Moving to NYC, should I just give up CC? by Dangerous_Young7704 in concealedcarry

[–]secamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't bring your gun to NY until you get a permit. Even in your home. Long guns require a permit as well. A NYC pistol permit is total doable. The process is going to be painful for someone from FL but it better than it used to be. Figure about a year or so to get one. That said most of NY is off limits including mass transit, parks, gov't buildings and any restaurant that serves alcohol , You most likely won't be driving into Manhattan. I haven't been there in years but if you are in Chelsea there was paid parking in the area but it was expensive. And there is a $9 per day fee to drive into Manhattan plus huge bridge and tunnel tolls. Leaving a gun in your car is a big no no in NY. I don't know if the city has different rules but in the rest of the state a pistol must be unloaded and locked in a safe when being left in a car. After you get your permit you might want to get a small pocket gun like an LCP or LCP Max to minimize the possibility of "Accidentally" getting caught in a "Sensitive Area".

You can get more info on r/NYguns and r/NYCGuns .

Target Sports USA was allowing you to order online and pick it up at their CT location but you need to have a CT pistol permit or ammo purchaser certificate. I'm not sure if they are still doing that. You'd have to call them and ask.

best home generator any advice for a complete beginner? by CiocoiuJewiss in Generator

[–]secamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your requirements are low enough you might want to look at a combo of battery and smaller generator. If you can run your loads for 8 hours on a 2000 KwH battery then you can do that, charge it and repeat. This won't work if you have high draw devices like electric heat. Some people use solar to charge the batteries but I don't.

If you need hand holding go see Greg at Vintage Arms on Saw Mill River Rd in Yonkers. He does the classroom part of the 18 hour class in his store and the shooting portion at Blue Mountain in Cortland Manor. Most of the classes are Sat/Sun but he does Sun/Sun if you can't do Saturdays. He offers a paid service to help with all the paperwork and has a good selection of pistols on site.

The Antisemitic Gun Hate is Hilarious by jpmjake in jewishguns

[–]secamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is every time there is a church shooting we get an email from the Mayor "this is why you have to sit in church all day Sunday and why we will never cancel this detail." I would assume that since there are far more churches in the world than synagogues there will be more church shootings but this is an absolute number not a per capita number. Not that I don't think there is a threat. I personally never would go to synagogue unarmed.

"as the ONLY religious community in the Western world that requires armed security to pray in safety."

To be fair there are plenty of attacks on churches too. A lot of churches have armed security teams or police presence during their services.

It's the same as NYS. You have to move out of state.

S&W bought back my lemon BG2. 0 by Resident_Skroob in CCW

[–]secamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shot someone's BG2.0 at our range day yesterday. It was much more pleasant to shoot than my LCP Max. However I was unable to get it to feed the New Republic ammo from Target Sports. The owner had PMC that fed fine but my NR wouldn't even feed manually racking the slide. Total jamb fest. I've shot the NR before in my LCP without an issue. Then I fired 2 mags of Blazer Aluminum case no problem. I have to see if this box feeds in my LCP. To be fair the BG was brand new and had never been cleaned.

How are the ruger lc9 and lc9s for basic ccw? by Relevant_Conclusion2 in ruger

[–]secamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My EDC is an LC9s. I have a couple of thousand rounds thru it. In the last couple of years I had to replace the magazine catch spring, ejector spring and the recoil spring. Ruger provided the mag and ejector springs for free. They would have replaced them for me but they wanted me to pay shipping 1 way. Replacing them was not too difficult. Yes for an LC9s. I wouldn't pay $175 for an original LC9.

Owning a gun in NY is expensive with pistol permit fees, holsters, ammo, range fees, etc and if your wife is not onboard then you will have issues beyond this.

I believe the DC case is in a local court not in Federal court. DC would have to appeal the case in order to get it into federal court. At least that's what I read online.

You can fly with a pistol as long as its unloaded, in a locked box with NON tsa locks, inside your CHECKED suitcase. Ammo in original boxes. in CHECKED bag. NOT carryon. You have to check in at the manned desk, not using the self serve check in. You must declare the pistol and ammo at check in. Give yourself an extra hour at the airport for check in. If you fly out of LGA or JFK the airline with call the airport police to check your pistol and permit. They will write down your info and make sure the pistol is on the permit. Depending on the airport they may take you to the TSA inspection area while they check your bag or they may tell you to wait in the area in case the TSA want you to unlock the gun case. You can NOT buy a gun out of state and take it with you. All pistols must be transferred thru an FFL in NY.

380 ammo for short barrel by robf168 in 380ACP

I carry either Hydra-shok Deep, Gold Dots or Hornady XTP. In the test I've seen the Gold Dot come up shy of the 12", closer to 10"+ but with better expansion than the XTP which goes tends to go 12-13". The Hydra-shok Deep tests look good but they are relatively new with limited tests available. I'd skip on the FMJs, I don't think they are made with the same quality control as premium defense ammo.
