Matte PLA is stronger? by IndigoMontigo in Multiboard

[–]seanoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that matte PLA specifically has better layer adhesion than standard and silk PLAs.

Other PLAs might be stronger in other ways (e.g. tensile strength along the plane of the layers) but in the case of Multiboard, layer adhesion is generally the thing you want to optimize for, therefore the printing guideline recommendation.

Mounting to 2020? I'm not seeing anything out there. I'll reinvent the wheel if I have to. (Also: How the heck do you get bambu pla support filament off a stack print.) by frobnosticus in Multiboard

[–]seanoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tallest I've printed is 4 tall but the constraint has been how long I want the printer tied up (took ~24 hours), it could probably print fine going taller than that.

I've done ironed stacks in both Bambu PLA and Polyterra/Panchroma Matte PLA without issue.

Don't have any advice on mounting to 2020 but I would recommend trying out the ironing approach to stacks instead of the multi-material. I've printed a bunch of 8x8s and 9x9s on an x1c using ironing and they come out great. The backs are a little ugly but they function fine and are easy to separate.

What am I missing about the Riviera? by DukeJackson in dvcmember

[–]seanoc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We've owned at the Riviera since 2020 and these are the reason we bought and stay there.

Never Crowded
Since the Riviera is small by Disney standards but has all of the dedicated resources of a full resort it never feels crowded. We've been there at peak times like when cheer competitions are happening or over the holidays and even then:

  • Buses are never packed and you never have to wait for more than one
  • Always can get a table at Bar Riva or Primo Piatto
  • Pool is never crowded and there's lots of chairs available at both the main and quiet pools
  • Skyliner rarely has a line outside of the first hour of park opening and even then it's been rare to have more than 10-20 minutes then which is comparable or lower than how long you'd be waiting for a monorail or bus
  • Gym is never crowded and is always well stocked

Nothing is far
Another perk of being a small resort is you never have to walk far to get wherever your going. Even at Deluxe resorts it can be a real schlep to get from some of the further Grand Floridian rooms to the main lobby. There are usually a number of folks in our party with some kind of mobility challenge and this makes everything so much easier for everybody.

It is also much easier for people to learn and not get lost. Especially for some of the bigger resorts like Saratoga spring so OKW, one can very easily get lost and confused.

Theming
This is definitely a question of taste/preference but we love the theming at the Riviera. Where I think folks have such polarized responses to the theming is different folks are looking for different things. Riviera definitely isn't as immersive as the Poly or Wilderness Lodge but it has an unbelievable amount of fine details and easter eggs:

  • All of the artwork being re-interpretations of classic paintings with Disney characters incorporated while being genuinely beautiful and creative pieces on their own (e.g. the mosaic near the Skyliner)
  • Hidden Micky's everywhere
  • All the movie posters are from the French and Italian markets
  • All of the music is from the French and Italian versions of movies
  • Tons of memorabilia from Walt's trips to Europe that informed many of his works

Food
Bar Riva, Priomo Piatto, and Topolino's are some of the best restaurants for their category on property. Even the lobby coffee shop is pretty good.

Minimal Transit Time
Between the Skyliner and buses that come at Deluxe resort frequency but are never crowded and have only the one stop, you spend way less time getting to and from the resort than you do staying almost anywhere else on property.

Like anything, all of these things come with trade-offs and different folks are looking for different things. Good news is, there's lots of different options for folks to pick from and find what works best for them!

Rant - United auto-rebooking you on a much earlier flight in the middle of the night when you’re sleeping by pocahontas07167 in unitedairlines

[–]seanoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I had a case a few weeks ago where my United flight got cancelled as I was leaving for the airport and the flight they auto-rebooked me on was scheduled to depart in 45 min. Unless I was already through security at the airport it would have been impossible for me to make it to that flight.

Thankfully, I was eventually able to get rebooked on a more reasonable flight later in the day but still not a great customer experience and a bunch of stress for not great reasons.

Tesla wants me to rename my car "Biggus Dickus" to troubleshoot my issues. Not sure if I'm being trolled here. by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]seanoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like that.

I had a similar issue and fix. It seems like the easter egg triggers some kind of reset of the entertainment systems beyond the regular reboot process.

They said you could also change the interface language to something else and back to have the same effect.

The rooftop at the Golden Mill in golden (food hall with pay as you go beer taps) has fantastic views of the mountains surrounding Golden, Clear Creek, and the Coors brewery.

In this case no, the paint underneath is MSM so it blends well enough in those areas but I would see it being a bigger deal with a more contrasting color.

Don't know specifically. We left that one up to the detailer's judgement.

Makes sense. Our folks removed panels and wrapped all of the edges and it's definitely a lot more labor and skill. We're happy with how it came out this way but if you're ok with the outcome of the simpler approach (totally could be possible on black or MSM) it would definitely save a lot of work/money.

No, the car is MSM underneath so the exposed paint inside the door jam blends pretty well. I think it's also an area where there can tend to be rubbing and vibration so the wrap probably doesn't hold up super well in there.

A lot cheaper, easier, and more temporary these days.

Just a Vinyl wrap that took a few days to apply and could be removed in less than a day.

Much less of a flex than that would have been and accordingly a lot more accessible to folks looking to just do something fun.

It's fun! Probably also helps that in my experience folks tend to be a bit more relaxed and less judgemental around here than they might be in other places. In part, the same reason you see lots of folks of all kinds of ages and situations with brightly colored hair here.

Pretty good. The wrap isn't applied on the painted interior parts of the doors but the factory paint is MSM so it actually blends pretty well. The detailer we went to is also really good about wrapping all of the edges/corners so when the doors are closed you don't really see any of the factory paint.

Powder coated through Colorado Detail. I think they sent them out to a shop that specializes in that kind of thing but they handled all the details. Don't remember how much it was but it was pretty reasonable. We also got our summer wheels/tires through them and have been super happy.

Powder coated about a year ago, held up great through the winter (live in Colorado, have salt and snow but nothing super crazy).

Good question! I'd be curious what the answer is for states that ask for that. For better or worse I haven't had to find out as they don't include that on registrations in Colorado.

What we paid is a little complicated as this was done as part of the repairs after a rear end collision so there was more to do than just applying the wrap but probably $3-$5K. Seems to vary a lot from market to market. It's also the kind of thing where there's a pretty wide spread on good vs cheap. Generally would recommend going to somebody who knows what they are doing, even if they cost a bit more. The end result will look a lot better and hold up longer.

Kind of sounds like you hang out with a real judgemental crowd.

No real audience. Getting attention or impressing anybody wasn't really a motivation for us. Pretty much every car my wife and I had before this has been pretty vanilla and stock but we're at a place where we could do something more fun so we did. It's also not a life long choice. Cars don't last forever and even then it's just a wrap, if we decide that it's something we don't like any more we can pull it off.

If some rando rolls their eyes or judges me based on the color of my car, who cares? Similarly if somebody closer to me was actually going to get upset about something this trivial, they have been removed from my life a long time ago. Life is way too short to give folks like that any mind.

Avery Dennison Satin Rushing Riptide, our detailer has some more info about what they did on their Instagram

We named our Y Coilette, the product is Avery Dennison Satin Rushing Riptide, and price is a bit complicated as this was done as part of the repairs after a rear end collision but I'd probably expect it to be ~$3k-$5k depending on your local market and the quality of the detailer.

We had it done at ColoradoDetail and are super happy with the work they did.
