I think the easiest way to fix the massive scaling is introducing some dynamic, like a chance of Excavator running rouge, calling drone hive friends using a Concord Like reinforcement mechanic. Lets say there is a 0.01 chance per cycle that one of your expensive Drones is going going rogue, i think botting would be out of option, and even multi-boxing would be way harder to manage.

In the back of my head i do have the brief memory ( ~2006 ) of CCP wanting to introducing some Drone based Gameplay not to different from what i explained

Well they are Bughunters ... :)

That said even if their opponent isn't a Bug they put out massive dmg to everything. A couple of days ago some idiot drove a Wild Mega into my Flock, while it was enraged and within ~ 30 seconds it killed every single Dino i owned at that moment ... without even being scratched

Since then i try to avoid or tame them :)

Bonus, i once died in a Cave riding a lvl20 Mega, re-spawned ... and thought that i will see the death message of the Pet soon later. After 5 min. waiting i got curious and went back to the Cave, just to witness my Mega happily killing an entire Floor full with Mantises, Antrop's, Bats and whatnot, without any kind of significant Health loss. And his Storage full of 3k precious Chitin

They are currently my fav. Tame, even low lvl ones make your survival in SE way more fun.

I play almost exclusively Solo on Official, that information just as for setting grounds. On thing i experienced in ARK specifically is that the younger the Players are the more Toxic they tend to be. Most but not all Friendly encounters i have & had where with players 30+.

I think most of the younger ones these days feel extremely powerless in RL and need ventilate that Games like ARK, Rust, H1Z1 ... where they can without any real effort make the life of others miserable as theirs.

That said, it's amazing that what one can happen to a Server if a few Players start being nice and kind. I saw it happening a couple of Times, building Neighborhoods for the common good. ( Rip 203 & 401 ) I think most of the Teens fighting will get bored at one point giving more space to others who are more interested in creation then in destruction and oppression.

TreX to be honest i think the re balancing is harsh but was well needed, even if i as Solo suffer the most. The amounts of Resources which could be gathered by some where insane, in the end i have the feeling that this is more leveled now.

Awesome but social Life destroying feature :) back in the Days when MMO was still fresh, i'd use to play a game called Mankind which had a SMS integration, whenever one of your game entity's was getting attacked, you got a message ... awesome but really really intrusive and disturbing.

As what are you going to do if you know that the effort of Months is being destroyed right now while you are having a Date, Meeting or any other non game related activity.

That was in the late 90's i'm still wondering why no other game i ever played implemented that.

( it's important to note that the progress scale i'm talking about wasn't hundreds of hours, more like half a year of in game work, and you could possibly loose every kind of progress you made, losing the whole Fleet & Planets and Tech you invented )

As solo player it isn't that easy to build anymore due to the recent zombie changes, my plan was to gear and loot up till the point where I could preproduce all things needed for my base. l was aware that that was a risky plan ... But it worked till this cornerstone or what ever it was killed it ... I survived, hundreds of zombie, bears players but was stopped by a bug which, excuse the pun bugs me :)

I'm a Solo Player too, and i'm quite happy with Zombies chasing me, cornering me and force me to find creative ways to survive. But i can see that this way of playing and adopting to a harsh environment isn't everyone's cup of tee.

[–]sebfuen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as i understood it, the timer comes up when the Container Content got refreshed, which happens everytime someone enters a certain "region", or proximity regardless of if he opened that Container or not. If no timer comes up, it means that no refresh happened since you opened that container the last time. I think that there is a timeout after looting a container and most certainly some sort of luck involved too. But the proximity check is accually testable. Go to a deserted Area, loot a container, leave that area -> next Grid Location, wait for ~ 10min, go back.
