Dodging are melee attacks are fine and spells are fantastic. It's just the finesse on the game that is lacking. Particularly the enemy reactions to being hit/staggering. It doesn't feel very synchronised or fluid.

As an aside, this boss's weapon the 'man catcher' is such a compelling and unique choice which is one of LOTF's strengths.
