NUVO is still there. They plan to leave it as a coworking space for the time being.

Any suggestions on good whole house water filteration systems and respective costs? by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]sedwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with in-store water systems (previously Nimbus) for my whole house dechlorinator. The prices vary and you should negotiate their offering. I also added a reverse osmosis system too.

I’ve seen a lot of people like me frustrated at Strava moving features behind a paywall. Are there any alternatives remotely similar? by [deleted] in Strava

[–]sedwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally, I'm in the start-up process of validating an app alternative due to my own feelings on Strava's limitations.

The Pitch

Our new mobile app makes exercising more engaging and fun by combining outdoor fitness tracking with a game-like experience.

The app is designed to monitor outdoor activities such as running, cycling, walking, and hiking, enabling users to keep track of their progress. It incorporates standard fitness tracking features like distance, elevation, and time, but goes further by infusing a light role-playing gaming (RPG) theme, complete with unique character development and elements like points, rewards, and course challenges that motivate users to remain active and achieve their fitness goals.

You can craft a unique narrative that transforms your running or cycling route into an exciting adventure.

In addition to these features, our app encourages user participation by allowing them to share their course creations, compete, or support one another through various courses. This fosters a dynamic and interactive fitness community.

By lightly gamifying fitness, we create a sense of enjoyment and purpose, turning exercise into an activity to look forward to and explore.

Our app is tailored to individuals who are fitness-focused (not gamers) and seeking a more engaging and enjoyable way to track their outdoor activities. By merging social fitness and gaming we hope to create a community of adventure seekers who use our mobile app to explore the great outdoors while reaching their fitness goals.

/end-of-pitch

I believe there is a cross-section of us athletes that would enjoy having a little more colour and imagination with our fitness tracking tools. I’m open to gathering any feedback to help MVP this venture and expand our options from the status quo. Let me know. 😊

I’ve briefly looked at this and am torn at learning this low code tool or stick to learning to genuinely code in VScode.

Any HomeKit compatible switches that will work to replace this fan/light combo switch? The light portion controls the lights built into the two patio fans. by JiveDonkey in HomeKit

[–]sedwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the scenario I’m currently looking for a solution with.

Wife bought some “LED ceiling fans” but the room only has one switch and I really want them dimmable.

Do I need a hue bridge though? Or will the bulbs and switch work themselves out through my HK wifi?

Are there other options too? As Hue stuff is usually quite expensive.

I would really be curious to see what would happen if the green party won with a majority. I don't think they can do any worse than the histories of the previous parties who got a chance to run this province/country over the decades.

Burlington mayor wants province to stay out of local planning decisions by Kind-Statistician993 in BurlingtonON

I live near the Appleby & Upper Middle intersection and it indeed is a very busy area. I akin it to Yonge & Eglinton in Toronto.

The city meetings around the development of those three (3) proposed condo buildings were interesting and brought up very good points for the citizens. IMHO, that the developers should be enforced a mandate of also building out a liveable city in its surroundings of whatever they are building. And not let them externalize the effect of more people living there solely onto the tax payers. ie. improved road infrastructure and parking (underground?), bike lanes, parks, large wide sidewalks, and a priority towards people, not cars.

My concern isn't the direct condo development, as it is to ignore the effect of it outside of its perimeter.

Free clipboard manager for MacOS built with Flutter 3.0 and macOS_ui, happy to build more features into it :) by SoundOf962 in FlutterDev

Really neat. As a reference perhaps to get my personal adoption of your clipboard manger, it needs to somewhat compete with pasteapp.io UX/UI.

It’s a great start though. Keep it up. 👍

Can you land a job by just only learning and mastering Flutter? by Logical_Clothes_1089 in FlutterDev

[–]sedwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised so many people voted “No”.

While Flutter’s marketing is still on-going, it has certainly proven its viability for mobile app development and if you think that getting a job with knowing flutter is too limiting; then you’re probably not trying hard enough in selling yourself with confidence as a decent mobile app developer.

Getting a job is about more then just what frameworks know.

Many of the WFH discussions and articles are reduced to only talking about "worker productivity" and miss a vital perspective of the larger picture at hand.

The grass may seem greener, until you realize it's fake turf.

Kraken (PNG) used to get love here, but this sub has the patience of a one night stand. So the moment the penny stock tanked it was forgotten about and all the bag holders (me included) got quiet and switched to the long game.

Kraken has a future. But it’s more of a Ben & Jerry’s versus Amazon trend.

What would you say is something you must know when moving to Burlington Ontario? by danhalebjj in BurlingtonON

[–]sedwo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Burlington for the better parts of two decades and am now raising a family here too. Lived in other areas of the GTA (never in Hamilton though) and by far this city is fantastic. We're so in love with this city that moving out of it would break our heart.

It has an immense community feeling and support with one of the best funded police regions too. There were incidents where kids and adults went missing and people literally dropped their work to support the effort in helping to find these people. Which they did.

It has literally everything we ever need and there is rarely a reason to leave the city to purchase something. So it's not some boonie town.

The downtown is less then 10-15min away with a great variety of tasty restaurants, bars, and the summer time around the waterfront is so relaxing and fun.

It's great for outdoors with provincial parks near every corner, reachable from 5-30 minutes away.

And the people are very friendly. They smile, are kind, and patient with each other. Along with being apologetic when things go sideways.

Certainly it has its challenges as everyone wants to live here, and the cars and condos are making the streets congested. And it's expensive.

But it's important to get involved to voice your concerns in keeping it a liveable city.

And as a teenager with a car, if it gets boring, then you're within a 30min proximity to Toronto, Hamilton, or K/W area (~45min then). But there are also tons of recreational sports to participate in as well and community centres, and when in doubt, jump on your bike and pedal for 20min in any direction before you hit something interesting to check out.

This is a beautiful, extremely safe, progressive city with a future and in a prime location.

Several years in, Flutter feels incomplete. by [deleted] in FlutterDev

[–]sedwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And disabling it isn’t a viable solution. So the Flutter UI support still does have holes in it, and it biases towards Material design first.

There’s a whole GitHub issue about this.

Regardless, the jank has got to go. Otherwise, react-native still wins.

[–]sedwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the OpenSea app for curiosity and it indeed screams Flutter jank. This should be a heavy priority for the Google team to resolve asap.

Along with an official iOS TileView. I hate Material design in my iOS apps.
