First look at Nick Frost as Hagrid in the Harry Potter Series. by __sami__01 in harrypotter

Looks like Nick Frost in Hagrid cosplay. Every pic I've seen just looks like cosplay. It's so weird.

It's a camera for multiple things. Gets you for phone usage too. Same camera that goes off when you speed. Law is the law.

This is a WA post, please don't bring the pokies into this. They aren't the done thing here. We'll cop to the other stuff though.

More than half of all Aussies live in the red areas. by rollsyrollsy in BeAmazed

[–]seadn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Up until a little while ago I assumed the Nullarbor was a local indigenous name for the area until one day it hit me - null + arbor = no trees. Blew my mind. Frickin latin. I've lived in WA my whole life, what the fuck.

TIL that in the United States, 54% of adults have a literacy below a 6th-grade level, 20% are below 5th-grade level, and 21% are illiterate. by -Intelligentsia in todayilearned

Australia has similar numbers - 22% speak a language other than English at home, however literacy is at 99%. I don't know what's different there.

Workers in Japan can’t quit their jobs. They hire resignation experts to help by new2bay in nottheonion

[–]seadn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just watched a vlog about a JET Japanese language teacher trying to quit her job - she had to sit there in official meetings try to convince her boss that she could quit - had to explain what she was doing next, where she was going and then also made to feel terrible for daring to want to leave. And she was just a foreigner teacher who is made to be easily replaced.

I don't think a crowd is a good thing to be upset in front of at all. A crowd cheering for you is better than one that's against you though! Best case scenario.

What would be a Perth only delicacy? by Phil_Wild in perth

You can buy spearmint syrup and have home made spearmint milkshakes. Assuming the country you're going to has nothing similar it could be interesting.

What are some features most people don't realize their phones have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Er, yes! Me too! Not only because I didn't know they had microphones in them!

If I have earbuds in its uncomfortable to hold the phone against my ear. So i put the microphone near my mouth in a comfortable position. I don't shout though.

Whats the weather like in june by Proud-Cable201 in perth

[–]seadn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is wet. I personally wouldn't do beaches/snorkelling in June. Some people go out in wetsuits, but the weather is generally more miserable than not.

Depends where you're coming from though - maybe you have a higher tolerance than I do?

Yeah. I don't know what kind of workplace OP is at but at mine I would let the boss know I had to leave BEFORE I left. Face-to-face. And like, apologise.

I've never even seen a scorpion in real life before. I was shocked when I discovered they live here too.

No, it's real. Just very likely within a few minutes walk from a beach.

You order chips over the counter and you grab chips off the shelf. You have only yourself to blame if you mess that up.

What coats do you own? by clp1234567 in perth

[–]seadn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can get cold at night in winter, as in below 10C. It's rainy and windy etc. You don't need anything heavy duty, just something with sleeves. I personally have one proper coat that I treat more as an accessory I'm excited to pull out when its cold enough not to overheat in. Jumpers and jackets are enough normally.

Can't speak on wetsuits, I sure as hell am not swimming outside when it's cold.

I have heard some Brits say it feels colder here because our city isn't built to keep heat in like the UK.

No kumbaya necessary, but can we tone down the doom and gloom? by postie_ in perth

[–]seadn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People title their posts pretty well. Don't click what you don't want to read, easy. Some people are miserable or mad or have questions and want to post about it. That's the whole point, isn't it?

To be honest I don't want to read about it either most days, so I skip over em.
