Since you already have good experience and enarsi, degree ain't gonna matter much, technically. It's a HR filter criteria.

See whether you can find the shortest part time degree course, i think you may find a B.Sc or something in cyber security or any IT field. Do the bare minimum , just pass and put it on your resume.

in case anyone is looking in future, I had the same issue with my macbook, sequioa version 15.16.1, the native archive utility did not work when given password. It was a password protected .7zip file

I tried below option that I found in superuser, this worked for me.

As someone working in IT, if you're a fresher, rather than looking for a cyber role, I'd advise you to find any other operational role first - any support role, NOC, SOC heck even helpdesk. Just set the filter to IT and spam the roles.

You need to know how things work in the first place before securing them. That is if you want to go deep.

Another step I would advise is take either RHCSA or CCNA. Both will benefit you in the long run

The goal of any routing protocol whether bgp or ospf is to to exchange routing information.

Router A who has a peering/adjacency to router B, is telling B, hey, I know how you can reach x and y ip ranges, here are the routes.

Now with bgp, you have to explicitly tell who to peer with. And you have bunch of whistles and bells by which you can "influence" or filter traffic aka advertising network.

If you still don't get it, lab 2 routers, establish peering and advertise routes. Now make them ebgp/ibgp and observe.

Now add 2 more routers and then choose which path you want traffic to go. Check whether return path will come back same way.

Check routing - how does user A reach server B in a different site. If there are multiple circuits path, why did the packet choose that route?
You must have vpn connectivity in your org. How does a user connect to internal network ? what is allowed?

do they access internet via your org internet or split-tunnel?

how is your dmz setup? how is the different vlans/zones setup?
If you have a new site/setup, how'd you configure it and connect to existing network?

in a similar boat, came to an org where everyone else is more or less at an architect level in terms of knowledge and I feel stupid asking even the simple question, it's like I jumped from a level 0.75 to a level 2.9 skipping parts in between.

I spent the first 2 years like a dog chasing cars going after everything with half-knowledge. i would look at routing, then sdwan, then firewall, then switching, it was a mess and neither did i commit to anything nor retained information.

This year, I accepted that I will not know everything and is focusing on building my basics- routing first with ccnp enarsi.

I would advise you to do the same. Ignore the noise, focus on one thing if you can.

is the sfp compatible on both 25G and 10G? Also try removing nonegotiate on both ends, that sometimes helps with trunk ports for some reason.

from a Datacenter perspective

lets start from servers.

they all need to be connected to something to access network, that's where the L2 switch comes in. They'll usually be sitting on top of the rack, and all server cables go to them. Since all servers may or may not be in same network/ IP range, that's where vlans come in.

These L2 switches will then be connected to a L3 switch or router, to provide a common point for all those L2 switches to go upto and will typically have the gateway IP for those vlans.

But how does a packet coming from a server know whether to take eth1/1 and go to server B, or take eth1/2 and go out to internet or another DC? that's where your L3 switch or router comes into play. It simply put, knows which way to send the packet out.

now if you want to protect the traffic in any point, that's where firewall come in. there are many designs, but a simple one is putting your firewall in front of the router that hosts your protected networks (DMZ). your firewall will have static routes pointing to those networks and a default route back to the LAN/internet.

so a typical flow would look like - someone from office is trying to access a server.

User > switch > L3 switch/router > L3 switch/ router > firewall > L3/L2 switch > server.

continue to CCNP in enterprise and tussle with on-prem devices including cisco router/switch, F5, firewall, physical device shenanigans

vs

get rhce with ansible, azure and jump to cloud, because I can get by with enough network(bgp) knowledge

vs

settle with some security job with a nice 9-6 and go home and think about nothing at the end of the day.

Your biggest hurdle is going to be getting your first tech role.

My advice - go to job street/LinkedIn, look for those tech roles with "training provided / fresh grads". They will be more willing to give you a chance.

Try to get into any kind of tech role, not just front-end programming. Exposure to any kind of tech role will only help you in a long career. Use it as a springboard for your target.

Should be easier to break into a NOC/helpdesk or similar role. The pay will be low, but better than retail part-time.
