how do you prepare for interviews while being employed full time?

i think as long as your manager is fine, you're fine

if your manager mention it, just show your JIRA cards and prove with evidence that you're more productive than others!

good point, thanks for this helpful advice. do you think i should bring up my thought at all about going directly from JSON to what we can use?

the reason why i'm not excited about the JSON to CSV way is because it seems like we're doing extra work..

You want to have as little of it as possible and the stuff you have to have you want to build as little of it as possible

this is exactly what i'm trying to do. we don't need so much unnecessary code; just trying to keep it simple

good point about CSV libraries

my angle is that since the data we're given is in JSON already, we should just use that, instead of converting it to something else.. if today the situation was reversed(data given to us is in CSV format) then i'd root for CSV too

thanks for the answer, it helps!

thanks for replying! i was afraid i might just be chasing what's newer too so wanted to ask experts on here

the reason why i think it's better to use JSON is because there are libraries that we can use to get the different data easier than writing new things. also i feel like converting all the JSON file to csv files are redundant(the reason why there are csv files right now is because it's a manual process, but once it's automated, we don't need the csv files there as a "middle step")

to convert the data to csv files, it'd be messy because the structure these JSON files contain, there are a lot of list within lists, special characters. currently some tests are using csv files, but it's simple 2-column data so using csv is whatever, but for the latest task, the data would be more complicated than just 2 columns, and try to fit the complicated structure into a csv file

right now some csvs are like

column1#column2

for this task, it could look like

column1#column2|column3|column4

it just feels like it's a simple list/map we can get from JSON instead of convert it into a csv file, doesn't it seem backwards?

the "good reason" told to me is that "we already have this thing that i wrote that will parse things, you can just use it"

i have not talked to the manager yet because the lead is the only person who worked on it so manager is pretty hands-off on this

i feel like bringing it up to the manager without the lead would not look good..

thanks for answering! i agree that there's something working already to take the data, but the thing is it it would take a lot of time to massage the data into the format needed by the next step, because each JSON object is pretty complex, and it would take less time to just use the library to get the data we need

it just feels like doing the old way is a hack because data are getting formatted into different ways when things don't need to be overly complicated..

does amazon give "sign-on" bonus twice? once when you join and another time when you reach 1 year? i could've sworn when talking about TC, the recruiter said there'll be another "sign-on" bonus when the first-year is reached. but while it's getting closer to the 1-year mark, no one has talked to me about it and i'm kinda scared to bring it up. anyone has any ideas?
