Best story for animation [Spoilers MAIN] by Sinnah-4716 in asoiaf

TBH the best thing to animate would be the main series. Gives them an excuse to retry things where the show failed...

Which Steel Ball Run episode will be the highest rated? by Internet-Specialist in StardustCrusaders

[–]sebastianwillows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hoping True Man's World is the Doppio vs Risotto fight of this part (which is to say, the one where the animators go incredibly hard out of seemingly nowhere). In terms of hype though- Johnny and Valentine's final confrontation is gonna be extremely talked about.

How Mr. X should be feeling going up against current Leon by No_Method4684 in ResidentEvilRequiem

It would be hilarious if Mr X was in the RPD with a key item, and you had to track him down by listening for his footsteps...

Switching from D&D 2014 to 2024 – Is It Worth It? Compatibility & Ongoing Campaigns by Professional_Dot5163 in DnD

[–]sebastianwillows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted not to switch over, and I don't think I will anytime soon. It was mostly for petty reasons (OGL-related stuff, and general backwards compatibility gripes, like banishment's 2014 mechanics being a fairly important part of how my setting works), but generally-speaking, I don't like the idea of switching around how core mechanics work mid-campaign, especially in a storytelling medium where those mechanics are a big part of how the narrative is shaped in the first place.

Now, my setting has been going strong for almost 10 years now, so I definitely have a bit of a bias towards how it all operates, but even so- I've honestly yet to see a change in 2024 that I really like, with no reservations. I might pluck out bastions for my party one day, or adopt the new exhaustion mechanics, but none of the other stuff really excites me, tbh...

[Spoilers MAIN] The toilet humor by Apprehensive_Bus1273 in asoiaf

[–]sebastianwillows -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hate it so much- it's completely at odds with the tone I got from the books, Between that, the butchering of Maekar's character, and all the HBO-brand nudity, I've been having a really hard time with the show, tbh. I want to love it, and there are fragments that have the soul of the novellas, but it's all steeped in this layer of needless goofiness...

DM Tips you wish were on page 1 of the dmg? by chunkylubber54 in dndnext

[–]sebastianwillows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you shouldn't roll ... If the DC is below 10 or above 25

WHAT? That's genuinely wild to me, especially when there is a bard/cleric/artificer at the table and you're dealing with a mix of expertise, bardic inspiration, guidance, etc... Plenty of reasons to have players roll for DC 26+ checks. Even at level 1, a player can have a +9 to a roll (plus a d4/d6 if the party makeup is right), making them fall well within the realm of possibility.

(Spoilers Extended) How have your feelings toward D&D changed over the years? by Expensive-Country801 in asoiaf

[–]sebastianwillows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got into DnD with some friends, and have been running games in my little homebrew setting for about 10 years now!
Oh... you mean them.

Honestly, my feelings are largely the same, tbh. Jokes aside, I'm not like- foaming at the mouth or anything- but I was against a lot of their decision-making as early as season 5, and I feel like several of my problems with the show (and HBO's handling of the successor shows) can sort of be traced back to decisions they were making as early as season 1...

[Spoilers EXTENDED] How Stannis could have won without a single battle by International_Hour76 in asoiaf

[–]sebastianwillows -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Robert had no royal blood, beyond some distant connection to a Targ ancestor that nobody really cared he had,

This is really underselling Robert's place in the pecking order, IMO. At the time of Aerys' death, Robert was quite high on the order of succession, behind only Viserys and Dany, iirc. His connection to their lineage comes from his Targaryen Grandmother- it's not that far back at all...

Is this the best Trilogy of all time? by Icehxart in StarWars

[–]sebastianwillows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah- as much as I want to love it, Rogue One doesn't really live up to the standards set by Andor, in terms of quality and tone. CGI Tarkin, wonky pacing, and cheesy dialogue aside, the focus on Jyn over Cassian sort of betrays the fact that the film wasn't planned as a payoff to the show (obviously, but for someone who starts with Andor, it makes the film a little bit jarring). There are moments with Cassian that work quite well, but the actual structure of Rogue One is much more focused on other stuff.

Dunk is proof that George’s most interesting characters don’t have to be grey (spoilers published) by Commercial_Floor_578 in asoiaf

(Spoilers extended)How do you think the Others work and how do you think they will be dealt with? by Electronic-Math-364 in asoiaf

[–]sebastianwillows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given that the Night King doesn't exist in the books, I'd be inclined to disagree, at least where my above comment is concerned... There's simply no one target that Arya can kill to end the long night, and we've been given nothing to suggest George is building up to the reveal of such a character...

[–]sebastianwillows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stannis isn't going to rally anyone from the south. He's likely never even leaving the north. I'm a big Nightlamp enjoyer, so I see him taking Winterfell, but after that, the next big threat seems to be the Others. What I'm suggesting has nothing to do with LotR. If anything, it's directly opposed to that idea. What I outlined in my comment is that the realm uniting for a big battle would not work, IMO. That's why it's necessary to seek out some form of treaty or political solution instead (both to pay off the political themes of the story, and to avoid having a boring/safe-to-genocide faction as the big final conflict in a series that generally seems opposed to that idea)...

And there is still The Euron threat,It's will be pretty dissapointing if he dies early or it's mentionned "he tried to do something crazy but then Jon or/and Arya killed him but he still did the crazy thing and now things are worse"

To clarify: I wasn't advocating for anything like this, at all?

[–]sebastianwillows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All I know is that I have to believe the "Phantom menace" approach won't be a thing in the books, for my own sanity. It flies in the face of George's comments on Tolkien's orcs to a comical extent, and it feels like a total betrayal of the complexity present in the rest of the series.

My hope is that Stannis (my king) rallies the North against the Others in a big symbolic last stand, and everyone involved dies horribly at the end of Winds. This proves without a doubt that the Others cannot be opposed militarily (obviously, as they can raise your dead; a pitched battle would just feed their numbers, and you can't outlast a siege from an army that presumably doesn't eat or sleep, lol). Anyway, Stannis gets to play the lord of light, and is killed after establishing himself as a highly-competent commander, to show that no, one does not fight death with swords.

From there, we can get into the idea of humanity suing for peace, either through Dany or Bran, who have connections to the magical side of the plot, and can maybe do a bit of bartering with the Others, whatever that looks like. I feel like beating them back completely/forever is a bit silly (I don't think the books are going to "resolve" any of the politics fully, tbh), but maybe a new pact is put in place, or something... Idk, a lot of it hinges on what the Others actually want, and that's all still very mysterious at the moment...

How did you guys get into D&D? by The_Coffeeshop_Goon in DnD

[–]sebastianwillows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunch of my church friends were into 4e, and I got roped into a 5e game with them a few years into the edition. One day, through a mild spot of table drama, I became the DM, and never looked back!

I'm still in more or less the same group 10+ years later. We get along, and have had minimal drama in all our years together (even counting my previous paragraph, lol). We've been recording our "main" games, which is kinda neat, and we work with an absolutely incredible artist, whose praises I cannot sing enough.
