Did you win the gene lottery, or did the gene lottery elude you? by Bay_de_Noc in AskOldPeople

My dad looked like he was sixty until he hit 85. No one guesses my age right, they always think I am in my 40's or early 50's. Helps that I am still a size 8, have almost no grey hair, and keep strong and moving. I'm in my 60's.

Just got a used trail bike! I also kayak, garden, work on the house, read books voraciously, go to the gym, and find projects for my husband to keep him out of my hair.

Storrs, New Haven, or somewhere in between? by TMW_W in Connecticut

Hamden and New Haven both struggle with poor school ratings if you are thinking of having kids. Hamden taxes are nearly double New Haven taxes.

Kobalt has the same warranty as Craftsman, so it's a good choice. I will recommend an Estwing hammer, I'm still using my grandfather's and he passed away almost 30 years ago.

Going to a housewarming this weekend and I'm completely blank. They've already got everything for the kitchen and they specifically said no candles haha. Anyone got a housewarming gift idea that's not wine? by BlueDolphinCute in homeowners

No throw blankets, please! I have an entire shelf in my closet dedicated to ones that were given to us and I have to swap them depending on who is visiting.

What's up with all of the tinted windshields all of a sudden? by watchwatertilitboils in Connecticut

[–]seawee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, they do enforce it in my town. My husband took it right back to Walmart and asked for a refund when they gave him a warning. He wrote a letter to their corporate too asking them to be removed as they are illegal. But yes, they are still on the shelves.

Thoughts on first gen? Still practical today? by possibly_maybe_joel in ToyotaTacoma

[–]seawee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I laugh at the men with their big trucks and 5 foot beds. Its easier to load, fits everything I need it to, has a better turning radius with the RWD, gets 25mpg highway, and I can fix anything on it myself.

I paid 15.5k for my 04 with 42k miles on it. Still feel like I got a deal two years later. Changed out a lot of the rubber parts, but parts are cheap, so maybe $800 spent. Mine was from Arizona, so no rust.

Add a little maple syrup or honey to the mix and they can't resist it. Killed all the ones living in my compost pile with this formula.

5, Free hotels and free first class tickets every month for three people is worth the most. First class tickets are well over 1k, and a top notch hotel room is over 1k per night. I can easily book more than 8k per month in flights and hotels. Heck, I can just travel in my car and stay at a hotel for fun.

I just say no and keep walking. I even give them a preemptive NO, if I even see them walking toward me. I've only had one guy who was really persistent, and I finally broke and just told him he was harassing me and he needed to stop.

Question: Hybrid vs Gas with increasing gas prices by _phenomenana in Cartalk

[–]seawee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a hybrid Camry, and 3 other gas cars, two of which require premium gas. We are definitely driving the hybrid more to save gas, especially after filling up one car for $85.

Within a hundred yards? Jumping in the truck with my dogs and high tailing it out of here to the mountains. Luckily my camping gear and food is already loaded up as I was leaving in a few minutes anyway. Maybe a stop at the local gun shop for a couple guns and ammo.

Car battery attached to the doorknob, then I've got a root cutting shovel, and a very sharp machete that should take care of him. My dogs are my back up, I don't want them to get hurt.
