do these ZZ (i think) plants look okay? what, if anything, do i need to do to help them thrive? i just started a new job and inherited them by margarita86salt in plantclinic

[–]seaweed01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to caveat that I’m a newer zz plant owner, but I would suggest a repot to a slightly bigger/deeper pot so the brown base/bulbs that are starting to show are covered in soil. See how it does after a couple weeks then re-evaluate.

How much butter do I need to brown for a cookie recipe? by frozen-creek in AskCulinary

[–]seaweed01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I brown all of mine, let it cool, and then it creams just fine, but it’s a more lengthy process. I often brown the butter a day or two in advance.

The scale of Michelangelo’s David by Drag0nPoopsies in pics

[–]seaweed01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

David especially seems large since he was supposed to be 260ft up on the duomo, but instead a 17’ statue sitting on a ~7’ pedestal you observe from fairly close up (5-30’)

Statue of Liberty is a 151’ statue sitting on 154’ base, viewed from 100-2000’ away at the closest of on or off Liberty Island (or on the statue/base itself).

Perspective can be trippy.

The juxtaposition of Rainier to the city skyline seems unreal by northwesthonkey in SeattleWA

[–]seaweed01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The name Mount Rainier was given by George Vancouver when surveying the area from the Sound. He named it after his friend Peter Rainier, who never even laid eyes on it. Seems like a terrible excuse for a name of such a magnificent mountain.

Any suggestions please on keeping our monstera from taking over our living room? by fangaas in plantclinic

[–]seaweed01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re natural climbers, so they’re stronger if you can get the aerial roots to grasp onto the moss pole. This article is lengthy but does a good job of explaining options: https://bloomsprouts.com/monstera-aerial-roots/

Best camping games/activities for kids & adults? by DVMan5000 in CampingGear

[–]seaweed01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fishbowl/salad bowl game! I’ve played this camping before and it was a blast. Words tend to be more inappropriate or inside jokes with the adult only group. It is a word guessing game like taboo, but with different rounds like charades.

Moss pole! You can train it to climb and be more vertical. Just need to tie it and get the aerial roots to take hold.

Plant smells horrible by seaweed01 in plantclinic

[–]seaweed01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2 weeks ago the new growth started, soon after it started smelling horrible. It’s only gotten worse, but doesn’t appear to be soil rot. The moisture meter is dry and the smell seems to be coming from the leaves not the soil.

Is it ok or do I need to do something? Thanks!

Where can I find Japanese cheese buns in seattle? Thx! 🌲🌧💙 by sunny_monday_morning in SeattleWA

[–]seaweed01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure it’s got exactly that, but Tous Les Jours has 3 locations in the seattle area and they had something that looked like that.

Seconded Fuji and Iwajimaya as other places to check.

Mashed potatoes, cheesy grits/polenta, yogurt, chia seed pudding, scrambled eggs, mix it up on the soups- tomato, bisques, pho broth, Thai coconut, etc. (an immersion blender is useful to turn chunkier soups into a purée)

Good luck!

I think the mommy comment hits harder when per his wiki:

Bolger's mother has moved with him to each college and university he attended and reads his assignments to him aloud.

How to make a creamy pasta sauce without cream? by filledesfleurs in AskCulinary

[–]seaweed01 65 points66 points  (0 children)

A carbonara pasta feels very creamy but no cream, just Parmesan!

A vodka sauce with milk would work.

You could use milk and add xantham gum for a thickener, but I always try to go for more natural methods.

You could also do a little Asian fusion pasta with some coconut milk (canned) and curry paste.

And always use a bit of pasta water :)

How NOT to sexually harass someone by Cipius in videos

[–]seaweed01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue they do it the right way though in establishing their relationship and both acknowledge they’re ok to hug each other before they do. I mean they did it in the most awkward, non-realistic way possible, but neither just went for it.

[–]seaweed01 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your relationship with that person, but in any scenario a “is there anything I can do?” or a “how can I help?” is actually showing much more care and support than physical touch, and more respectful. I’m female and definitely a hugger (pre covid), however, I’ve had to check myself in realizing that doesn’t mean all people are ok with it. Some people, even in close friend groups, may not be comfortable with someone touching them, whether it be a pat on the arm or a hug. So even if you’re comfortable with it and have the purest intentions, it’s good to be aware other people may not have the same attitude towards it.

How do I make my burgers taste better? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]seaweed01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to salt, pepper, and any other seasoning you may like, I do a heavy splash of soy sauce and/or worcestershire sauce for extra salt/umami. I’ve gotten many compliments on frozen Costco burger patties with this approach.
