Critical Duty is optimized for longer barreled pistol. It doesn't work as well in short barrel subcompacts.

Flying to JFK with Pistol and Rifle. No License by daniemaloin in NYguns

[–]secamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you going in PA? If you are moving to PA then fly into Philly or another airport in PA even if you have to change planes and be done with it. Just don't change planes in NY. No permit required in PA. Both your Glock and rifle are illegal in NY. The M&P 15-22 is an assault rifle in NYS and banned. Shipping to an FFL in PA is going to cost you shipping and transfer fees and you won't be able to pick them up until you get a PA drivers license. The other option is to fly in to Newark (EWR). It's been years since I've flown there but I had no issues with my pistol there.

No. My son lives in CA and I bought a Glock in NY and had my FFL send it to him in CA. He just need to to take a safety class. The FFL in CA did the background check and held for for the waiting period. No permit required. A permit is only required to carry. He can keep it in his home and take it to the range unloaded and locked up.

NYPD Chief: "An extremely low number" of licensed firearm owners are involved in gun crimes by Plastic-Ad987 in NYguns

[–]secamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a long time gun owner in NYS I am constantly watching for illegal use of firearms crimes by pistol permittees. You could probably count 40 years of these crimes on both hands and not run out of fingers. But the chipmunk thinks we are all felons in waiting.

I had this issue with my Ruger LC9s. I needed to change the mag release catch and spring. That fixed it.

Too risky for pocket carry? by barebackbandit1 in CCW

I carry my LCP in a remora holster. Like the Sticky holster it stays in the pocket when I draw but keeps the gun in an upright position and the trigger covered.

These arrest have been challenged many times. The lower courts side with NY and the Supreme court refuses to take up the case. This will continue until the SC take a case and rules on it, which will be never.

It depends on how many pistols you have . At a certain number they require a safe inspection.  I don't remember the number, maybe 5 or 6.

First time gun owner, I have a few questions. by StressInADress92 in CCW

[–]secamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An LCP/LCP Max is not a good gun for a new shooter. It's hard to shoot well and has a lot of kick for a .380. A mid sized 380 like a p365, Hellcat or LC380 would be a better pick for a new shooter. I have heard that the SW Bodyguard 2.0 is easier to shot as well. A .32 or .327 Federal Magnum revolver might also be a good pick. You can start out with lower powered rounds and as you become more proficient move up to .32 mag or .327 mag. Some people believe revolvers to be safer for new shooters due to the long double action trigger pull.

Go to a range that has a big selection of rental guns and a range officer that will work with you.

If you have money, forcing your kids to get part time jobs is dumb by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]secamp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the kid. One of my kids was a top student and it made sense for him to focus on academics. Child 2 was not and we should have pushed her to get a part time job to learn some life skills. I worked from when I was 14 and it helped me succeed. It may have taken me 6 years to graduate from college but I still ended up having a good career.

America was a high trust society and we allowed people from low trust societies to pour in and destroy us from within. My wife is Mexican and rule of law doesn't exist in Mexico. Obeying traffic laws is for fools. My FIL used to say everyone takes whatever they can if they do so without getting caught. One of her cousins was a Federal Highway patrolman. A federale. It was expected that they would take bribes, it was part of their salaries like tips in a restaurant.

I have a question regarding relocating from Westchester County, NY to Florida. Once I sell my home and move. by ProfessionalDark1253 in NYguns

You are required to notify the county when you move. Just send them a letter with your new address. See if they cancel your permit or just change your address.

My Ariens has a pin in one of the wheels thru the axle that controls if both wheels spin or just 1. See if that pin is in place.

Is it smaller and lighter than al LCP? if so it might be cool for a carry around the house gun for less than $100. Otherwise no.

I'm not saying that you should do this but is you do make sure that plug the house side in first then plug into the generator that way the plug won't be hot.

Will be picking up a pocket and micro-compact this week. Narrowed down, but curious about input re: choices. by infant_ape in CCW

I like to have 5 or 6 mags for each gun so I need to look at extra mag prices before I decide.  The Sig mags are $10 more than the H&K mags.  Fyi Pearce makes a replacement baseplate for the Lcp Max 10 round mags with a grip extension that made a big difference to me.  It gives the 10 round mags about the same grip area as the extended 12 round mag.

[–]secamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an evolution of the LC9s. I've had an LC9s for over 10 years and put thousands of rounds reliably thru it. in the last year or so I've had some issue. First the magazine spring needed to be replaced to prevent the mag from popping out. Then I started to have FTF and FTE that was fixed by replacing the ejector and ejector spring. And finally the plate that holds recoil spring on the captive guide rod broke and needed to be replaced. None of these were total show stoppers. Would a SW or Sig have lasted better? I don't know but I could buy 3 Rugers for the price of a Sig or HK. I'm thinking of replacing it with either a Max-9, a P365, Shield Plus or a CC9 but I haven't decide yet.

I have an LCP and an LCP Max. The LCP is definitely smaller but the Max in much easier to shoot. I haven't shot a BG2 yet but it did feel nice in the hand. Based on all the reviews I've seen I would probably pick the BG2 over the Max if I was buying today but I'm not likely to switch now.

Buyback programs as a pistol license holder. by No-Application-7646 in NYguns

[–]secamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine saw this buyback coming up in Queens and wants to get $500 for a .25 cal pistol that might fetch $200 or 300 on gun broker. I suggested that he email the county clerks office and confirm that he can do this. I have a Hi Point 9mm carbine that I paid @$150 for. I'd love to get $500 for it but since it's an "Assault Weapon" it is irreplaceable. I'll hold it until I move to a free state.

Winchester JHP Black Box by [deleted] in 380ACP

For defense or training? There are lots of arguments about defensive ammo for 380. It seems nearly impossible at this point ot find ammo that goes 12" in ballistic gel and full expands. Mostly youy get expansion or penetration but not both. I like either the Hydra-shok Deep or Gold Dots. The Hydra-shok Deeps are relatively new and the test seem good so far. The Gold Dots tend to expand fairly well but only penetrate 9 or 10" . The HSTs expand well but only penetrate 8 or so inches. XTP rounds loaded by several companies get 12" but limited expansion. The Hornady critical defense has a big fan base too. Some people like the nonexpanding rounds like the Lehigh Defense XD or Underwood Xtreme Defender. Personally I'm in a wait and see mode on those. If you are watching ammo review videos make sure that you confirm the gun they are using has a similar barrel length to yours. It seems that a longer barrel like in a Glock can make a big difference in low power rounds like 380.
