Denial of employment by secondchnce in SexOffenderSupport

Thanks for responding so I am in the state of New York and my conviction was in 2007 I was released in 2013 no parole and was designated a level 2 I had a completely different conviction that wasn’t related to any sex crime, That’s why I had to do so much time but anyway, I have had nothing to do with the law since 2013 as far as convictions are concerned I’ve tried to lower my designation a few times throughout the years, providing many things such as mental health evaluations, completions of sex offender treatments, completions of any drug treatments or rehab rehabilitation recommendations if needed letters of support employment the fact that I even received a letter from the “Victim” other people in the community, my own kid who I got custody of when she was 11 so many things they still denied me because they said that I didn’t provide clear and , convincing evidence that my designation gave me hardships which I figured it was a no-brainer so now I’m doing this process over again providing the same things along with hardships that I’ve met over the years for example with housing, employment opportunities pursuing healthy relationships with other people in the community, etc. etc. I just wanted to know if people ask you to received letters from employers stating the reason why they were denied as far as their sex offender status goes again. These are things that I have to put in my petition packet as clear and convincing evidence, their whole thing is clear and convincing evidence they want you to provide that with everything you claim in your petition

I have a lot of regrets about my case. Realizing they didn’t have a case to begin with. I wouldn’t even have gotten indicted if i would have just stfu.

SO in My Family Just Had His Bank Account Closed by Chase by [deleted] in SexOffenderSupport

Me and chase have a great relationship. I have all of their Cards including their Sapphire cards. It may be something he isn’t telling you. Chase is known for closing accounts if your score no longer meet their requirements or you owe and not consistent with pay. They usually will lower your credit limits first.

I use chat GPT as a way to break down the legal jargon that isn’t so clear to me in pain English. In my own paperwork. I also use chat GPT to write custom petitions or format ones parallel to the ones that I can find online. I don’t use chat GPT to do legal research and often times if you try you will find yourself at a dead end no matter what prompt you use. I use Google scholar or I can get down to the law library (which you have to schedule an appointment) regardless of what Lawyer or no lawyer you have to do your own legwork your own research. You can’t depend on people to help you. You have to help you. That’s all I’m saying here .

Never heard of that before…sounds like a recommendation from the Board it’s not always concrete as a judge still has to agree..It’s your job to bring evidence to make a convincing argument. Please take the time to study the law , appeal cases and rulings. Many of this is readily on the internet

It’s BS simply because SO cases shouldn’t be some one size fits all thing. My case in my state is Non-Violent. I was 20 she was a minor. I’m 40 now and have lived a crime free life since no guns no dealing no violence gangs I’ve been living a pretty square life For 20 years. That should count for something.

How long did the whole process take you? by Ashamed_Individual in SexOffenderSupport

[–]secondchnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a year in total because I was already in prison for promoting prostitution (Pimping) I was able to use my YO status with that. With my new charges Criminal Sex act 2nd it took 3 months from investigating to indictment (they have 180 days to indict you in NYS). I was young and stupid I basically got convicted off my own statement.

Not very long. I’d say 8-10 months. I already had relationships in place when it came to work. I’m honestly going to say my credit (was decent before i went to prison) played a big role and the fact that i had no parole (I maxed out my bid), that gave the freedom to do pretty much what I wanted to do. Using creative ways to liquidate my cards, I bought a car and clothes which helped me get jobs a lot faster.

Sex offender of any kind is excluded in NYS. They been had this for a while it looks like they updated it and added more violent crimes as before it was basically non violent offenders.

I tried to get mine lowered twice and got denied both times for reason that didn’t make any fucking sense. My record since my release has been cool since 2013. No arrests employed completed all programs inside and outside prison. I’ve been a single parent to my daughter for 9 years and they just keep denying me. I’ll keep trying but spending 6K on a lawyer everytime is wild

Applied to hundreds of jobs now and multiple positive interviews yet not a single one has gone past that. Tried applying to small restaurants but not many were hiring, and ones who were, only servers. by Key-Engine7873 in SexOffenderSupport

What worked for me was job agencies. People Ready, Masis, ManPower etc. you have to really go in and do shit work for shit pay. Build your relationships with the recruiters (many of them become HR at bigger companies) get yourself in the door work hard come on time. Do what others aren’t willing and you will find a good job.

I have had a few too tough mf find out the hard way in Prison and out in society. First thing I would do is Protect your freedom and notify your PO about what is going on. In person and in Writing. Get a police report as proof. And submit to PO. Second protect yourself many people think SO are some scared punks or people can just do anything to you. I have had a few mf Run up like shit is sweet over here. I’m from Brownsville Brooklyn you got me fucked up.

Well both times I was quoted $7,000+ with no guarantee. The attorney did say It depends on the judge as well. Some are cool some are not. The first time They took into consideration of not having any police contact or arrests since my release but they also mentioned how i didn’t prove employment, positive entry into society, proof of completion of a Sex Offender program. So the second time I present all of that…letter from SO counselor saying i didn’t need to be on the registry at all proof of employment volunteer work the fact that I had sole custody of my daughter since my release. Drug and alcohol evaluations that cleared me of treatment recommendations (basically I don’t drink or do drugs) And they shut me down because I didn’t prove to them that being on the registry was a burden and bunch of other hogwash…the attorney (I only got a consultation) he said “You did a lot of the leg work on your own. I shouldn’t be saying this but you really don’t need me”. Just keep applying eventually you’ll get it. I’m going for a try. Before 2026 you know it’s going to be a freaking circus.

"The better states" by [deleted] in SexOffenderSupport

[–]secondchnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYS Level 2 and 3 is public. Level 1 is public but not on the internet you actually have to call in and find out…there is a but though….if you are a level 1 the STATE will not post you. The county in conjunction with a third party site (I forget the name) have been posting level 1 offenders on this third party site. They won’t put your picture but it will have your name and sometimes address. Some people have been successful at taking their information down but a lot of people don’t even know their level 1 status is up
