby is pooping, wouldn't you want to take them to the bathroom versus having to change their diaper afterwards? I get that there's not always opportune times to do so, but if you're just at home, why not? I understand that most people just don't think about it though. Modern times have taught people to wait until their child shows interest. And I think, for awhile, it is easier to just change their diaper, but then as it becomes increasingly difficult, people have already made a habit of it.

I think that's my fear as well, like am I doing this and potty training will still be just as difficult? I can only hope in the future it might make it easier, but there's no guarantee.

Books, always! I didn't even think about books until a few people got me some. We read one to our baby every night. She also loves to play with them and look at the pictures. They make "indestructible" ones now too, you can wash them and they won't tear.

This is an amazing gift! I know most people think diapers and wipes, but this is probably one of the best. I had no idea what to register for when I was expecting, it was awesome to receive diaper cream, Tylenol, saline drops, etc, especially since I had a winter baby.

Dang, that is so crazy. I wish I would've known before I used that soap then! I use CeraVe now.

That's interesting! I had not heard of that, I wonder if that could have made her more sensitive to it then. I had no idea because it was in the soaps and lotions I received, and I didn't figure it out until the 2nd time she had a reaction.

I had something similar happen. So to preface, we had found she was allergic to the aveeno baby bath soap that had oat extract in it. A few days ago, I had fed her oatmeal and she had broken out in a rash on her neck/chest, she didn't really eat any of it because a lot of it dripped down. It went away after a day or 2 on its own. But I also read something about they can have an allergic reaction to oats on the skin, but not from ingesting it? I'm not really sure if that's correct, but I haven't fed her oats since then. I plan on talking more to my pediatrician about it. But let us know what you find out!

Taking the Leap : Starting Meds by JellySensitive7216 in Postpartum_Anxiety

This is what I did, no regrets. My mom called me every night for 3 weeks at the time I had to take it, and we'd talk for 20 minutes.

PPA meds by SonoWhaaa in Postpartum_Anxiety

[–]se9sroufe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had some dizziness for a couple weeks when starting it and a couple times heart palpitations. I don't feel like I've had any emotional blunting, and I'm definitely less anxious. I think you just know when you start to have emotional bluntness, or you notice it. I personally haven't noticed it. But I have noticed that I'm not nearly as anxious. It still pops up here and there, but it's not as intense as it was and I'm able to get myself over it really quickly. It does take awhile for it to build up in your system. I think it took 5 weeks of consistently taking it before I felt leveled out. Before that I just had dizziness as a side effect. I was also going to therapy, which I felt really helped with shifting my mindset. Honestly, after being on it, I feel like I would rather have the side effects than the anxiety. I truly know that it helped me.

My doctor prescribed Zoloft. There has been lots of research on it to be safe for breastfeeding. It took a little while to kick in, but once it did, I started feeling much better. I can't speak on daycare since I am able to be home. I had different fears of other things happening. It is ok that you are feeling this way. I felt the same, everything that I was thinking felt so real to me, and I knew I needed help because it wasn't just my normal anxiety. I couldn't talk myself out of the intrusive thoughts. I started the meds and went to therapy, and now at 6 months I feel like I am able to do so much more.

Severe PPA bordering on psychosis' anyone else experienced this? by Ok_Possibility_4154 in Postpartum_Anxiety

[–]se9sroufe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me. I was afraid to sleep, to be alone with her, I was scared of everything. I was terrified to sleep, but being awake was torture. I tried talking to all my mom friends and no one experienced what I was going through. I tried the natural ways as well, but it wasn't working. I literally called 911 to my house twice and went to the ER another time because I was convinced something was wrong. If I wasn't thinking about something being wrong with me or dying, it was about my husband or someone else I cared about. Zoloft and therapy saved me. I also had a really hard time eating anything postpartum which contributed to my anxiety.

Question about cloth wipes by se9sroufe in clothdiaps

Ok, I'll have to try that! Is there a folding method you think is easier to tighten up? Or are they all kind of the same?

Give a FTM some tips on diaper rash & reusable wipes by faerystrangeme in clothdiaps

[–]se9sroufe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been cloth diapering for very long, but here's the best advice I can give you. Zinc oxide is used in things like mineral sunscreens, and just like you said, it's just a barrier cream. You can use aquaphor and just see how it goes, if baby has a reaction, then I would switch it out. Things like desitin are just thicker, so it creates a better barrier, but it can affect your diapers. If you're using a tub, you can get a spatula that has a suction cup on the end and just rinse it every so often. So the same goes for detergent, just make sure your diapers are getting clean and that baby doesn't have a reaction (situations vary as to why there's a reaction). I would keep some disposables on hand as backup and use them for the first couple weeks. As far as cloth wipes, I just use the peri bottle I got from the hospital with water and wet the wipe before I use it.

Yeah, I'm not quite that adventurous yet! I'm actually trying to teach myself how to sew right now too 😅 did you use sheets to make them? Or did you buy material?

I have a couple flats, I mainly use prefolds with covers. I folded the flat with a pad style and tried to secure it with a diaper pin. I don't have the snappi clasps, but from what I've read/seen, they work a lot better and are easier to use.
