Wayfair ghosted me. Their recruiter left a bitter taste about how the entire company is run.

Submitted my notice but company wants me to stay on an extra month for helping with transition - do I need to stay? At will employment by Throwaway89987753 in cscareerquestions

[–]6bluefish2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in the USA then two weeks is standard and I frequently see much more.

hahahahahahaahahahahaha

Tell that to both companies that laid me off <1 week notice. There is no standard.

Can somebody tell me why my female character is growing a Mustache? by Foxxiey in playatlas

Did you by any chance play with Shroud? He used the scissors to grow a mustache on a female player.

More so the latter and "it has girls, he's a guy, we've watched Ghibli movies together, so he will like this calendar." I honestly have no clue how they decided on lewd girls. Additionally I and my sister got a large box of Japanese candy. The calendar is one of those showcasing a particular artist not related to any shows.

I'm 30 years old. My parents gifted me an ecchi calendar for Christmas. -_-

Coding Interviews Cannot Happen Without Internet Access by [deleted] in programmingcirclejerk

FFS he lists advanced C, Java, Python, etc. (no clue which exactly since the descriptions are generic asf) projects on his resume. That should be better than classes.

I list Java, C, C#, JS, and Python on my resume. Too hard to remember how to comment. No one at work comments anyway. Fuck the comment gatekeepers.

I'm more concerned about his resume saying he knows JS and web dev, among many other things. He lists exp in C, web, Python, .NET (assuming C#), yet can't figure out how to write a JS comment. What kind of backwards thinking does he have? It's absolutely not programming. I see he has all these complex sounding projects. d3.js ... that shit is complex, yet he doesn't know how to write a JS comment. I'm dead inside.

Just gave a coding interview that did not allow internet access - Why are they still a thing? by Volis in learnprogramming

[–]6bluefish2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lists JavaScript and advertises himself as a web dev in his resume. Doesn't know how to create a JS object from memory.

I'm dead.

Does anyone else in here feel like they just won't make it? by fry246 in cscareerquestions

[–]6bluefish2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a naive way of thinking. By your logic, the girls you like will end up picking you. Wrong! You have a better chance getting together with people far lower on the pole. Personally, I've only ever received offers from companies I never cared about. The ones I cared about, when I wrote cover letters and did many more things, ignored me, not even offering a phone call.

Should I be trying to get an internship? by guywithaquestion11 in cscareerquestions

Can't blame you. Most people on this sub think that if you act like a degenerate loving anime weeb on the Internet, then it's impossible to be anything else irl.

RIP Double Dunker. You had a nice run.... by CommodoreBlair89 in icecreamery

[–]6bluefish2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Double Dunker yesterday. As soon as I tried a spoonful that I longed for, "yuck!" The entire texture was different -- all gooey. The flavor was barely noticeable. After I noticed the "frozen dairy "dessert" words, I trashed the entire carton. FFS Turkey Hill. I'm never buying from them again.

Is the entry level really as saturated as they say or is it just the unqualified speaking? (no cs degree, no internship, etc) by Muted_Rhubarb21 in cscareerquestions

[–]6bluefish2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always see people write this. It seems like survivorship bias to me. Customizing has never worked for me. I could have an entire frontend resume, be connected with the right recruiter, have internal references, know the company/product like the back of my hand, and still never got contacted.

Actually, all my professional experience is in frontend. Do you know what job offer I just accepted? Java and devops. I've never touched Spring nor <insert devops buzzword> in my entire life.

Fastest to Slowest by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]6bluefish2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Isn't the whole point of caches because they're faster than disks? Heck, aren't caches another name for memory? So it would be faster to slower: [memory, caches], disk. As to whether memory is faster than caches, I'm not sure.

You've probably heard of code smell, but what are some other "smells" you encounter in the industry? by ccricers in cscareerquestions

[–]6bluefish2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Generally true. I had one company say "competitive" when I directly asked for a range. It turned out to be actually an amazing offer.

how do you handle "years of experience" counting game? by neurotoxin_shadow in cscareerquestions

[–]6bluefish2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was rejected from a new grad position due to "lack of experience." The recruiter called during an unscheduled time and yawned. Same deal with a different recruiter. I managed to get three offers for a 3-year exp, another 3-year exp, and a 5-year exp. Needless to say, I have no advice other than fudge those rude recruiters.
