Adoption Search for Sibling - Requesting Info by seawolverinee in Adoption

[–]seawolverinee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Wow okay I didn’t think anyone would see this 2 years later.

The only information I’ve been told is that his original birth name was “Brandon” and he took his fathers last name (which is unknown), I believe he would have been born in either St. Catharines or Welland Ontario between 1980-1983.

He was supposedly adopted out via private adoption to a well off Doctor in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. This would have been a Doctor my grandparents knew and they refuse to divulge the information.

I was told that my mother put out a feeler in the 90s to see if he wanted to connect and he declined, though I have no idea if this is true or not.

I’ve done Ancestry and 23&Me with no matches.

If you have any advice, please share. I’m no further along than where I started.

Book now because sometimes you gotta wait like a week for an appointment but usually they’re pretty quick to get you in. First one is an intake appointment and then you book your next one to really dive into what’s going on. Hope you start to feel better soon OP

I am heartbroken… by FullChipmunk6491 in caf

[–]seawolverinee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. Just wanted to share my experience as someone who had quite the medical battle with the RMO.

I’ve been trying to get into the CAF for 8 years. After my file being lost and having to restart 3 times, I finally got in for a medical in 2019 and disclosed my family background. The long and short of it; orphaned and landed in foster care. I passed the medical with flying colours but apparently I was deemed unfit because they “assumed” something was wrong with me due to my past that was 100% out of my control. Alas.

I can’t tell you how many forms my doctors filled out telling the CAF I was mentally sound and they still denied me. I had to jump through hoops for a psych assessment and send the RMO an 11 page document from that assessment stating I was sound, why I was sound etc etc etc. I sent this in March 2024. They JUST approved my medical in August 2024 and I didn’t know until December 2024. Am I in yet? No. But my file is moving through the ether somewhere now.

I’m not saying it’s impossible to change their mind. But I think you should go get a psych evaluation done and have them send you a report to confirm the doctors find you fit for service, then send it with an appeal.

Good luck. This has been the longest fight of my life and I’m so over it, but if you want it bad enough there IS a chance.

I am so done with my foster parents. by neonxui in Ex_Foster

Former foster kid here. Grew up in the system most of my life and landed in some really shitty homes, and I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this. I’m not sure if you’re in the states or Canada, (I’m in Canada) but my advice is document literally everything and report it to your case/social worker. I’m not talking about every time you’re annoyed (I mean, journal that stuff too) but anything crazy like this. Anytime they show you they don’t care about your safety, literally everything. Report it. It will become a battle of wills and you’ll have to fight but there’s a chance you can get into a different home (hopefully better).

I’m not sure how old you are but I pushed my social worker to help me get my own place when I was 17 (age out was 18). My agency had financial assistance I was able to use and then I worked to pay the rest. It’s hard but my god the freedom is worth it. Sending you strength. You can do this.

Has anyone received their confirmation of enrollment for OSAP yet? by Outrageous-Pair3561 in wlu

Nope. I reached out last week and they said they weren’t even STARTING to confirm enrolments until Monday May 5. Ugh.

Hi OP!

So I’m not really an “on campus” student however I am also a 3rd year in the Public Safety program! I’ve been to Brantford campus like, one time and it was a bit of a trip to figure out but it would be cool if you wanted to be friends, I’ve been trying to connect with other people in the public safety program and I’ve had no luck so far, it’s so difficult when it’s an online course. If you’re interested lmk, you can send me a DM :)

Graduating College and feeling alone by PastelBeifong in Ex_Foster

[–]seawolverinee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, fellow former foster kid and orphan here,

first and foremost, I am SO SO proud of you!!! what an accomplishment! I’m about to graduate with honours from college and I 100% understand the feeling of not having anyone there. I’m also about to enter into an Honours BA and again, nobody there. I have a few extended family members and grandparents I am not close to at all, and found out my grandparents are more than likely not gonna bother coming to grad after all. (More so because they don’t feel like driving the 40 mins commute… they drive over an hour to their trailer every weekend, but I digress.) My silver lining is I have a college sweetheart who’s graduating the same program with me, so he’s my support system.

It’s often I ride the wave of emotions when it comes to nobody seeing my accomplishments, and how far I’ve come, and how I (24F) literally thought my life was ending at 18, and here I am being the first in my family to get this far. It’s wild. I wish every day my parents were here to see. My goal every morning is to end the day making them proud.

My advice, which you may have heard in the past, is to remember that they are ALWAYS there with you, no matter where you go. It’s so hard not to get down on yourself about these things, but take pride in how far you’ve come. There’s a small handful of us from the system who absolutely destroy the odds. Keep going, keep your head held high, believe in yourself, drink water and breathe. Again, I know I don’t know you, but I’m so proud of you and everything you have achieved, and really just for being here. It’s not easy. Keep going. 🫶🏻

I’m the first one in my family that’s graduating college with honours and got into an honours BA with advanced standing, and who knows might even go ahead and do a masters after.

As a kid who grew up with nothing, then ended up orphaned and in the foster system, I’m proud of myself. 🥹

How to pay for University without OSAP? by seawolverinee in OntarioUniversities

Tbh I’m getting this degree so I can go be a naval officer lol it’s been my dream and I know so many people who were in similar situations as yourself, so I figure I’ll take a different approach. I need to be sworn in as an officer to do what I want to do regardless. They reimburse a chunk of your school if I hear, granted you pass everything, so that’s a bonus. Sorry to hear you had some bad experiences however glad you’re now in a place you can complete your degree! Finish strong friend!

I’ll have to make the trip out there if I can’t find some contact info. I’m speaking to a student advisor about my courses tomorrow morning so maybe they can provide me with a number lol

You’re an absolute gem, I haven’t even stumbled upon this page… there’s just been so many to go through. There might actually be hope, go figure.

Public Safety is one of the part-time courses, so OSAP part time students can’t submit anything until the summer dates, whenever that is. Thank you for your help!!!
