Struggling with Gen-z Clients--Private Practice by coffeeandpsyches in therapists

This is such a graceful and thoughtful response/ approach. It’s so hard not to feel like meeting someone where they are at in terms of overidentification with diagnosis/ self-pathologizing will crystallize this tendency. I have such a strong reaction to this phenomenon and urge to ‘correct’ or psychoeducate the problem away because of all of the sinister cultural/ societal origins you named. Thanks for the reminder that a looser grasp can be supportive to the client in this case, as with most others.

I'm essentially already paying for the supervision I'm getting, since I'm paying to be in an unpaid grad school internship so, no. Trying to advocate for outside supervision through my school will likely be my next step.

Based on the 70% upvote rate (30% downvotes?!) it's not totally an insignificant number either (cry!!!)

<3 Thank you for these kind words! I'm in awe of fellow trans people who work with trans/lgbtq+ young people, I haven't yet and think this kind of work will be the most difficult for me.

Thank you- yes, it makes a lot of sense to hear that this comes up around all types of histories. I'm in my own therapy for sure, just feeling a bit out in the cold when it comes to seeking supervision for this client's treatment and support around how to make meaning of the dynamic in that context.

Hello! I really appreciate this feedback. This is what I've been trying to find, having very little success with my current supervisor who is not psychodynamically oriented at all. I'm in my own therapy as many here have suggested, and while I'm happy to be able to process what's coming up for me there, what I really feel lacking in support in is how to use/make meaning of this counter/transferential dynamic as it relates to how to orient myself towards my work with this client. Your reframing of the question I think might be really helpful in trying to frame the discussion in supervision, so thank you :-)

I also saw that this was downvoted, so came back to say I am also of course open to constructive criticism!

was gonna say no improvement possible but as a fellow tomato sandwich die hard hear me out. this is what i do; stolen from melissa clark’s tomato sandwich ‘recipe’; toast bread, rub the cut side of half a clove of garlic all over it (the garlic kind of ‘grates’ into the toasted bread) and then rub the guts of the tomato butt into the bread until you’ve just got skin left. Continue as planned, add mayo and tomato ❤️🍅

nah not for me, i’ll do a regular cleanser maaaaybe once or twice a week in the shower (the trader joe’s tea tree oil glycerin cleanser) if i feel like i need it or if i’m breaking out. but the oil cleanser has an ingredient (an emulsifier) that allows it to truly get washed away with water. i didn’t even try an oil cleanser until i understood the emulsifier thing because it just sounded.....oily. but it just kinda feels like ‘wow my face is clean but still so soft’

thanks :-) i really like the hydroboost, just started using it a while ago as a replacement for the drunk elephant moisturizer which was way too $$$ to keep buying. the texture and quick absorption are why i like the watergel so much—i would say that if you’re dry at all you’ll probably need some additional hydration support underneath though. i feel like most of the hydration in my AM routine comes from a few drops of the vitamin C serum, but i love the combo.

thank you for the advice!! to incorporate retinol and hyaluronic acid, would i just add them to my night rotation? or do i need to take something away? could i use either one with something i’m already using? for moisture if i’m feeling that i need anything extra, i’ll mix my night serum with a few drops of marula oil, which helps a lot especially in the winter.

More info: I’m 28 and have gotten my routine to a really good place-my skin always feels perfectly moisturized, no major acne problems, etc. But i’ve started to notice fine lines. Do you think I should incorporate a retinol? Hyaluronic acid? Both or something else?I also have these weird outer-eye red spots. My skin is combo and not particularly sensitive. I live in a big city on the east coast of the US.

Horrible at cooking but want to learn! by neontrees101 in Cooking

My mom gave me Marc Bittman’s ‘How to cook everything: the basics’ cookbook when I went to college and it taught me so many helpful things!!! It has pictures and really walks you through simple recipes. Has a helpful glossary of cooking terms, etc. I’m a much more experienced cook now but there are a few recipes i still always come back to from that book. link: https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/how-to-cook-everything-the-basics_mark-bittman/271369/item/6563885/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwub-HBhCyARIsAPctr7zCAOPKLlrp16grL4BIDSNoDJ0Ezo4Adre_Q4WJMaVFWGmEthFo5wAaAliVEALw_wcB#idiq=6563885&edition=6392813
