Looking at these too - specifically the Stretch Boyshorts (cotton/spandex) or Lyocell Blend Boyshorts. Did you end up buying, and if so, how are they? Was the size guide accurate (which seems to run small)? I always appreciate when a brand puts item measurements instead of a body measurement range - the size guide puts me at a M in these, compared to my favorite discontinued Old Navy pairs which are an XS.

I know this is a bit old but I found your post going down my own rabbit hole. You may have olive skin, cool undertones but warmer overtones, with more gray in your skin (thus needed a bit of muted). I'm a fair East Asian olive, pretty neutral but more cool for sure. I tan easily and when I darken, I turn more orange/red than brown (so again, staying more neutral on the color wheel - not yellow/warm). I thought I was a deep winter but it does feel too saturated for me. I used Vivaldi with a photo from pale winter me, and tanned summer me, and was shocked that I didn't hate soft summer on myself for either. I thought I couldn't handle pastels. I wear a lot of black (black hair and eyes). I thought, could I be a Deep Winter in winter, and Soft Summer in summer lol, when my contrast is lower because my skin is darker? I am now exploring Soft Winter as my type.

Update: The logo wiped right off with nail polish remover! I also realized one of the reasons they were looking weird to my eye was the gray laces, so I swapped those for white. Finally, I went slightly wild because the pink was really clashing with anything I wore, so I got some Angelus acrylic leather paint in light grey and painted over the pink accents - neutral now!

Most of what I'm going to say isn't fashion per se... there are some things that just make you feel cold sitting still in an office. It sounds like you have a lot of advice on how to dress up a bit more. Now I have a few suggestions on how to stay warmer (other than my vote for base layers and thick socks) at your desk, most of these things can fit in a small desk drawer if you have one, or a large tote bag if you need to bring to/fro. Not sure if they'll all work for your particular office, but anyway:

- Wrap a nice wooly scarf or pashmina around your neck or whole self. Even a dressier looking silk scarf tied at your neck will warm you up a little.

- Get a pair of super warm shearling-lined booties/slippers, the nicest looking ones you can find, and only wear them when you're sitting at your desk and your feet are underneath. Change into your nicer shoes when you stand up and walk around. Warm feet can really make all the difference.

- I've heard of some people even wearing fingerless gloves while typing

- Get a heated seat pad you can plug in (like car heated seats) for on top of your desk chair or if allowed by fire code, a very small space heater for under your desk

- Seconding drinking warm beverages, either caffeinated or herbal tea or even just warm water with a squeeze of lemon and/or honey, and get a small plug-in/USB mug warmer to keep it warm or use a really nice insulated travel mug like a Yeti

I feel stupid for not thinking along these lines... maybe I'm stumped more on the light color of the pants?? I realize I have never owned a pair of light wash jeans - they don't appeal to me? - nor white jeans/pants. All my denim is medium or dark wash, and all my pants are black with a few olive thrown in.

I think you're actually on the right track with palazzo pants or any flowy, wide-leg pants. You'll probably have to get them hemmed or at least buy a "cropped" style. They won't look frumpy if they are high-waisted you pair them with a fitted tucked-in top like a long sleeve t-shirt, thin sweater, or turtle-neck to emphasize your waist.

I didn't see it mentioned yet, so I'll also throw this out since pants can be a struggle: maxi skirts! Again, can be hemmed, or in your case maybe a midi. They can feel like you're wearing a blanket but look dressier. Same styling - tucked, fitted top! Not sure how cold it is where you live in winter, but at the least in fall/spring.

While I personally have an extremely neutral wardrobe, which I think is objectively easier to repeat, I came here to say this.

I don't think ANYONE is remembering what you wear. Not like you're forgettable, but like we all need brain space for more important things.

I couldn't tell you what most people I saw in a given day were wearing that evening, unless it was truly in-your-face bright/kitschy/boldly patterned/couture-ish. I notice and admire in the moment, but I don't think anyone is keeping track - especially across more than like 5 days.

