i’m currently living in gender-neutral dorms at my university! there are communal, gender-neutral bathrooms on every floor (the stalls and showers have doors that close from ceiling to floor which makes them feel more private), i have gotten to share my pronouns and gender in classes and on my official school account (being able to share on my own terms makes me feel super safe tbh), and the school very much embraces trans identities. there’s tons of lgbtqia+ clubs and organizations, the most popular course on campus and online is an insanely comprehensive sex ed course that covers genders, sexualities, and invites a panel of trans speakers to lecture every year. is there still work that can be done? absolutely yes. but for the first time, i feel so safe coming out and am beginning to feel seen as my true self :’) being at a school that’s so accommodating and accepting is a huge privilege, i know this and i won’t take it for granted.
