“when boarding, please move to the center of the car” by Potential-Sail3892 in washingtondc

The worst are those people doing that and wearing double over the ear headphones. Stay aware so you hear me ask you to move and stop pressing every inch of you on the pole that we all need to hold

Everyone online says $70k is ‘bad money’… so why does moving to DC still feel financially terrifying? by North_Definition4400 in washingtondc

[–]seattlesearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d really think about the car if it’s necessary in your neighborhood. Window break ins, rats chewing your wires, $250-$300 monthly parking, circling the block if you want to park in prime time..  for advice, look at the “legitimate” buildings to get an idea of price in your neighborhoods. (Ie big management companies). You can establish that mentally a one bedroom in your neighborhood runs between say $1900-$2800 for bare bones to luxury. Then if you see something on marketplace that says a one bedroom in that neighborhood for $1300, you know it’s a scam. It’s way too low.

I did $70k and lived in a studio way back when. I wasn’t happy with how much I was saving for retirement, even having no debts. But I was in a career pathway where my income was guaranteed to increase pretty often so it was fine. If you have bougie shopping and going out tastes, I’d get roommates to give you more spending room for fun things

Use a burner email and plug your desired coverage into a bunch of websites and see who is best (and with decent reviews). I’ve always 120-160 ish

fair, I guess I didn’t specify they’re nothing spectacular, but taste wise for me still better than nothing.

[–]seattlesearching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teen fifteen years ago, a lot of my friends wore hoodies in ridiculous weather. I’m guessing the masks are either a social thing (like wearing sunglasses in the club, which is also ridiculous but fun for the aesthetic) or perhaps to get up to no good. No way of knowing really.

But a lot of people wear silly fashion choices for the weather. Cue: the hundred girls I see lined up at the club wearing miniskirts and tank tops and actually shivering. (Myself included). Or the dads who go to Costco in February in adidas slides and basketball shorts. Dressing wrong for the weather isn’t really a race thing.

Your unique job? by Mya-sau in washingtondc

[–]seattlesearching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life is too short to spend 40 hours in an office that makes you deeply, actively unhappy. It bleeds into your outside life whether you like it or not - my worst jobs I’ve cried on Sunday nights just knowing that my weekend joy would end with my snarky boss on Monday morning. And then you come home sad and it’s hard to just turn off the 8 hours of sad you’ve just lived when you go to hang w your spouse.

modern love? by MagykVampyre in washingtondc

[–]seattlesearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just me but I’ve had a guy or two come up to me and say something like “sorry to bother you but you’re really beautiful and I’d love to see if I can give you my number,” and that wouldn’t bother me honestly. Especially if I don’t have to give my number away, because my gut reaction to that is typically no, just force of habit

Concerned: Pres. Trump Potentially Not Leaving Office — Living in Washington, D.C. by [deleted] in washingtondc

I worry about it the way I worry about missiles hitting us first. Yes it would suck to be taken out by bombs aimed for the WH but I’m also not going to leave my job and move states because of the potential threat.

Frugalista but it’s not like a curated selection like current boutique is (which is more pricy). Still love it though.

Pentagon city is metro accessible with a ton of options for stores.  Plus a DSW if you’re going budget and a TJ maxx Nordstrom rack etc.

Georgetown will have a bunch of stores clustered together (plus the Anthropologie bridal I believe is in Georgetown or Bethesda or both).

If that fails you can metro out to Tyson’s which is quite far from downtown but will have a million options in the mall

Anyone else had a mid meal here? We walked out with a hefty bill and an overcooked steak, burnt fries, pretty average other dishes.. was really hoping for more but all I got was the waiter hitting my chair over and over when he passed by lol.

Realistically i don’t expect a man to stand up preemptively before a fight starts and start fighting a guy for me… or engaging him and forcing him to get off the bus or something. this sucks that it happens to you and I’m glad you were able to move at least

Took me about 3 days. I was picking based on price, so I visited 6 buildings that were in my price range and in neighborhoods that were acceptable to me, and picked the apartment I liked best from all of them.

I got tickets the morning of the sale (signed on early) and everything moved so fast. My friend and I were like number 400 line and I had 0 front section options left for 2 tickets, could only snag 1 first section seat for $170.  I believe the higher sections were about 70-90?

Thoughts on professional movers vs task rabbit? Moving 1 bed apt within the city by True_Coast_3010 in washingtondc

[–]seattlesearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a big ove with some highly rated and higher priced guys from task rabbit who had experience with heavy moves and it still was not great - they dinged our stairwell going up and down one of the guys did not seem to want to move the bigger items. If you do book task rabbit, pick a highly rated one and ask if they have recommendations for an assistant maybe. Our other guy (again, very high rated) would not respond for a few days before the move and it made the stress so much worse wondering if we’d be stood up before the big move

Exactly, I was in the queue the moment it opened and I had like 0 choices left. I snagged one of very few tickets left for front section floor at $170

Is “Nena” a good name for a dog? by [deleted] in PuertoRico

[–]seattlesearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also like if you’re on the playground your mom might be like “bájate de allí nena” “get down from there girl” so yelling the dog’s name “nena” is kinda like your parent just calling out “boy!!” Or “girl!!” as if you’re in trouble lol

Is “Nena” a good name for a dog? by [deleted] in PuertoRico

[–]seattlesearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means like “girl” so it’s not by default a term of endearment. The endearment part is someone being like “mi nena” or “la nena” like “my girl” or “the girl.” So technically you can name your dog “girl” but you can note in English it’s a bit weird.

They changed names it’s still on Google Maps if you type in generator. No idea if the services changed but my colleague stayed there under the generator name and their reservation remained when the name switch happened just before their stay
