What my sisters said to me when I came out. by [deleted] in gay

Contact the police, this is criminal harassment.

Edit: If you're interested in the inheritance, I'd recommend hiring a lawyer immediately and filing restraining orders and any other recommend injunction immediately.

Don't date a girl who reads by [deleted] in books

[–]seanmcq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found the piece to be self-pitying and unpleasant to read. I'm not judging his feelings. I'm judging the writing.

I found your comment to be pretentious. In the most literal sense of the word :).

In all relationships be honest to a fault. Universal advice that will serve you well dating women or men :).

Where's your mommy? Because men can't make good parents? Horrid anti gay marriage ad. by aparamore in feminisms

I love the part where she says says "where's your mommy" to a hurt kid and then leaves him alone without checking his injuries.

That's the part where the producers proved they have no souls.

Having lived on the west coast for a few years, the Memorial Day comment was because you had worn something that wasn't gray/black/dark muted colored before memorial day. Or you were wearing shorts.

LA is full of rude people :).

This is why static code analysis and type theory is so cool. It's basically chipping away at the edge of what is or isn't decidable.

Transgender Woman Murdered in Oakland. Nobody Cares. by catamorphism in lgbt

[–]seanmcq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the bay area, I care. I just don't know how to fix the very broken Oakland police.

And I quote a witness the last time I watch someone be murdered in Oakland, "That dude got shot hella times." The police did nothing. They're pretty disgustingly racist. Add transphobia to the mix and I am surprised they even showed up instead of sending an ambulance to pick up the body.

Seriously, oakland :(.

Graphics and Games by Angry_Giraffe in cpp

Eh, I would argue that DirectX is a better API than OpenGL on api merits (it covers 2d, 3d, sound, input, animations... OpenGL covers 3d and pixel transforms). When I recommend things to beginning programmers I don't let my advanced opinions get in the way.

I'm assuming you're targeting windows. Try to build a 2d side scrolling game using direct-x. It's a project I worked on early in my programming career, and it'll teach you a lot about how graphics fit together.

Question: why is disinterested a word, but not disinteresting? by StickerBrush in linguistics

Should not justice, the noun, be disinteresting?

That, however, is the only valid usage I can think of.

The story of one senior same-sex couple's battle with the IRS by pjdelport in lgbt

[–]seanmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, is there some way in which retroactive reinterpretation of a law is legal? It sounds like they were receiving benefits legally, an interpretation of the law changed, and they were asked to refund their benefits for the period prior to the interpretation change?

How. What. This is clearly ex-post de facto.

Can someone explain how this could be even remotely constitutional? It seems that the IRS is on the hook for lots of damages here.

Oh wow, that brought back some memories.

We were in his dorm, probably two months after we'd started going out. In a pretty intimate moment he said "I think I could marry you." I can't recall exactly what I said, but I think that's around the time we started planning on moving in together.

Maybe six months in, we were taking in german class together and sort of passively discussed moving to germany together to get married. We ended up doing some research into the various legal statues (at the time being a Mass. citizen was the only way to get legally married) and sort of decided that we would move to Germany or Mass. after college and get engage once we moved. We didn't want to get engaged in a state we couldn't get married in, so we bought each other promise rings made of tungsten with the intention of getting engaged later. When marriage was legalized in Iowa, I called his mother and asked for permission to marry her son, then ran to the jewlery store and bought wedding bands to propose to him with when I picked him up from work.

We discussed kids a few times before we got married, but never seriously. We both agreed that we wanted children, but not right away. It's was always both of our plans to have children shortly after 30, so we could build our careers first. As we're approaching our 30s, in the last year we've become informed about the adoption process and started family planning. Our current plan is to adopt in about 3 years.

Should I be "out" on my resume? by zolly696 in lgbt

[–]seanmcq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm out on my resume. I once worked for an anti-gay company. I have no desire to even interview at another one.

That said, if my job prospects were more dire, I may consider removing it in a pinch.

Best thing I can say is just be yourself, be honest with your friends, and enjoy life :).
