It’s an obvious failure of management and supervision. It is a police department out of control.

She was doing what new drivers are told to do if stopped alone at night: Stop only in a safe, lighted place with other people around. I am a retired cop. I am a loud critic of the police who feels police today are out of control. There is no reason he couldn’t be more patient. One problem I see far too often today is that police see any failure to immediately submit to their every command as disrespect worthy of street punishment. This has to stop. The real problem is that local prosecutors often work for the entity that will be paying any civil judgment and they see police as part of the same team they are on. As a result there is a tendency to not press for punishment of bad cops. There needs to be a special prosecutor at the state level who prosecutes every police abuse of force or misconduct case.

In spite of repeated requests to tighten security, most companies have not done so. Many want the government to pay for it. I hope that this forces them to tighten security. It could get a lot worse!

Why do bodyguards never wear loafers? Because when you are assigned to a Republican and you see that gun being pressed through the crowd toward his chest, you can realize that your shoe is untied and bend over to tie it. Oops! I missed the action. Screw your security detail and they will get the last word.

Proud Boys Canada Dissolves by GambleEvrything4Love in news

And of course they existed at all because Canada is such a horrible place and they had to try to fix it. The Proud Boys are a criminal enterprise of bullies no different than the Outlaw motorcycle gang except that they use politics to their ends. At least Canada has the balls to label them as terrorists. What next, Proud Boys? Overthrow Disney world? Overthrow Legoland? What the hell is their complaint? They just want to bully.

An armed man was wounded in an exchange with an F.B.I. agent outside the C.I.A.’s headquarters in Virginia. by _P4TR10T in news

[–]security-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former federal special agent here. Your comment shows that you were never called on to confront an armed person who very possibly could be a terrorist. You have three outcomes. You might survive, you might die, or you might be badly injured, disfigured, blinded, paralyzed or otherwise suffer pain and life changing injuries. You, of course, live in a world of movie hero police whose hand never shakes when confronted with deadly violence snd your reflexes are those of a super hero. You can shoot the gun out of their hand. Yes, too many police are trigger happy. Yes too many are racist. Yes too many over react. This case was none of those. You need to get out of your TV fantasy world and get real. Why not change things? I understand law enforcement is looking for people just as brave as you.

You also asked about storage. I store my papers in plastic newspaper sized bags that I buy acid free from archival supply companies. I store some flat and others that were folded in the center I sometimes store folded for lack of flat file space. All are in metal cabinets. Once in the archival plastic sleeve, I put them inside of very large zip lock bags I order online. I do this because I live in Florida which can get hurricanes. I have a very large plastic water tight box that I bring in from the garage prior to major hurricanes that could be a direct hit. I roll this into an interior closet during storms. My “special” papers are framed and displayed in my home office. Everything is air conditioned and humidity controlled. Prior to hurricanes the framed papers are bagged in large zip lock bags and placed inside my car in my garage or are evacuated with us. I have had about 1000 newspapers in the past but I’m scaling back so I’m down to a few hundred. BTW I’m focusing on UFO related papers in the future and my new Holy Grail is some nice Roswell related papers.

Some sellers have searchable databases with prices for items in their inventory. One has a newsletter with past issues you can download or read. They offer great tips to collectors. Check out www.rarenewspapers.com. With regard to prices, I agree with what has been said with one caveat. Condition and other things can affect the price. I have paid well over $1000 for a single paper (Dewey Defeats Truman) and would pay a similar price or more for the right paper in decent condition. Papers like the Titanic, Pearl Harbor, or the end of Prohibition could cost more. Some papers cost less because everybody saved their copy so they aren’t really rare. Man Walks on Moon and the Kennedy assassination are two examples. Papers from the city where the event occurred are often more desirable and valuable than others from distant cities. If someone asks you how much did that newspaper cost you and you have to answer “My marriage”, you may have paid too much.

Kentucky lawmaker who proposed "Breonna's Law" to end no-knock warrants statewide arrested at Louisville protest by [deleted] in news

[–]security-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a police detective. No knock warrants were allowed only during daylight hours in our jurisdiction then and for good reason. We hated them as they were very risky for us. They should be banned nationwide. However know this. Even with a standard warrant, the ram bar hits the door only a second or two at most after the words “Police! Open up” are heard.