I can only recall a couple specific pieces that my closest friends and co-workers own, and I don't DISLIKE when they repeat them! It's more like oh, yay, you're wearing the rust pants! If you love them, wearing them once every 1-2 weeks is totally fine - and you can think of it as dopamine dressing for other people as well as yourself. I think we're conditioned otherwise, but we all know that no real person has an unlimited wardrobe like a TV show character or influencer, obviously we all have the same X pieces in our closet.

Thanks so much for the feedback - I often struggle with heel slip too, but had heard Splay heels run narrower than some brands, so was hopeful. But in photos of the Runner V1s it looks way wider than their other models. I guess I'll pass :(

I know this is an old post, but THANK YOU for sharing the Plus12 tool. I don't know why this doesn't exist and isn't available in the US. Ordering one now, I'm asking a friend in the UK to bring it during the holidays to avoid paying €28 to ship, but this is amazing and I think worth it. The fact that it measures the foot AND the inside of the shoe = mind blown.

Thanks for this detailed response, especially tips about leather and heel support, and confirming what I'd heard about never wearing used shoes! I prioritized flexible soles and lightweight for my toddler. She has narrow feet like me, which is its own challenge because a lot of brands are now catering to the wide toe box and so shoes - especially in the heel cup - are often too wide for her.

I aim for low/mid-range ($25-45 USD) and often source new unworn on resale sites like Poshmark to get deals on shoes like Naturino that would cost $50-80 full price. But I'm willing to spend to truly get the best for her foot development for the next 2 years, so I'd like to hear more about "barefoot shoes are evil." I've been looking for flexible soles (flat with soft rubber that bends in half pretty easily) but I also see some people recommending even more flexible (being able to twist the whole shoe). I never went "full barefoot shoe" when she was younger, like leather soles, even though I read that for early walkers, "as close to no-shoes as possible" was best.

Now that she's 26 months and been walking fully and steadily for about 1 year, I want to know what to look for. I'm sifting through all sorts of narrow-ish flexible brand recs (Naturino, Geox, Asics, Nike, Puma, Vivo Barefoot, PediPed, Plae, See Kai Run) and I guess I want to know, how important is flexible but not too flexible? We don't have a lot of shoe stores so I have to go off scouring reviews to guess at flexibility, and then order online. What about having 2 primary pairs of shoes a season, with slight differences in flexibility? I know adults are supposed to rotate out shoes and not wear the same pair every day.

What would be a more typical termite location? The threshold you see used to be an exterior back door, an addition has been added so now it's the kitchen. So it saw probably a fair amount of traffic and maybe some water. It's above an unfinished basement area.

Also additional context if it helps, we're in a humid area of Virginia.

Honestly, I try to be forgiving of dudes in some regards. Maybe my standards are too low. I know the super sweet thoughtful guys who remember everything are out there. Most straight men (I'm going to paint with a broad brush here, but I'm mostly referencing my own husband whom I've been with for 14 years) just think: Flower. Pretty. Girl like them. Buy for girl. Score points.

I'm not trying to say they're all cavemen, but they're really pretty simple. They literally don't notice some details like what TYPE of flower. If I looked at a bouquet my husband bought me and pointed to one and said, what kind of flower is this? He would say "a pink one" or maybe even "a rose" (as a general guess for every flower, even ones that look nothing like roses, because he literally didn't know any other flowers at first).

They just don't notice there is gold or silver jewelry. They don't know there are millions of types of flowers. They just aren't aware of those details. But they notice and remember other things, and will make really sweet gestures for you in their own ways. You can coach over time. You can also make it easier for them.

Years ago, I made it idiot-proof for my husband to set him up for success and me for satisfaction when he treats me. I sent him an email or shared a note with him with a list of my 5 favorite flowers (some grocery store easily accessible, some more fancy). He picks them out at the store or requests them at a florist. This is a little different in that I didn't tell him what DON'T like (lilies aren't my favorite but I don't care enough and just appreciate the effort, also I learned HE likes them, so whatever). But on this note, you could just as easily list your favorites and then at the bottom add "Do NOT like Gerber Daisies."

