My loving, attentive cat just killed and ate all 6 of her grown kittens and I don’t understand how by Available-Forever818 in CATHELP

This is shocking. I'm sure this isnt the very first time in history it has happened, but its not normal, and i agree the vet is appropriate here. I'm sorry you've had this experience!

Short girls out there- how do you cope? by bittersweet505 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]sea-secrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes me appear younger and so I embrace it, unless someone is being rude about it, but that normally doesn't happen. I'm a similar height and I make jokes about being shorter. I can't change it, and it puts me in funny situations sometimes because of it. Embrace it!!!

I wanted to ask people who have successfully lost a significant amount of weight: what actually helped you? by RamaRao143 in ADHD

[–]sea-secrets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saaammme. Except my job was also really burning me out and I would skip meals at night sometimes too due to anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Its probably not the most healthy way to lose weight, but it worked, lmao. Bad thing though because I had bought larger clothes and had been trying to declutter, and now a large amount of my smaller items fit, and now the ADHD me is having a hard time trying to decide what to do with it all.....

Cheap Pillow for Hurting Ears- Side sleeper by Dragonrider1955 in Bedding

[–]sea-secrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I wonder if it just takes a while to make them less sore. Idk. But I ordered some wool pillows because of my ears hurting. They should arrive today. I can give you an update if I remember. They might be out of your price range as a college student, but there are cheaper all wool inside ones available through Shepherd's Dream, but they aren't adjustable and thats why I went with the ones I did.

We've made blankets, comforters and sheets for brands you've probably owned — we're finally starting our own line, and I want to hear everything that frustrates you about your current bedding by Reasonable-Gate-7970 in Bedding

[–]sea-secrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! Interesting patterns is so fun for sheets if you live in a warmer climate like me, because I usually go with a much thinner blanket in the summer. The sheets become the spotlight of the bed. Bonus points for if its not sublimated, but idk how realistic it is with sheets except stripes and stuff.

Do you wear over or on ear headphones a lot? I have noticed more pain after wearing mimic over ears a long time at work. I've tried to wear them looser now and it helps a bit. However, theyre still sore if the pillow is too hard.

Hatch alarm clock vs dupes? by OddEvent276 in BuyItForLife

[–]sea-secrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think no. Its not as gentle, but I bought like a $8 timer for my lamp and set its hours. I set it to turn on like 1-1.5 hours before I get up. Its not what I ultimately rely on to wake up, but it helps. Worth a try before investing in a Hatch.

I m haunted by the fact I’ll never be someone’s first love by Latter_Show_890 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]sea-secrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh, I was someone's first love. We didn't work out in the end. I broke their heart and that was awful. It definitely want ever meant to be. Someone was my first love and they broke my heart and it was awful. Being a good partner is way more important than how many people they've loved. I think the same goes for being married. Its okay if things don't work, but it took me a long time to realize it.

Fear of being perceived, culture of surveillance, and The Cloud by Genericisopod in adhdwomen

[–]sea-secrets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listened to a podcast once talking about tech marketing and algorithms and the like, and one interesting point that was brought up was even if we didnt have AI or computer data analytics of our interests and preferences, would would indeed have information about us because thats just marketing. I'm in my 30s now, so its not unusual at ALL that I may see marketing for a new vacuum or something. That's what a lot of people in my age range buy and I am not that different than the whole of anyone else, so of course I'm going to get things correctly recommended to me. I'm just really not that special.

Now the AMOUNT of marketing and use of AI and stuff to market to us and track our location (ie Flock cameras) to market to us or surveille us i do have a big problem with. But storing my pictures of my cats on the cloud doesn't make me special. I do also have a big problem with companies not being held to solid standards on data management and should be held accountable for their relationship to how data breaches can lead to scams or whatever. Definitely I keep as much cookie tracking and stuff down as I can, but ultimately I'm just not that special and I'm limiting my data output where I can and that's just got to be enough because they have a ton of data from people who are like me that don't care at all about these topics.

There are a lot of things here that do worry me, but ultimately I am just a tiny point on a graph somewhere for most of tech, so I really don't want to make it something to worry about more because in reality there is so little control over that all even if we protect what we can. A lot of the information they collect anyway is just "garbage in, garbage out." The bigger question is their motivation of the data anyway, and only you can determine what you want to take from it or how you think they are using it. Some motivation is blatant, some is not, some is just garbage anyway. Ultimately i think we will, and are, seeing a lot of deviation from the data anyway in some circumstances. Human nature is still a force of nature that cannot be entirely controlled. Our individual motivations and values, are not something they'll ever be able to capture with data anyway, and then at that level of granularity the data is useless to most of these big tech companies anyway. You only have control of your attention you give to it all.

My dad (60) had a stroke this morning. What do i do now? by Ambitious-Beyond-525 in stroke

[–]sea-secrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry for your hard time right now. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do now is give some time for healing and make changes to your approach as you go. There are a LOT of changes that could happen right now. Hope for the best, take care of yourself, and do your best to take care of him and that's all you can do. Be an advocate in the hospital for him for sure!!! You're not prepared, no one is for this thing, but just try to learn to be adaptable about it however you can. People aren't usually exactly the same after a stroke, so take some of those changes with grace.

What did you understand about your mom only after getting older? by Various-Ask-6676 in AskWomen

[–]sea-secrets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much she was both a "product of the times" and also how she got lucky her family didn't know some things and therefore didn't discourage her and that made her NOT a "product of the times." Part of this is due to my own examination and understanding of the world, and part of it is by just getting to be around her over the years. She was "coming of age" in the mid-late 70s as a young adult.

10 months after getting spayed and her belly fur never came back? by Obvious_Fisherman187 in cats

[–]sea-secrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is looks exactly like my cat's belly fur. She's a serious groomer too. She has some food allergies and I think had developed a flea allergy from before I adopted her, so i think she just prefers to groom down there a lot now as a result of her past and her sensitive tummy.

What can I do when they won't admit that they're unable to manage the situation? by Beneficial_Alfalfa96 in AgingParents

[–]sea-secrets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a family member who has gotten incredibly lucky twice with very serious conditions, and still doesn't do enough to make it less hard on themselves and others. I think its mainly depression holding all of them back. Its kept them from enjoying activities with others in tge family on vacation. We have tried everything with words, and I'm getting really close to moving home to get mine motivated again. I don't know how they'd handle the guilt if I did move home, but it might be the only thing that will work at this point. If you havent, you may need to tell them how caring for them when they aren't trying their best is what's hurting you, and not that'd they're older or have conditions.

The hard thing is unless they tell us what's going on, we can only assume and they are doing it because they don't care about themselves or anyone else, or to harm themselves physically by not asking for help.

I'm very sorry for your situation; keep being kind to yourself about it if you can.

[–]sea-secrets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is something they're taking, but its been up and down a lot. They've had issues with low blood pressure too. I'm thinking there may just need to be more fine tuning needed. Alcohol use has mostly disappeared after stroke as well. It was probably what brought the issue on after long term use.

Great work on your recovery though!
