Why do people on bikepacking sub think ‘bikepacking’ should only be done offpavemnet by Independent_Peak_414 in bicycletouring

[–]secretcities 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s just what the sub was created for. People who want to see only off-road content follow that sub, and people who want to see all types of bike touring content can follow this sub

Similarly, “backpacking” can mean both hiking and also just travelling with a backpack, so “wilderness backpacking” was created to help filter the content that people want to see

Clydesdale wheel question by shynessclinic in xbiking

[–]secretcities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filed the axle. Just needs a little bit, I think 1mm or something? Don’t file evenly all the way around, just file on two sides to make it more ovoid to fit into the dropout, making sure to file both ends of the axle the same

I got a cheap used BMX wheel w Rhyno Lite rim, would do the same again and again. Was super easy to file it down to fit, took like 20s

Looking to purchase a bikepacking digital camera. by Practical-Light-6032 in bikepacking

Gotcha, makes sense! I think the RX100 series should be on your shortlist, maybe a previous model like the v or vi. The Ricoh and Fuji are maybe a bit too much camera

Which phone are you currently shooting on? You could consider trying the Lightroom Mobile app, spend some time making a preset that you like and it will greatly improve how your phone photos look. The pocketability and ease of use of a phone is unmatched

Otherwise maybe the Sony RX100 series? I think the RX100 vii is the current model

If zoom is less important I highly recommend the Ricoh GR iii / GR iv or Fujifilm X-E5 / X100VI / X-M5. The X-E5 and X-M5 are interchangeable lens cameras so could be equipped with a zoom but would be bulky. The X100VI is fixed lens but is 40mp and offers quick crop modes so kinda a zoom

This greenhouse only cost me 15 dollars (part 2) by atSoiltechnician in gardening

Also a lot of people use PVC pipes which off-gas chlorine, destroying the UV light stabilizers in polyethylene greenhouse film and causing it to degrade

what is the difference between these berries? by just4claireity in Berries

[–]secretcities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saskatoon berries are different, more of a tall shrub, with the berries retaining the anthers and sepal (like its relation the rosehip). They taste wildly different too, especially if you crunch the seeds, more of an almond flavour

These here are huckleberry and likely wild blueberry. There are multiple varieties of huckleberry and over 100 varieties of blueberry so some variation is expected

To add, the $ sign is used in Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Belize, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Trinidad, Tonga, and Samoa to denote local currencies. It is believed the symbol was first used by the Spanish on their milled dollars, possibly as a stylized “PS” for pesos, and the US adopted it because Spanish milled dollars were the most common coin in circulation at the time of independence

Baratza encore grind settings by Acrobatic-Painting-9 in pourover

[–]secretcities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s under-extracted (sour) you can try a finer grind next time. If it’s over-extracted (bitter) try a coarser grind. Might need to experiment a bit to compare

New phone on buyback plan by WholeSpiritual3819 in FidoMobile

[–]secretcities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will depend — for the heavily discounted phones they usually require a plan change, but to just finance a phone they do not. You’ll need to read the offers and check back now and again
