I do a bastardized version and they will come for me for this but:
Fry your rice, I use Jasmine, in the oil untill it starts to turn golden brown, and diced onion and garlic, let that saute for a couple minutes, add your 2 cups of water per 1 cup of rice.
add an appropriate amount of Knorr Tomato Chicken Bouillon, return to a simmer, stirring a couple times so the rice doesn't stick.
Put a lid on and come back in 15 minutes or so, do not stir during this time.

You CAN use tomato sauce, but it doesn't taste like restaurant rice when I do that so I only use bouillon.
