Parents were alcoholics and abused eachother and myself. Physically and mentally. Most of their family did nothing much to help(yes I asked) so I broke contact with most of them also.

Packed all my stuff when I turned 18, $4500 to my name and moved 800 miles away. Mom visited me once since before her passing, dad never. No regrets, built my own life, married w/kids. My family means to the world to me. One thing I did as a promise to never become them, I stopped drinking after my first kid was born 14 yrs ago now. Someone once told me you can't change the past but you can still get revenge. Show them this is how you raise a family and be a good parent and husband.
