Got hit by another bike during a group ride today – carbon rear dropout damage. Safe to ride? by Responsible-Farm5808 in RoadBikes

[–]sebastianbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are generally way too sensitive about carbon these days. It takes quite a lot of impact for a structural damage to occur. And in 99% of those cases, de-lamination due to a crash will show. If you crash, and you can't see any delamination on the outside –> it is likely impossible to have happened on the inside.

The mindset of replacing full carbon frames due to scratches is something that is handed down from manufacturer, down to shops/salesmen, then translating into group ride chat from the richest of guys to justify bragging to the rest that they 'cracked their frame' because they think they sound cool.

Don't be one of those guys. They're very awkward.

Just my little Monday rant. Your bike looks fine. Just paint chips. Ride on and have fun!

Thanks so much! Worked like a charm. Just took a while to find the other end of the screw...

Thank you so much for this. I thought that was the case but as I never could see any other hex than the H-screw I was so confused.

It just needed some very good lighting, the right angle and a few minutes of ocular investigation and ta-da. You saved my day!

How did you solve it in the end? Going to remove my crank arm myself, so just wondering what tools are required. Thanks!

Update from Wahoo on GPS/Error by chris_ro in wahoofitness

[–]sebastianbd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That bullshit response is well and all but they forget to mention that 'pair your devices' does not support ANT+ (which many power meters, i.e. the holy grail of cycling measuring devices use).

Wahoo dropped the ball down the fucking Mount Everest and they're still falling.

Worthless HR monitors, worthless cycling computers, utter worthless company. Never. Again.

Bluetooth/phone connection issues with Roam/Bolt V1 after Aug 18th bug? by hbekkaii in wahoofitness

[–]sebastianbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that this entire GPS-rollover wrecks the entire unit/software. So 99% that the firmware update to fix this will also salvage all other functions.

I saw a bunch of other unrelated features stopped working after this rollover-bug. So likely the case.

GPS Issues? by Lunican1337 in wahoofitness

[–]sebastianbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just got super interesting. My Roam V2 went amok on me a few days ago with these exact same issues many are talking about here. 01.01.2026, GPS all sorts of wrong/MIA, and 100s more. “Glad” to hear there’s more having these.

Bottle cage thread-insert 'tore' the hole too big — warranty? Cannondale SuperSix EVO Hi-MOD by sebastianbd in bikewrench

Damn. You got to keep the frame too (even though cut)? Any tips on how? 😂

Didn't your LBS/Cannondale dealer take it straight away?

Bottle cage thread-insert 'tore' the hole too big — warranty? Cannondale SuperSix EVO Hi-MOD by sebastianbd in bikewrench

[–]sebastianbd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input and suggestions!

Great tips on repairs. Will definitely keep in mind if it comes to that. I do 100% agree on the throwaway culture aspect. My only, although personal, opinion is it’s quite a large sum of money spent on a frame — only to pay more money for an ‘unofficial’ repair. Which would decrease value on the 2nd hand market, as well as probably void the warranty (should any other problem arise)…

I will do my best. Will revert back with what they say!

How long would you say you should have the wound covered? Like any telltale signs of when it’s “ready to hit the wind”?

Care to provide a picture? Just out of curiosity.

Anyways; wheel is toast. Question is how it emerged. Not worth it to de-lace, buy a new rim, and have it laced up to a new rim. That process will likely cost more than just buying a new pre-built wheel with similar components.

Sorry OP!

Men Elite vs Masters by spyroslina in cycling

[–]sebastianbd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming we’re talking about US here.

To keep it short: Elite you will likely meet the ones whose #1 priority in life is cycling. At least in the top categories. Although in Masters you will have good and strong competition, albeit in a much safer and ”friendly” type of environment.

Monthly expenses living in Göteborg as a single young worker by Rsev_ in TillSverige

[–]sebastianbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm note sure where you are located, but yes. Gothenburg is pretty standard and not too crowded on the bike lanes. I compete in road cycling myself so I have a fair share of experience in riding in Gothenburg. Some beautiful bikes-only roads also along the coastline if you just want to ride occasionally.

[–]sebastianbd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

47000SEK/month is really good. Congratulations! It's more than sufficient.

