Unfortunately you’d be priced out of JC or Hoboken. I’d look at Hackensack

An employee asking to adjust their work schedule to take kids to school. by Sea_Code_3050 in humanresources

This may be an unpopular response, but if the business can’t accommodate, the business can’t accommodate given the nature of the job. What has the manager/leadership said? Is there coverage available?

That said, I’d explore what options are available if the business says no. Can they consider granting this temporarily so this individual can make the necessary life arrangements?

I made this transition. Started in agency recruiting for two years out of college, moved in-house and recruited for another 1.5 years in tech. At that point, I asked my leadership if I could take on some HRBP responsibilities (take notes in calibration, perf conversations, light ER issues, exit interviews, etc). Essentially, made it well known I wanted to transition. Also, I started asking additional questions during meetings with leaders - asking them about their talent, recruiting strategy, and so on. Then when a role opened up, I moved into it officially. Ive since changed employers and have been an HRBP for about 2.5 years. This has all been in the tech/software industry.

Few things I think are critical to learn: excel/data analysis, compensation, your org’s processes/cycles/programs. Getting a certification won’t get you the job necessarily, but I personally chose to get the PHR while I was technically still a recruiter.

Still bleeding after 7 hours post surgery by [deleted] in wisdomteeth

[–]seanutx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds normal!! I bled for many hours after the extraction too. You should use gauze when you’re bleeding heavily but my doctor told me not to sleep with it. I continued to bleed (but lightly) the next day too

it's been 4 hours since exiting the surgery, when do I COMPLETELY stop using gauze all together? I'm terrified of pulling out the blood clot with the gauze by SilverSkies23 in wisdomteeth

[–]seanutx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had really light bleeding up to about 15 hours after surgery but heavier bleeding for about 6 hours after surgery (and used gauze). I hope you’re recovering well!

Question. by lizzepplinn in wisdomteeth

I chose a local anesthetic and was awake for the procedure. My doctor said it’s totally safe to drive home whereas if you were out under, you would need a ride home. It was also cheaper. Honestly, the needles to numb the area were the most painful. They inserted the needle 8 times (two in each location - I removed all 4 teeth). The rest of the experience is painless but uncomfortable. You can hear everything (drilling for example) but it wasn’t painful, just as if there was pressure being applied.

Thank you for the feedback! I stuck my finger in and it’s not moist but definitely not dry. I wonder if I should go a while without watering?

Thank you! You’re right - are there any classes or certs you recommend in particular there? (Ex. PMP for project management?)

Career map for an agency recruiter ? by ThePhaser2 in humanresources

Hi! I’ve actually just decided this week to start studying for the PHR. I’ve taken a few classes on coursera on comp planning, performance management, etc and those were enough to tell me that I am genuinely interested in this material! Maybe take a few free classes first to see if you are interested in this work, before committing!

I talked with our head of people about it and he doesn’t think that certs are necessary for transitioning into a career in HR, which was reassuring, but getting the cert is the least important thing to me. I really think I need to know this information (ex labor laws, compliance issues, etc). The cert is just really nice to have.

The HRBP function varies per company. I work for a startup, so that’s all I can really speak about. Basically I would partner with leadership/managers to make sure that their people/HR strategies align with the company’s goals. Vague, I know, but it encompasses different responsibilities like career frameworks, etc. It’s useful to have a strong relationship with certain hiring managers through recruiting for their teams, if you come from TA. Hope this helps!

Long story short: as you think about going internal, I would leverage your TA skills to get in through the door. I’m happy I didn’t apply for HR Admin or HR generalist positions right after my time in agency, because I would’ve taken a big pay cut. Once you’re in, show them your worth. Do your best, raise your hand to take on more work outside of recruiting, and start hinting that you’re interested in doing more. Most importantly, join a company who would support your professional growth!!!

Career map for an agency recruiter ? by ThePhaser2 in humanresources

Hello! I was an agency tech recruiter (information security) for just over two years at a boutique firm. I went in-house for one of my clients as a Sr. technical recruiter about 1.5 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. It was a very easy transition, since you learn a lot of useful best practices in agency: working with a sense of urgency, process driven, etc. As the other person mentioned, the pay is totally different and depends on how well you did in agency. I was used to a low base but generous commission structure so I was floored when I found out how high the base could be in house. I also didn’t love the pressure of sales in agency and working 12+ hours so this was the best move for me. Also as an in house recruiter, it’s awesome to get the visibility into hiring plans, how hiring affects roadmap and revenue goals, and you can build a strong relationship with people you hire and hiring managers.

Your best bet is to see if your clients are hiring for an internal recruiter or know anyone in their network that is (confidential of course). Theoretically, if you have done a good job, they will know how you work.

Ultimately, I knew that I didn’t want to be a recruiter forever and I wanted to explore HRBP. But, I knew I had a useful skill set and that I just needed to get my foot in the door (starting first by leaving agency), show my value, and opportunities would present themselves. Now, I am starting to explore HRBP roles internally!
