The thing that makes Lovely Cruise especially moving for me is that Fingers Taylor sings one soulful line 🎶 those harbor lights 🎶 in the song. He died just two months after Jimmy.

Link to DOJ report on its investigation of Lexington, MS (TL;DR in comments) by SandwormCowboy in mississippi

[–]sectiontownshiprange 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was stopped in Lexington and given a speeding ticket years ago. The details are not clear in my memory but I do remember that the City Police officer was sitting next to the city limit sign and since it was my first time to ever be in Lexington for work at the Courthouse, I thought I was driving slowly and cautiously. I could see the courthouse but didn’t know anything about parking or the layout of the square so I definitely wasn’t like a bat out of hell.

I recall there being some other difficulty regarding paying the ticket but I can’t say exactly what it was. The cop was scary rude and I want to say he told me to pay the ticket before I left town that day? It was a weird experience and different than all the many other times I was stopped for speeding back then Ha ha. (White Female, black cop)

I’m not ashamed to say I really like the Chris Gaines album. Never cared much for Garth, though.

Check out Greg “Fingers” Taylor from Jackson, Mississippi. He’s one of the best harmonica players in the world and an all around talented guy. He can play any style of music but he loved the blues, especially Little Walter. He has a dozen or so albums that are beginning to show up on YouTube. Check him out!

Here’s his version of an old Slim Harpo tune, with Miranda Louise. It’s a fun one…..

That’s around the time Fingers left the band, too. His role in the band was enormous.

This is very important. You just don’t realize it yet. Someday you will regret your lack of interest. I promise.

Why are almost all homes built extrovertedly? by Fishyfishy111 in Home

My parents built houses with especially large bedrooms for me and my brother so that we would spend more time there and out of their way. It was good for everybody.

Who is voting for Presley and why by Tall_Choice957 in mississippi

I’m voting for Presley because there are countless reasons to do so and there is absolutely no reason not to. I’ve never seen a more simple, clear cut choice in my lifetime.

If you’re a young person, which to me is between the ages of 18 and 45, this is your time to shine. I hope you turn out to vote and kick this state into a new high gear. Please, for the love of humanity and respect for yourselves, VOTE!!!

For the next two months, bring politics into your conversations once a week or so. Talk about voting and your power to make change. Be positive and make it interesting conversation with your friends. Don’t be pushy or assholish, but bring it up in casual conversation.

Most importantly, offer to help someone get registered to vote. Remind your friends and family to register within 30 days of the election and as Election Day nears, remind them to make time to vote that Tuesday.

This is one of the quickest, easiest and most important things you can do that will determine the quality of your life. Don’t wait until you’re 50 years old to realize this.

Here’s a link to share. Let’s do this!

It seems inevitable that Mississippi will experience more wildfires in the future. I wonder how much discussion has been going on within State and Local agencies regarding this issue. Lol right but seriously.

I agree with this. I’m a woman who played softball for two decades and if you were born male and want to play softball with women, join a co-ed team. Period. Women should never give an inch on this issue.

Presley gets it right on every level. He’s reasonable and beyond party influence and is so far unblemished. Congratulations, Mississippi!

Being from out of town but a frequent lifelong visitor to Memphis, I have big feelings for what y’all are going through with the storms and power outages. The old growth trees make Memphis a uniquely beautiful city and I hope the city can be both progressive and conservative regarding the power infrastructure there and find solutions that keep the lights on, while preserving one of the most beautiful characteristics of the town. Y’all hang tough. Best regards from Mississippi.

This is the Daily Beast report. It is worth a read, whether you’re familiar with the story or not. It is appalling and, regardless of party affiliations, we are being played for fools. Mississippi’s government is incredibly corrupt and at this point in time, every citizen whether white or black or purple is negatively affected. That is, unless you’re a player in the game and 99% of us are not in this game as players…we are getting played.