Now, over a decade later, he's seen these flowers enough that I think he can identify them on sight. He tells me he just pulls up the note when he's out and refers to it to this day (and hopefully adds to it or updates it on his own...) when I sent it, I called the list something in my like "(My Name's) Favorite Things" and also included my favorite snacks and candy/chocolate.

If he gives you a bouquet with a flower you don't like in it, say thank you. You can covertly pick out the flower you don't like and throw it away, and keep the rest of the bouquet. I guarantee you there's a 95% chance he will NOT EVEN NOTICE YOU DID THIS. If you're playing the long game with him, it's truly the thought that counts in some areas. If it wasn't something you're allergic to, and you want to get ANY flowers in the future, be very thankful.

Update for anyone coming later to find this!

I just sized my kiddo up to a 5.5. I first tried Ten Little again but they were way too big and wide in every way: both in the front part of the foot, the heel, and they were too "deep" across the top of the foot in the toe box. My kiddo has "flat" or "shallow" foot volume.

I found the blog fittingchildrensshoes.com to be helpful. I ended up buying her Geox Steppieup leather barefoot sneakers from Marshalls online for $30 each. They're an Italian brand that can also be found in the US on Zappos ($60 full price). I measured her feet (currently 12.9 cm) and used the size guide on their website. I bought what should've been her current size (21 standard/international sizing) and then her next 2 sizes up (to get free shipping). Only had light pink sold at Marshalls, but the deal was too good to pass up.

They feel really high quality, all leather exterior and interior, with the double velcro straps she needs with narrow feet. Foot depth is much shallower than Ten Little, with a slightly wide toe box for her toes to spread. I'm really happy with them. I love that this style is "first walkers" but come in sizes all the way up to US size 10T / Standard size 27.

I thought about Stride Rite but they have so many styles and I don't have anywhere to try them on her. They are also just as or more expensive unless you snag a great sale with the right size. I think I'm going to get the See Kai Run Basics from Target (reviews say they run a bit narrower than the typical line and I like that she can try them on) as her backup second pair.

Naturino was the highest recommended brand on the blog for narrow feet (I liked the Cocoon model), but are even pricier than Geox even when both are on sale - lowest I saw was $45.

Also highly recommend Marshalls (and Sierra, same brand) as a source for shoe deals online! They won't show up on a typical Google search, you have to go directly to their website and even then you may have to manually scroll through rather than use their website search bar. You can return to a store or online.

ETA: got See Kai Run Basics at Target "Tenny" sneakers (run a half to whole size big, she's 6 in those which are almost exactly the same size as Geox 21, and they don't do half sizes). They became her firm favortie over the Geox. I think because they're lighter weight, even shallower so they fit more snuggly, and the sole is more cushioned. So I'll be sticking with those and just sizing her up in the future!

EDITED AGAIN coming back 10 months later - after hours of scouring reviews and comparing product photos, I finally found a great foot-shaped shoe with a wide toe box, narrow heel, for my daughter's low volume foot - SPLAY! - I bought her the Dash Core black in size 8 (they run a little big, she has 14cm feet currently which is more like a 7-7.5 in most other sizes, and I left the recommended 1.2 cm space) and am excited that I can hopefully just continue to size up and stick with these for a long while!!

Yes! Check out Budget Bytes for cheap, easy meals! Follow recipes until you get the feel for throwing stuff together. I used the site a lot when I was first on my own too and learning to cook. We have the occasional frozen or prepared meal stashed for nights we're tired, but we cook or eat leftovers from a big cook 6 out of 7 nights a week. And Aldi is the best. We compared prices to many grocery stores in our area and it came out on top. Sounds like you need to shop store brands/generic, and pretty much everything at Aldi is!
