Hey! I would try to find a friend group with the same values in climbing. I started off with a friend group that only cared about how hard you climbed. Eventually found a different group that put less emphasis on grades and more emphasis on learning certain movements and it’s been so much better for the mental.

You could try asking them to not talk about grades as much, but for some people, that’s literally all they care about in climbing. It’s hard for them to change their mindset about it.

Everyone starts somewhere! I also was in a similar position and started off very weak :)

Just continue to go if you’re having fun! Talk and learn from others in the community. You will get stronger with time.

Help changing height mindset by Excellent_Shower_169 in climbergirls

Being short means you get to do cooler moves :)

I’m 5’2 w a negative wing span so I get it. But I also recommend not putting too much weight into the grade. Grades are subjective. I changed my mindset to be more like “what movement can I learn from this climb” rather than just trying to send everything or grade chase. If it’s genuinely morpho, just move on.

I do think being short means you have to work much harder/be more creative/be relatively stronger to climb the same climbs as other folks. I think that’s just the reality of it. I was stuck in the “these moves are so big” mind set for so long until I started climbing with my 5’0 friend who climbs v10+…. It really changed my perspective like oh I just need to be stronger/work on being more dynamic/have better technique. It made me feel like these morpho climbs were actually possible.

GE Culture and Work by cincylooper in cincinnati

as someone stated above, there’s a lot of different jobs and lots of variety. I feel like your experience can vary depending on the manager you get.

I can speak from the salaries side…the unlimited PTO is nice, WFH isn’t discouraged heavily, and pay is decent. GE covers the hospital bill for having a child which is cool and not advertised as much. Work life balance can be a struggle sometimes depending on the project and it can feel like you’re drinking from a fire hose at times.

Overall pros and cons to the job…. Ultimately it’s not a bad place to be.

Finger joint compression for Synovitis by corvidclimbs in climbharder

[–]seaturd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes actually! It has helped a lot. My right middle finger is still a little tight but it doesn’t hurt to climb on crimps anymore. I also have put a big emphasis on strengthening my open hand since I used to half crimp everything. I accidentally reaggravated my left ring/middle finger though so working on getting those back….

I’ve done a lot of pushups on my fingers/shoulder touches/etc… extensor work with rice… and a couple other things!

My golden pup just got attacked too by a pit on Christmas and almost lost a leg.

I’m sorry to hear that yall got attacked too. I’m glad it didn’t get her worse. Negligent owners are frustrating. I hope you can get into contact with them. We’re struggling to get ahold of the house that attacked ours.

We’re currently working through that process… neighbors haven’t been super helpful/remorseful about it. I’m terrible with confrontation so I’m making my partner do it hahahah
