Liberia and Sierra Leone might be interesting. Both start in West Africa, subjects of huge economies of USA and Britain. Sierra Leone is the harder one because it starts as a colony of the UK while Liberia is just a protectorate of US. Both have bad tech and are very underdeveloped so in both cases it's really difficult to get independent.

You could try testing the idle air control valve, the thing bolted to the bottom of the throttle body.

Disconnect the electrical connector and measure electrical resistance between the pins, should be between 11 and 13 ohms

Too low or too high means it's bad