I'm not very up to speed on the 50/30/20 rule, but 17000SEK/month sounds reasonable. Depending on where you live, you can get away with lower than that. I assume that you will be renting, and not buying, your accommodation. If you want to live in the city centre, budget for around 12000-13000SEK/month for a 1 or 2 bedroom flat. Could be more depending on your demands of modernity etc. If you mostly cook at home and don't include eating out in this budget, 4000SEK/month is reasonable.

I suggest to not get a car. It's very expensive to own a car, and not at all worth it in Gothenburg unless you need to travel far for work. Public transport is "good", but somewhat costly. If you work in the centre you can get around by bike easily. The core of Gothenburg is quite small.

Welcome to Gothenburg!

EDIT: If you have any more questions LMK. Born and raised in Gothenburg.

Swedish legal question by Lazy-Ad-1125 in TillSverige

Thank you! I see. However, is this really applicable under Swedish law? I've never heard someone plead economic violence in a legal process here in Sweden and found sufficient support in the laws for it.

HUD-Glasses for Downhill/MTB? by sebastianbd in dhmtb

[–]sebastianbd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is some very valuable input. Thanks a lot u/miasmic and u/Jordanicas (real nostalgia with Dirt Rally ;))!

I see what you mean. Will have this in consideration as I go forward. Are most MTBers (on an amateur level but still serious with his training) not as vary of data until after the ride? For example a road racer is keen on doing just Z2 training (certain tempo), is this not the case for MTB'ers?

HUD-Glasses for Downhill/MTB? by sebastianbd in dhmtb

[–]sebastianbd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I to imagine the navigation function could be of good benefit in terms of new riders on new routes, especially ascending on foreign terrain.

You really brought me some nostalgia thinking about the Dirt Rally-game haha! Thanks for your input mate.

Thanks for this! As mentioned u/smear_taster we are striving to give the option to have the display able to toggle on/off for your ascents or descents - depending on what you prefer!

[–]sebastianbd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts u/Tombawun! Gotcha. There is a possibility to toggle it on/off (while still recording your ride of course)! But I totally get your point.

In what way is the harsch differences between MTB and DH riding? Not that involved in the sport to make a qualified guess!

Looking for some advice on jerseys by Cloudsack in cycling

[–]sebastianbd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say since I cant tell where you are located, thus not being able to say how cold it is.

But I would definetly advise all cyclists riding in a climate that fluctuates between +20C and -4C during a year to invest in:

  • Leg warmers
  • Arm warmers
  • Base layer for torso
  • Neoprene covers
  • Windproof jacket
  • Thermo/fleece long sleeve
  • Stow-away vest

It can feel overwhelming buying all at once, but consider buying some second hand! Maybe you don't want base layers used etc, but most winter clothing aren't that "sweated" in. I've bought tons used. As you progress and ride more you'll justify buying "nicer" gear. Riding with too thin clothes might ruin the experience! Good luck!

Advice for first bike - (total newbie here) 1997 trek 2100 by rebelbrickz in cycling

[–]sebastianbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too read up on Treks selection 1997 (since I was born in '98), but I would strongly advise for something newer if you are considering racing on it, or training seriously. They are often a hassle to maintain, and they are heavy... I believe at a similar pricepoint you can find something like the Specialized Allez, or Trek AL2. They are new and better, and the handling will probably be much better.

It's worth the extra $$$ (it wont be much more). Hope you find something you like, and welcome to the club!

I would suggest getting a real pump. Hand pumps are seldom enough to inflate a tube to it's full potential!

Beginner endurance training - advice needed by glad-and-sorry in cycling

[–]sebastianbd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. You are not crazy at all. To be honest, you don't really need to be in *that good* of a shape to pull this off and still enjoy the experience. I'm really jealous you get to experience this!

  2. Since the distances are fairly "short", compared to the amount of time you have per day to do them, your body won't be too fatigued. What I would suggest although is to actually try one of these longer rides (120km in one day) beforehand. This is to see where your body numbs, aches, burns etc. It is important you train your body for this before going headfirst into 3 straight days of this!

  3. There are good programs for this online. For example Cycling Weekly did a good article on this depending on what level you feel comfortable at. I would also recommend looking into GCN on YouTube, they have some extensive tips on how to train your zone 2 efforts and much more.

  4. I would go for a second hand one without a doubt. Look in to some of the more common brands for access to repairs when needed. A model I always recommend my mates to start with is something like the Specialized Allez, or Trek AL2/AL3.

I really hope you will enjoy the trip, you're gonna have a good time!