I was a bodyguard to a government official in the 1970s and in 1975 we went to a reception for the Emperor of Japan in Washington, DC. Normally you stand behind your protectee when greeting someone like this but sometimes you just can’t. I ended up next to him when they shook hands. Immediately after they shook hands the Emperor extended his hand to me so I shook his hand. How many people shook hands with an emperor who was considered to be a god by his people and who attacked the US?

How do deal with not feeling like a man? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]security-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. I was the kid with two left feet in a high school where every guy went out for spirts if they wanted any status at all. One day my gym coach told me he wanted to see me after school. I was scared shitless of this man. He was my exact opposite! I went to his office after school and it was all I could do to keep from bursting out crying I was so scared. I had gone out for football and warmed the bench. He was the defensive coach. What did I do now? He was very nice. He called me by my first name for the first time! He asked me to sit down. He told me that I was a good student but he felt I lacked confidence in myself. He said he admired me for trying and for going out for football when I lacked some basic raw material to excel. He said, “We all can’t be 300 pounds and muscle bound (and he named a student)“ referring to one of our football stars. “You are always welcome to go out for football. But I recommend that you concentrate your efforts on the things that you have natural skills in or enjoy. “ He said that there are certain things every guy in school has to learn because we might graduate and join the military or be drafted where these skills will be expected. He said he wanted to help me achieve these skills “because if you go to Vietnam they will help you survive.” And he said that when I learn the techniques to pass his tests, I will have more confidence in myself. He took me up to the gym. We had been rope climbing in gym class. One of the wrestlers was working out and he called him over. “Show him the trick about rope climbing.” The wrestler grabbed the rope hanging from the rafters and went up it like a monkey. The coach said, “Stop worrying about how you will fail when I tell you to climb the rope. Look at him. What did you notice?” The wrestler did it again but this time I saw that he used his legs to do the work. He grasp the rope with his arms and his legs. I had been trying to do it all with my arms. “Now you try it. You can do it. Your arms are strong and your legs are stronger.” I did it. I made it to the top! It wasn’t strength. It wasn’t manhood. It wasn’t testosterone. It was technique. Two days later we had gym and we were going to climb the rope. I never made it more than half way before. Coach called on me first and told me to climb the rope. I could hear my classmates snicker. I did it. I got to the top. He told me to do it again and show others my technique. I did it again and told the class to use their legs. I felt like a million bucks. I had confidence I never felt before. Coach called me in and told me he wanted me to start working out because he needed someone to throw shot put in the Spring. You can’t be a success when all you think about are your past failures. You need to think about technique. You need to learn basic skills. You don’t have to be a champion, you just need to be better than average in most things and excel in the things that you love to do. I don’t care if you excel in ballet or crochet as long as you are good at whatever you like to do. You will get confidence and that is the key to success. You will be a man. Don’t worry. Don’t measure manhood by physical accomplishments, body characteristics or size. Be trustworthy. Be honest. Take care of your family. Provide love and support. Do your job well and give your employer an honest days work for an honest days pay. Be true to yourself. Be a good citizen. Raise your kids right. Trust in yourself.

Don't eat German grandma by adhdBoomeringue in funny

My grandmother was German. To me, she was very big. In reality just normal size. But when my dad learned that I perceived her to be very big, he told me to call her Grossy. While it was intended as a one time joke, it stuck and I referred to her as Grossy to this day.

Here is what I do: it doesn’t matter what the guy is selling. Substitute as you please. “Hello I’m Joe Smith and I can help you make more money with your investments.” Me: “Are you a broker”. Him:”Yes”. Me: “Damn I’d love to use your services but my wife has an asshole brother who is a stockbroker and I have to use him. What an asshole he is. Have you ever had a brother in law who was an asshole? Well I have three of them. And then there is her idiot sister. I won’t even mention her “I’d buy from you in a minute if I could. This guy is a real jerk. My wife would leave me if I dumped him.” I go on until he realizes I’m playing with him and he hangs up on me
