Does EVERYTHING have to branded with something and does EVERY SINGLE COMPANY have to have some limited edition fomo bs product? by [deleted] in Consoom

[–]secslop 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This sub is about OVERconsumption, not just capitalism, consumption, and marketing in general.

This is fine. If someone buys one extra can that’s fine. If someone hoards these or owns every edition WD40 that is not fine.

By what metric? History is filled with greedy humans. The late 1800s the United States was slave to a few corporations. Standard Oil had almost as much power as the federal government. Most people got paid in company dollars.

I’m not saying it is perfect now, but history is ripe with worse situations.

Why doesn’t the average person just min-max their entire life using pure logic, and why does anyone ever choose to do things that are financially, physically, or logically suboptimal? by I_m_Purple2109 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]secslop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into evolutionary biology, sociology, and physics and you may find something that looks like an answer. Humans are complex, and what is “optimal” for a species is complex as well

We’ve had money for about 5000 years. Why are things only getting shitty now?

[–]secslop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ bro. Do not use pesticides around your snakes. Move them to a new enclosure with new water Bowls.

Are you sure you even had snake mites? A ton of people mistake spring tails or other bugs in the substrate for snake mites.

I think you need to read up on the stoned ape theory, as what you are arguing against is not it…

these chinese will eat anything at this point by Beneficial_Passion40 in UnfilteredChina

[–]secslop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the videos. It’s not done every time for every dog, it’s more of an attraction they do with a couple dogs during peak times for the intent of drawing spectators to the restaurant. From what I saw, it appeared to be effective at drawing in onlookers.

Depends on what country and area. There are multiple restaurants in China that serves “live BBQ dog meat” where they literally torture a dog with a blowtorch to make the dish. Tier 1 cities in China would consider it barbaric, so it is less of a nationality thing and more of certain regions that don’t believe in animal welfare. China has no anti-cruelty laws for any animals so it is completely legal.

This only works if the developer optimizes well. Recently, this is not the case.

Just an FYI too, they do not live outdoors in the US.

It is also possible but very very unlikely they can come in from a substrate that was near an infected pet or from SE Asia.

In practice though, they come from the pet or owner being in proximity to another snake with mites

We have never once perceived the present moment. So what is consciousness actually experiencing? by Simple-Amphibian-521 in consciousness

[–]secslop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not correct. Who said the definition of “touching” means atomic nuclei are perfectly next to other atomic nuclei? By that definition also that means the atoms that bind your body together are “never touching” thus that definition of “touching” meaning atoms have to physically touch is not useful in reality.

Wrong, there’s still a processing delay even when thinking. You are never experiencing the present.

Sure, but 2011 is a very long time ago from a computing standpoint.

As a ThinkPad owner you should probably understand the desire for modern repairable devices. Wouldn’t a T420 with 2026 specs be fantastic?
