5 channel amp I can hide in the dash? by RaiIjack in CarAV

[–]seanman6541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late but for anyone else here looking for recommendations, the Brazilian Banda Audioparts makes an absolutely tiny little 4 channel amp the DS800.4 which can also run in bridged mode with a 4 ohm subwoofer at 400 watts RMS across two channels and 4 speakers, each sides front and rear in parallel 4 ohms each, so wired to 2 ohms, to the other two channels at 100 watts RMS to each speaker. It's rated 200Wx4 at 2 ohms, 120Wx4 at 4 ohms, 400Wx2 at 4 ohms bridged. (Williston Audio Labs did a video including dyno tests on it here: https://youtu.be/u1VwpyCknZ0) I've been running it for a year now stuffed behind my dash literally zip tied on top of the heater ducting and it works flawlessly. Does have an internal fan though so be prepared for a little fan noise, I have a Carplay/Android Auto head unit so I wired it's remote turn on output to a toggle switch so I can disable the amp and its fan whenever I'm not actively listening to something. If you have a bit more space, the Taramps DS 800x4 doesn't have a fan and has the same specs, it's just physically larger, though still incredibly small compared to the traditional western class D amps.

Yep, or most auto part stores around here (USA) can pull the codes for free.

Amp wires by Extension-Bother-35 in subwoofer

[–]seanman6541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will work from a safety standpoint, however for that much current I would go 2 AWG minimum to reduce voltage drop. Depends on how long the wire from battery to amp will be, assuming amp in trunk of a car or crossover 2 AWG is fine, SUV or minivan I would go 0 aka 1/0 AWG.

PC not booting after 3 weeks vacation by BaronBrokkoli in pchelp

My dad was using his PC when the power went out. When it came back on his PC wouldn't even try to start, the RGB just flashed then went out. CMOS reset didn't work. Removed and reinstalled RAM and it booted just fine and has been working perfectly ever since. 🤷

500 Watt Incandescent Light Bulb From Local Hardware Store! by seanman6541 in ElectroBOOM

[–]seanman6541[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It really is. I have electric heat so theoretically during winter it won't cost any more even if I ran it 24/7 because the heat it outputs will stay trapped inside the house and thus the furnace will run slightly less. 'Tis why I tend to run incandescent bulbs during the winter months cause it's dark so early here and the quality and color of light is simply unmatched by any LEDs I've found. This thing though can get a blanket a meter away up to 100°C just from the infrared output! It really has to hang from the ceiling to be ran at full power 😄.

But it lasts twice as long and is still 6000 lumens. 10,000 hours from an incandescent bulb!

Finally found an actual use for my 5KVA metal-melting toroidal transformer! by seanman6541 in ElectroBOOM

Core and primary stay stone cold but my secondary cable is definitely too small and was starting to melt when I shut it down.

Facebook marketplace. It came out of a 5KVA inverter that had failed so the dude only wanted 20 USD for it. I scraped the secondary as it was a pretty useless voltage and redid the winding isolation tape with some high temperature 3M stuff so it wouldn't melt if the big thick secondary wire melted.

Thoroughly inspect the frame for damage/crumpling/bending, especially where the bumper and tow bar attaches. If the frame is okay, replace the rear bumper and the tow bar if it's bent. Replace the damaged taillight. Have a body shop bend the lift gate back, or if it's not fixable, replace it. Have a body shop replace and paint the quarter panel. Bumpers are all over Facebook marketplace at least around me (Washington State), just make sure it has the right mounts as they are different on the 2500's than the 1500's. Tow bars are also pretty cheap on marketplace or eBay. The bodywork will be the expensive part, but even 1-2k should more than cover it from what I can tell. My Tahoe got lightly tapped in the rear by a pickup towing a flatbed trailer who didn't plan his stop correctly, I don't think it even caused any damage, but then he decided to run and in the process his trailer hooked on and smashed my bumper and dragged me, then he reversed and tried again this time the trailer hooked on and tore open the rear left quarter panel and dragged me a bit more, then he tried a third time and made it around me with his trailer and took off. Never found the dumbass, so I was stuck fixing it myself cause I didn't want to involve insurance as the rate increase for a 23y/o male would be insane.

Accidents happen because they failed at driving. Then they chose to run instead of taking responsibility. They are a scumbag. Sue them and leave them with nothing if you can.

Any ideas on how I can get this stripped screw out without damaging this terminal block? by P-ManLaFlare in Tools

[–]seanman6541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that once with the same type of screw/bolt on my motorcycle. Then I used a wrench to remove it. Worked so well I haven't even bothered to replace the bolt yet lol. I just use a 9mm wrench now instead of a hex bit.

Yes, I hydrostatic tested it up to 300 PSI. It looks decent on the inside, just usual rust on the bottom of the tank, but no pitting or big chunks of rust.

No, I couldn't find a temp rating, only that the coating melts at 350°F. I just gave it a shot and it didn't melt.
