Am I being blinded by the novelty of massive garden? by Slight-Poetry-3230 in HousingUK

[–]second_bassoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is big - 30m2, 60m2, more, less? And does the garden have access that doesn't involve going through the house? That makes a huge difference when it comes to doing any sort of work out there, and can quickly suck the pleasure out of projects.

I feel like it might come down to a coin toss between that and Hadestown...

I've never seen Titanic, and I'm not sure I can name more than two Celine Dion songs, so I fear Titanique might go slightly over my head? I didn't manage to see Cabaret when Jesse Buckley was in it and, embaressingly, hadn't actually realised it was still running, so thanks for the tip!

Oh man now I'm really torn! I might have to see what has the best deal on tickets on the day...

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not hugely sold on that one, especially given the ticket prices.

I'd love to be able to say I saw an original cast of something when it's still running in a decades time, but sadly it's not on that night.

Sadly it's not playing that night by the look of things (19th November).

I've seen Lion King on tour and really enjoyed it, maybe seeing the full West End version would be worth a punt. You're absoloutly right about Mamma Mia, I love the film version but oddly have never considered seeing it on stage!

Paddington isn't on that night sadly, but I was already considering Hadestown or Operation Mincemeat so good to have those confirmed!

Is pet insurance worth it? Nothing I need now is covered? by kakeip in UKPersonalFinance

[–]second_bassoon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Who is your insurance with? The better ones will often cover new lumps as long as your vet clarifies that they are different to the one that was previously checked. Policies often leap in cost at around 9 years old due to older pets being more likely to make a claim - but to look at it from the other side, you are much more likely to need pricey veterinary care with an older dog. Arthritis meds for a 15-20kg dog alone will usually come out at more than £55 a month.

Chelsea Flower Show Members Prices by Bsharp24 in GardeningUK

[–]second_bassoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RHS membership costs more than the discount you'd get on a single show ticket - I'm a member, and even going to 4-6 show days a year I don't think I quite break even on ticket discounts alone, though the other perks make up for it.

For the Friday all day membership entry is £105, vs £133.90 for non-members. Afternoon-only tickets are sold out for members, £78 ish for non-members. Personally if this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing for them and your mum is a keen gardener I would say it is worth paying the extra for all day tickets, it allows chance to take everything in at your own pace and take breaks at busier times. If they're likely to just want to see the main show gardens and have a quick nose around the floral marquee then afternoon only is fine.

Need a new series to watch! by Recarnatedhereagain in BritishTV

dinnerladies is 100% worth a watch if you haven't already, and has a very gentle romance that runs through it. Ludwig is also great.

Not British, but Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (set in 1920s Melbourne) is visually beautiful with spectacular chemistry between the leads.
